gutted - Octy2 Vrs witten off - but hats off to Skoda!

Featured Replies

Yesterday was a very sad day - after finally sorting out a few problems on my car, two days later I decided to take her to the car wash.

What I didn't expect was a young idiot coming in the opposite direction in his brother-in-laws Porsche Turbo, showing off and loosing it in a big way. All I can remember was his rear wheels smoking and snaking from one side to another - on the 4th correction he kindly laid into me at 60 ish.....not nice.

While I'm absolutely gutted to loose my beloved car, no one was injured or killed.

As testomony to the Octavia, it stood up to this impact magnificently - thank you Skoda.

RIP dear Octy2 - we had a great 6 years - "sniff, sniff"!

Wow, on the upside at least your in one piece!

Just hope he was insured.....i See that it is a 20MPH zone too  . Should be locked up for that.

Good to see a Skoda paramedic car too

Ouch, that is indeed a sore one. Glad to see you made it out ok. Was the Porsche driver charged?

Glad to hear you are safe and well! RWD + COLD + IDIOT = accident waiting to happen

Hope the insurance pays out enough to get you back in to an octavia.

Glad your ok Sandy  Hope the other guys insurance sorts it and if not he can do it himself! Additionally I hope he gets the full wrath of the law for that. Had you not been in the "magnificent" Octy II could have been a long jail sentence for the idiot! Keep an eye on yourself for the next while and take it easy report any pains/stiffness's to your doctor so there is a record should you need to claim (but fingers crossed the Octy has absorbed it all)

Man, sorry to hear this, but very pleased you are ok!

Have to say that when a lorry took me off the A64 at 70 mph in a loan Octy estate, I was so impressed how it protected me that I bought our previous vRS!

really sorry to hear that mate, keep us updated!

Wow, that looks horrific. Glad you're ok

At least you came out uninjured..Wonder if the lad driving the porsche was even covered to drive that car..

Glad you made it out safely and good job you got pics to show insurers the plebs damage to your car. Sad for both cars though as I like them both.

Pleased to hear that you are ok and sorry to hear about the loss of your car, I cannot even begin to imagine how you feel. I hope the k n o b in the Porsche gets the book thrown at him!

Holy crap I'm looking at buying a used octavia, and I thought it needs to be safe for my little one in the back, I think thats one me over, really sorry about the car and crash though, as said hopefully the others drivers insurance pays for a new skoda for you!

Glad your ok.

I hope the law throughs the book at the **** in the porsche.

Wow, that is a serious smash.

Glad you were in a solid car and that everything is fine, apart from the damage to the car.

Delighted to hear that no-one sustained any serious injuries and delighted that you were in a car which protected you so well

As above, glad you are alright and that the **** in the Porsche gets what he deserves

Pics

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes, I really appreciate them.

Having a couple of days to think about this, it really was a close one. Another second or so either way and I wouldnt have been hit - fate eh?

I remember every millisecond of this incident, even from when he started lighting up his rear wheels 75 meters away (I've measured it on Google Earth). His foot didn't come off the gas at all, so we think he hit about 60 ish. I was probably doing 10-15 (just about to turn left), so for a 70mph head on, I dont think the Skoda did too badly at all. If you look at the pics (ive added some more) you'll see the whole cabin is intact - incredible really.

If he had started his final skid another 5 foot further on, he would have driven straight through my drivers door - that may have been a different story!

As others have said glad nobody was hurt. The side shot you have added shows just the Octy design has worked well & allowed the car to crumple to save you. Its good that these days we can survive what a few years ago could have been so much worse. Worth taking odvice on what else you can claim for, time off work, personal items loose in the car that might have been damaged & any personal strains etc

Glad you came out in one piece too.

I'll bet his brother won't be lending him much in the future other than bus-fare ;)

Glad you are ok matey! Shame about the car (perhaps now order a FL VRS?)... ;)

I got my mk1 after a mate had a 60-70mph head on/offside corner, it was only and Ambiente so no side airbags which meant the only injuries were bruises, cuts and a fractured rib - mainly due to the angle he got hit... The car was an absolute mess but all the doors opened and my mate, his missus and 2 kids walked away.

You've gotta love the safety standards of todays cars (even if it does make them a little heavier).

NB. Mythbusters has already proved you don't add the speeds of a head on collision, if both cars are doing 30, it's still a 30mph head on, not 60...

Glad everyone okay. Another reason to consider upgrading to the Octy vRS for me.

Mythbusters have managed to defy physics?

Edit: reading about it online now, interesting.

Glad your ok, the guy in the Porche would have head injuries from me if it had been my car, Dainott`s build thread shows the bars in the sills amazing crash protection. The moral of the story is wash yourself and not take to the car wash  ( runs and hides
