What would you miss about your Superb?

Featured Replies

As I'm now (hopefully) less than 24 hours away from getting my new Octavia, I've been thinking about what I'm going to miss and what I'm not going to miss about the Superb. What would you miss? What really annoys you?

Here's my list for starters....

I'll miss:

- The boarding lights in the mirrors. I live in the country where there's no street lighting, and they're amazingly useful. Luckily my new Octy has them too

- Sadly, I'll miss the cat-vision. Just adds an extra touch of quality to night time driving. Illuminated interior door handles are pretty, but I don't really see the point as, as soon as you switch off the lights and engine they go out! So they're illuminated when you don't want to open the doors (driving along), but not when you might want to (after parking up). Weird.

- I'll also miss the beautiful dashboard, Octy one isn't nearly as nice.

- It's such a relaxing place to be when you're driving.

- Incredible fuel economy and surprising power. I had an Octy vRS before the Superb, but I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I wished the Superb had more power

I won't miss:

- Weird steering and handling. I know you get used to it but even after 2 years I don't really feel that confident with the way the car handles

- Light cloth upholstery. Makes the cabin look more airy, but a total nightmare to try to keep clean

- Trying to park it in Sainsburys car park. It's so long you need special techniques (usually I aim at least one space further on than I want, then back up to try and get in line).

- Stiff boot lid. It's been done, but it's still not that great

- Stroppy gearbox early in the morning. Is it just mine, or does anybody else have real difficulty getting second gear on a cold morning?

So there we are - what does anyone else think?

OK, so mine isnt going, but what would I miss...

yes the down-mirror lighting and footwell lighting, the relaxed ride, the lack of aches and pains after a long cross country drive, the no-knees in the back problem, the ease of parking (love those rear sensors), and the general tranquility compared to the prviously owned Octy.

What I wouldnt miss, umm OK the ride isnt the sportiest but then I didnt buy a sports car, the worry of people bashing those huge rear doors with theirs in car parks.

Still, on balance the Superb wins :D

(no suprise there then.. ;) )

Mine is sometimes stroppy when cold, but ok when warm.

I'd miss the fabulous smooth engine, and the toys - there is so much to play with in there.

One thing thats immediately been a hit with me is the hooks for supermarket bags in the boot. You can do your shopping, then drive home like a lunatic, and when you get home, the stuff is still in the bags. That will save me 10 minutes a week!

I would miss the quietness and the ability to listen to either radio or CD at reasonable volume. For me the sound system too is one of the best manufacturer's installed set up in any car I have driven to date.

No, the sound system on the Superb is pathetic. The volume goes from inaudible to too loud in about 4 clicks, there's a total lack of bass, the stereo seperation is vague and worst of all, I've never seen any other system with such a stupid RDS system - when you listen to the radio with RDS on, you get constant sound dropouts, I've not seen this on any other manufacturer, my Superb and every Octavia I drove as a courtesy car suffered from it.

I've had a few cars with decent systems, a Ford Mondeo (L reg) - and both the Saab 9-5s I've had. The Superb has many good points, but the audio system is surely not one of them.

the benefits and drawbacks of lifting a VW Passart are many....

Dash is gorgeous in the superb, the extra space over my Passat is most welcome.

I find it unbelievable that even though they share same DNA, the Superb has a more comfortable seat and driving position!

Ride - haven't experienced it in depth, but let me guess - body roll. ALARMING BODY ROLL.

Cure: KW suspension..... currently saving to do that on the sly.

Audio - suprised they didn't just re-brand the GAMMA HU from the Passat - good bass for a stock system. Also adjusts itself based on speed. Rather useful when you put your foot down.

Where's this Superb of yours going to be? I might fancy a look if' it's a diesel.....
