Audi A1 Quattro

Featured Replies

According to Autocar, Audi are planning to build a 250bhp hardcore A1 to take on the Clio Cup, Fiesta ST, et al

Initially only 333 will be built in LHD only, there are no current plans to build RHD versions although that could change depending upon interest.

The A1 will use the 2.0 turbocharged engine from the S3 coupled to a Haldex-style four wheel drive system via six speed manual gearbox.

And what? Roughly £26-28k?

Spotted the Top Gear website post on this..... i like the look of it!

In saying that - the price tag will be enough to scare most away :giggle:

Not thinking of hanging out for one to replace the R36 then?

Am I the only one that hates these cars? They look awful and the price tag is horrendous!!

Audi timed their release to perfection though. Even those with big numbers in the bank are starting to look at their outgoings now. Something a little cheaper to run, with the quality they are used to and that all important Audi badge... no wonder I see loads on the road.

As for the Quattro I think it looks great, and will be a future classic if they keep the production run as low as they are saying. It also gives a fairly clear nod to an S1 or maybe even an RS1 in the future B)

I'd have one, (a) if they were cheaper, and (B) more reliable.

Looks like a slightly naff attempt to copy a 500 arbarth if you ask me

Ridiculous money and I don't care how fast it is. I'm betting some tuned vRS's in a few months time will be a match for it

I'll wait for the sensibly priced skoda version to replace the VRS then maybe buy one.

40K for an A1(POLO) someone at audi was smoking something when they thought that one up.

The polo R is supposed to be released 2013 for far less with the same 4 wheel drive system and a DSG for sub 30K. That's some expensive rings.

I expect the price will be around 40,000 Euros which since the Euro is likely to fall back to being worth 60 or 70 pence against GBP could mean some huge discounts on Audis etc.

Also the European Central Bank is giving away money for 3 year deals so 0% or super low funding for all VAG/Euro zone cars should be on the cards.

That's not that much money -you could spend £30K on a fiat 500 ferrari tributo -that WOULD be daft

Simple.

Yeti 170 4x4 and a trip to Shark!!

audi have completely lost the plot with the price of the a1. its ludicrously expensive for what it is, i very nearly bought one but changed my mind on cost grounds.. however it would be nice to see a 4x4 quattro version with just the normal bog standard 1.2 engine rather than a daft sports model

I bet they sell every one!

The VAG group are very clever at marketing and pitching different products to different sectors.

Whilst this doesn't seem good value to you (or me in fact), others will pay the premium for the brand and perceived exclusivity.

I certainly don't think they have lost the plot, just exploiting the 4 circles.

A yeti on coil overs :wonder: , Anyone done that Yet(i)?

Yes, well lowered springs, Skoda did that for the greenline......emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

and I think Merlinman has a slightly lowered Yeti CR170 with added whoosh.

Looks nice but a Polo R sounds more tempting.

Are you sure its the S3 engine? You'd have thought the 1.4 twincharger could get close to 250bhp with a little fettling.

Edit: Yep it seems you are right. Big lump in the front of a small car. That should make it handle like a proper Audi (ie those with a North-South engine hung out in front of the front wheels).

Nowhere near that price.

How Much!!! :o

I was basing my figure on Autocar's "much more than the current £21,000 1.4 TSI", but holy mother of god, how much!?

not even worth bothering with.

i think i would quite literally **** myself laughing at the idiot who bought one

Big heavy engine over the front wheels.

Wow that's going to steer like a pig.
