Well: I've just had a second variable service on my 56 plate Octy VRS which requires the cam belt to be changed, Skoda stated the water pump requires changing as well - but its only doen 16K. Why change the pump I asked, skoda recommend whilst changing the belt to change to pump, saves money if the pump goes at a later date, rubbish I said, a pump should never go if the coolant is changed on a regular basis - so if you change the pump are you going to replace the coolant - no was the reply only top it up this is only what skoda recommend - well the cam belt / pump were not change - save myself some money.

Service + belt & pump over £800.00

I am very pleased with my car and had no issues with it - but the costs of servicing and parts is stupid and on that I would not buy another Skoda vehicle again - back to Vauxhall for me, but there's nothing in the current range that I like, wished I had kept my 54 plate V6 Vectra GSI.

You are normally looking at anywhere between £250 and £450 depending on how much markup they put on the parts and what they charge for the labour. Worth ringing VW dealers as they sometimes have offers on that beat what an indie will do it for.

On a PD140 BKD I managed to get full genuine VAG cam belt and tensioner kit, plus water pump (with the metal impeller) for about £120 inc VAT and then it cost me £100 labour at a good indie for it all to be fitted, including genuine VAG coolant.

Dunno the price of cam belt. On another servicing note, I just signed up for 3 yrs Fixed Servicing at Trust Skoda Redditch, around £40 per month, this includes 3 major services (one due), 3 minor services, winder checks and MOTs. Considering the first service I got was over £300 I think this is a bargain and no worries about "oh god, how am I going to pay for this next service??"

Would recommend it though.

Got road noise on my vRS, but you will get that from low profile tyres. Also the ride is horrible on the M42 J3 to J4!!!! You'll have to try that some day, it's an experience

i just paid £280 for belt/waterpump etc to be done on my 2006 vrs at new place in cardiff,really happy with there service will be getting lower arms done on my golf gttdi in new year.civs on penarth rd if any of you guys are in cardiff wanting work done they are well worth a look

The skoda main dealer in darlington are doing the belt and water pump for £375 inc vat DEAL OF THE YEAR . so thought id get her done as main dealer in ashford wanted £750

mate there is no proof in log book or receipt to show thats its been done and nows she has done 75k and over 4 years old just playing it safe mate carnt afford for it to snap lol

If you look at your 3rd service it has the toothed belt bit ticked. The receipt is in there too (or it was when I traded it in)

It's up to you but if you ring Mitchell Skoda in Cheshire they can confirm the belt and pump were changed by them.

I paid £399 at Leeds Skoda 2 weeks ago including water pump and new coolant. They priced matched another garage.

£320 for me at an indy for cambelt and water pump on my VRS. Reason for changing the pump is that the OEM had a plastic impeller which can break off. Changing the pump is as big a job as changing the belt and the pump itself isn't that dear so it's worth doing at the same time as a precaution.

I paid £316 all in with genuine VAG parts (presumably from TPS) for my TFSI from the local Indy VAG specialist. Wife's 1.9 TDI was £290 at the same place for the same job

We skipped the £200 for a new alarm though, and fitted our own.

Paid about £300 for my wife's leon's (pd140) cam belt change (genuine parts used) at DSB autocare in Bulwell. Anyone around the Nottingham area would be well recommended to go to see Dave - ex Skoda mechanic, now independent.

Mine is overdue as it's now 4.5 years old and 45000 miles. Just requested a quote from my local VW dealer, I'll post it here when I get it. Some VW dealers were offering it for £350 not long ago, which is reasonable as the local VAG specialist has it on their website for £389 for a 2TFSI.

VW will do it as part of their fixed price servicing for £399 all in - I think it's £319 if you don't have the pump done at the same time. This is for cars over 4 (or maybe 3) years old I think.

Four years or 40K miles (variable service) or which ever comes first. Mine is 4 yrs old and only has 16K - Skoda are not doing mine - private garage for me.

I had the water pump replaced when the cambelt was changed on my 2002 Octavia 1.8T 4X4 at the 4 and 8 year intervals, and also on my wife's Fabia vRS at 4 years. My thread below explains why.

Hi Had mine done a few months ago on a 1.9 Diesel octavia at main dealers. For cam belt, tensioners and pump with air con service i paid £334, initially they was going to charge more but cam down on price. Goodluck

Thanks guys for all the feedback, I'm looking at using a recommended independent VW specialist who has quoted approx £100 labour plus parts.... says water pump should not need changed, also says full cam kit not required only part.

Sounds like he's just planning to change the belt and not the rollers/tensioners.

If you are doing the job then do it properly and fit the full cambelt kit.
