Skoda Superb Gear shift paddles - retrofit?

Featured Replies

Guys,

As per my CD changer post, a colleage has a 2010 Skoda Superb estate with a DSG gearbox. The current models have paddles, is there any form of retrofit for his model?

Thanks

Paddles are always in option and always with the 3 spoke wheels. There are rumours that it might be possible with replacing the whole steering wheel if you have the multifunction 4 spoke wheel.

I've heard that lots of other people have done it. Either get a 3 spoke wheel and have it coded at the dealer, or find someone with vcds near you

That sounds like a bargain.

Just been on the skoda configurator, and its £375 for the 3 spoke dsg wheel. It does also mention a 'small leather package'. Any ideas on what that includes?

"Small leather" is the steering wheel, handbrake and gearshift gaiter in leather (or psuedo leather).

It shouldn't be that hard. Here is a like for someone who did it on a Tiguan. You need a 3 Spoke steering wheel with paddles,a new airbag(if you have the 4-Spoke steering wheel fitted now),plus a few wires and connectors.

So far I haven't found antone who has actually done it and most responses say it can't be done.

It can be done on a Yeti, so I can't see any reason why the Superb would be any different.

As posted above, shark tuning offer it as a service, so it can be done. So you need to find a Tuner in Australia or phone/email shark to see if they'll let you know how they do it so you can get it done locally.

Of course it can be done, anything can be if you have money :giggle: The problem is how you wire them, you need to find the schematics,or maybe you're lucky and is "almost" plug&play.

Ok, I've contacted them so I'll wait and see what the answer is.

Search for the user Dekagon on here.

He has done it himself using VCDS.

My understanding is that the airbag from the 4 spoke fits the 3 spoke wheel.

I keep toying with the idea of doing it myself.

It can be done on a Yeti, so I can't see any reason why the Superb would be any different.

There are several people who have followed my lead and retrofitted a flappy paddle MFSW to their Yeti , both 1.2tsi DSG and like my CR140 DSG.

Very simple job once you have the steering wheel.

The air bag from my MY 2011 4 spoke MFSW fitted a vRS 3 spoke flappy paddle MFSW. Straight swap. You do need to know what you are doing though.

I let Ben at Shark Performance fit mine. Took about 30 minutes, and the longest part was getting the MFSW on in the right position. Next longest thing was the VCDS scan of the car. Programming the buttons was a doddle, but performed by Ben so I have no idea where to look in the software.

Recommended.

There are several threads in the Yeti section on this. Check out my project in the link in my signature.

I have received this reply from Shark Performance:

Hi X

You need to replace the steering wheel, airbag wiring loom and recode the steering wheel control module to suit. If the car doesn't already have a multi function wheel then you will need to change the steering wheel control module also.

Regards

Ben

Simple job. 30 minutes work and access to VAGCOM.

What about having the MF-4-spoke wheel as a precondition?

I Have Just had a 3 spoke MFSW fitted by Shark yesterday 3rd Jan 2012 , I had a 4 spoke before

I bought the wheel from Skodateile , Rob at Shark took about 30 mins to do the swap its quite simple

to do really and my original airbag and wiring was used, I love having the the DSG Paddles

I also had a Stage 1 tune and before and after Rolling road, oh and had the anoying seatbelt warning turned off

I will post some pics later, Great job by Shark and I highly recomend them.

I also had my 4 spoke MFSW changed with the 3 spoke MFSW with shift paddles.

The airbag and the airbag cover fits from the 4 spoke wheel.

It took about 15 minutes including coding.

Hi,

I see you can buy the 3 spoke wheel from Skodateile for about 140 euro. How much did they charge for fitting? I've been quoted around £300 to replace my 4 spoke with a 3 spoke (Skoda Superb II) all in. Wasnt sure it might be cheaper to import my own wheel as you have done. Any feedback appreciated.

thanks

Adam if you import your own wheel and there is something wrong with it when it comes to fitting it will cost you more . the £300 is a very good price dont be tight and have the wheel fitted you wont be sorry.

Do you have DSG?

If not then it is a very easy and straightforward change.
