  • We have gone from this:   To this:   To this!!!       A Race Blue Yeti!   I need to get the Annapurnas on I think to complete the change.

That was an interesting watch - shame it cut off when it did though - the black Octy at the end seemed to be the only one with a proper turn of speed to it. :) The Yeti looks very nicely balanced throughout - suspension and brakes seem to be spot on. :)

Would have been nice to do another lap if the flag hadn't been waved.

I believe the Octy was quicker on the straights but I was making up ground in the corners. :D

Always makes trying to overtake interesting.

PB Brakes 6 pot!

No, that's my car.

I don't think Mark runs them too.

I think Mark runs Tarox front stoppers

Sorry thought he was asking you :wall:

I've got 6pot TAR-OX 323mm brakes ;-)

They have enough power to lock up the track tyres from 40-140mph ;-)

I was asking since it looked to me on that vid that Richard was catching up in breaking zones.

I was easy on the brakes because I boiled the fluid in April and lost the brake pedal...didn't want it to happen again!

Bit of a brown pants moment!

did you get hold of your spoiler? People were looking for you to hand it over/ let you know where it was :)

believe me, Richard can brake a lot later so it appears that way :)

Yeah got it mate thanks ;-)

  • 4 weeks later...

Having read about XDS in a recent thread in the Yeti forum, I wondered if that's something that you have investigated on yours ?

Wondered if it's of any benefit on track.

Sounds like not all Yetis support it, depends on ABS controller I think.

I didn't think the Yei supported that, but I could be wrong.

I am currently looking into Audi S3 hubs to see if it's viable.

Would save around 1.4kg per front corner, right where you want to save a bit of weight.

It is on some models, Wavey Davey knows a lot about it, in the top VCDS mods thread (yeti section)

XDS on 2WD models. pointless on 4WD models ;)

I was thinking that, but whilst googling round for info on XDS, I saw various articles suggesting some new 4wd VAG models have XDS....

EDIT: Passat Alltrack and Golf Alltrack reportedly have XDS.

Why is that Dave?

In other news, I think I've killed at least one of my wheel bearings with all the track days.

So while the wheels are off I figure it's time to upgrade to Audi S3/Audi TT alloy hubs on the front...

Was going to do it when convenient.  Looks like sooner rather than later is a good idea!

Are they a straight swap on the Yeti?

Why is that Dave?

I don't actually know, but I'm using common sense, the system was designed as an electronic diff for FWD cars, braking the spinning wheel to send the power to the other wheel...

doesn't the VAG 4WD system already sent power to the wheel that has the most grip? designed previous to XDS? (4motion) using the ABS sensors, and electronics rather than braking wheels? this would make XDS pointless surely?

thats just how I understood they worked.... I'm only using common sense though, I have not got the technical knowledge to back up my claims! lol...

Actually XDS doesn't brake the spinning wheel because it doesn't wait for spinning before working, it slows the rotational speed of the inside wheel in bends, which has two benefits.

Firstly, it does stop it spinning.  But it also pulls the car tighter into the corner, meaning it should be able to corner at a higher speed than without the system.

If I can enable it on the Yeti it should lead to a slight improvement in cornering speeds.

Which would be quite impressive as it's seriously quick in the corners already!

Apparently so, all the parts for the Audi TT-S/TT-RS are a direct swap.

The parts we ordered today.

I could do with getting it done in under two weeks as I'll be back at Silverstone again and if it's raining I'll probably take the Yeti instead of the Skyline.

makes sense as the inside wheel moves a shorter distance.

let us know how it goes... I still believe you will find it not there.... why brake something, when moving power to the back is still "driving" and not "braking" ... and the 4WD does that anyway..... I still believe its a 2WD tool..... (until someone proves me wrong ;) )

It's Britain, you'll be taking the Yeti
