vRS Dark Chrome alloys corroding

Featured Replies

My front nearside is corroding (also the rear offside but very minor) - both these wheels have one small kerb mark each (the front one was on the car when I got it) - am I right in saying they'll knock you back if there's any kerb marks (even if not close to the corrosion?). I'm going to go in on my next day off and chance my arm anyway - they can only say no. If they do, then I'll just pay for refurbishment myself (not the end of the world).

Is there anything you can use to protect them? I've unfortunately got some kerbing marks, and don't want mine to do this!

My wheels guy instructed me not to use dark painted wheels during winter as the color would peel off.. The cause of that is salt that is used to melt the snow, at least here in Sweden. It only takes a small stone chip or insufficient paint on the wheels to commence the peeling/corrosion.

There are apparently dark painted wheels that are winter spec but cost a lot of money and thus not worth for 6months use only.

And I don't think that the skoda 17" wheels are winter spec...

As above, one or the wife's Vrs wheels is doing exactly the same thing. Warranty jobbie I think, in about 18 months. The car will be 2 1/2 years old then

Visited the dealer yesterday and 2 weeks on order. To be replaced under warranty. If you think your wheels need replacing go and see your dealer so they can have a look. If you leave it to long and the wheels get really corroded Skoda will not change them.

Mine are to be replaced, but not yet.

Can you guys by any chance post a pic so as to see to what extent is that corrosion of yours? I have not seen anything suspicious on mine yet, just being pro-active....

Mine was as small as 5p piece on the two rear alloys and they changed them. 3 days from going in to getting two new ones...

I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and pay for the refurb myself - can't see me getting anywhere with a warranty claim - all part and parcel of car ownership emoticon-0106-crying.gif .

Surely that's not economical? If I remember correctly you can pick up spare alloys directly from the Skoda website for about £110 each. To me that's very reasonable.

EDIT: Sorry, £136, here.

They send them back off to Skoda UK for investigation apparently, not all batches do it. Heard that it's particularly bad on Octavia Scout model wheels.

Welcome to a world of pain lads, the polished alloys on the Octavia Scout have been rotting since 2007.

I'm on my second full set but out of warranty now.

Plenty of unpleasant pictures here:

It is also worth noting that the alloys that they use as warranty relacements are refurbed returns!

Cheers - that's a good shout actually. I've got a 10% discount card for the dealer I bought the car from.

This is why I avoid diamond cut wheels like the plague they only look good in the show room as soon as you take them out on the road they start to fall apart. Having said that though I've had my two white alloys replaced under warranty on my fabia as they where starting to go yellow round the centre caps.

One of mine have started doing this, should I seek replacement?

I would if I was you

Yet another Dark Chrome Gigaro replaced today with a shiny new one,

and this was a Warranty Replaced one being replaced because it also had White Spider within 12 months.

Anyone with this showing are as well to get the Wheels replaced before the car is out of Warranty.

Even if a little Damage but not near the obvious White Spider, do not let the Dealership pan you off,

get the pictures taken and off to Skoda or insist the Warranty Man that visits Dealership for various sees your wheels.

It might mean you need to call in while he is there on a visit.
