Brake Caliper Covers

Featured Replies

Hello all.

It's time to paint my calipers again and tbh I'm getting fed up of it. To keep them looking new, I'm having to re-do them every 3 - 6 months (depending on how much I use the car).

So my question is, has anyone ever used brake caliper COVERS before?

Example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3D-Brembo-Look-Brake-Caliper-Cover-Front-Rear-Yellow-/260805386445?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb93660cd

Would these actually fit and would they stay on? I'm worried that the heat from the brakes would melt the glue :wonder:

Cheers - T

1st off, do you have 1" ....or is it 2CM clearance??....................... WTF since when has 1" been 2 CM??

2nd point and the most important one ...........REALLY?? :dull:

1) Alright, 1 inch = 2.5cm, but I'm not going to worry about that too much.

2) YES, really. I'm fed up of painting... and the paint isn't exactly cheap either!

Must admitt certainly from the pictures they actually look okay eh ??!! at that price would certainly be worth a try !! main thing would be deciding what colour to go for ??!!

Balls... I've just realised I've posted this in the MKII section...

Oh well :drunk:

I'm deffo thinking yellow for mine, because my rims have yellow in them:

At the end of the day, it's not a massive expense. I'd rather have REAL Brembo brakes fitted, but atm that's a bit costly :p

I've researched the glue used and apparently it can withstand high temperatures. Only one way to find out I suppose...

Nowt to loose at that price, even if they get fithy, chuck away and start again, no vRS green though

Have you tried Hammerite as that usually works well?

The best thing would be to get them powder coated but that would mean taking the car off the road.

I would be concerned at them coming off at high speed tbh...... :o

Out of interest, how often do you clean the wheels? I will get a detailing brush on the calipers everytime I wash the car, so the brake dust doesn't get a chance to bite.

Is thread for real? Painting your brake calipers every 3 months?! WTF? What are you painting them with? Crayola? A coat of hammerite and they'll be fine - quick wash off with soapy water.

As for putting plastic fake calipers glued over the top... :o

I really think you should learn to express your opinions Rob, come out of that shell FFS!!

Kinda thought this thread would go this way !! to be honest having sifted thru some off this sellers negative feedbacks it would appear there are a few who are not happy with these covers and I get the impression they actually look better in the pictures than in real life !!

As already mentioned I know a lot off folk swear by using Hamerite and have not had to repaint even after several years. I bought a small pot off paint from an ebay seller once, came with brush, sandpaper and even a pair off throw away gloves !! at under a tenner it looked great for the several years it was on my old car and if I remember correctly he did most colours ? will see if I can find the advert for you and post back if so.

Sorry. I'm having one of those days..

OP - its your car so do what you think is best, ignore me!

;)

Hammerite i have used the red on my van done 3 coats over 1 weekend on all calipers and to this day it has still stayed red not faded or that, also agree about giving them a clean when cleaning wheels.

I use Hammerite, smooth green, but discontinued now, and some are not as anal about cleaning as us, Me recently ,mini detail twice and driven zero miles :giggle:

Guys can we have some sanity here - plastic fake Brembo covers are about as naff as it gets!

This ranks right up there with clamp on exhaust whistles, coloured headlight film, blue led washer covers, sunstrips with names on, those sticker "lists" that you see down the doors of Clio's and Corsas which say "Brembo," "HKS" "Sparco" etc. Lets also not forget yalloy antennas, chrome mirror covers and fake alloy checker plate mats! You get my drift!!!

Get some decent paint on them and forget about sticking on bits of plastic. Foliatech them if you must (it actually works quite well) or use Hammertite as Grizzle or BlueVRS2 suggest but powder coating is best.

I need a lie down now! as I've gone all faint!

PS - I actually contacted eBay to complain about a seller of these things who suggested they were attached with self tapping screws into the body of the caliper!

i just looked at the ebay ad - holy ****! big gobs of silicone sealant all over the brake caliper>!?! er.. that's not going to do it any good at all, and what about cooling? or changing the pad?!

its also a blatant trade mark infringement.

its hard to put into words how much i dislike this product.

How about:-

What even if they were to come in gold! Lol

Gold's out for calipers - they'd clash with the wheels

Dont buy the covers, they have been discussed on here before and some pictures were posted where they had come off. I cannot find the thread at the moment as it was quiet some time ago. Brembo were also very interested in the copyright theft and having their name on cheap chinese components and at the time had quiet a lot pulled from ebay. However looks like they are back once again.

The chinese copy whole cars, I cannot think Brembo have the slightest chance to stop them . Only had a proper look at the details, did not realise they were glued on :S

LOL - my post was quite tame!

I quite like them. In fact I like them that much going to buy some and put them on Falkster's car when he's not looking
