Hello everyone!

As this is my first post I would like to say: greetings form Poland! I've been reading Briskoda for some time now a I have to say: what an amazing forum! It's like a skoda-pedia for me :) Learned a lot and still do, thank you!

Now, as I'm about to become a proud owner of new green Fabia vRS, I'm faced with dilemma and I hope you guys can help.

Because roads in Poland are rather terrible, I'm considering swapping default Gigaro 17” wheels for.... well, for 15” alloys (Ronal R51 Graphite to be exact) + Toyo Proxes 195/55/ R15.

That way I'll be able to sell Gigaros as undamaged and have a decent ride comfort on fifteens.

I was thinking of 16” but that would only give me about 10mm (~0,4 inch) thicker sidewall. 15” with 195/55 are 25mm (~1,0 inch) thicker, so I'm thinking - a lot more.

Will I sacrifice to much performance and grip?

vRS will be used as everyday car. No track days, I suppose :)

What's your opinion?

Thanks in advance!

Hello there,

Visited Poland a few times, great place :)

Anyway, the grip you with the tyres you have specified should not be greatly reduced. I wouldn't say you would notice much of a difference.

However, you have bought a vRS, presumably for its sporty looks - 15" wheels will completely ruin the sporty look, the alloys really make the look of this car.

16" wheels will greatly improve ride quality without compromising looks too much.

The slip angle and tyre roll will be pants for grip and handling.

If you go for 16 i think the balance will be just right you may even find it better as it will tramline less and be less bumpy.

That would be my choice

I was afraid you're going to advise this :)

I'm more worried about ruining the handling with 15", looks aren’t so important (I'm even thinking about taking vRS badge off, not to drive to much attention.... no I wouldn't do THAT! :))

Anyway, will have to make a decision soon... 3 weeks to go!

Can't wait!

Thanks guys!

I have 15' Steel Wheels for winter.

The ride becomes much smoother, but it is less direct and rolls about a bit more. Can't really comment on grip as they are winter tyres so not for use on tracks.

Thought of one more option:

to go with 7x16" rim with 215/45 R16 tire for summer and 195/50 R16 for winter.

That way i'll increase comfort, maintain decent traction and hopefuly not ruin the looks completely. Plus only one set of alloys to buy, at least until I'll be able to sell Gigaros.

My only doubt is that those tire sizes are not OEM. Still only 0.7% and 1.0% difference in size compared to gigaros.

I know it's a compromise but maybe worth considering?
