Problem ?

Featured Replies

I'm sure it's Mis firing under acceleration around 80. It just feels like engine gives up then comes back gives up then comes back.

If that was a misfire, and it was really knocking power back id have expected to see the EML flashing on the dash for a fair few seconds.

It felt like my BMW did when the injector coil went, ok under normal load then anything building up it would do it. This seams to be a intermittent problem but hasn't prompted a warning light. But sayin that someone on on this forum has talked about something similar

Yea not greatly knocking back power but very slight, grrrr! Hope RAC figure it out as Its getting recovered. Don't feel right to drive home so thought that was best

Ok couldn't find anything, got told that it felt like the gear box? So reset the box and tried that. But no surprise the car still does it. On further investigation it only seams to happen around 4000rpm in 6th gear, so I am bewildered at this. It's certainly not right though

one thing not mentioned... it could be something like the cardboards undertray not fitted correctley, this would "flap" at speed, and could cause the noise?

Ok so driving home its becoming apparent that the problem is bigger than i first thought. on the A roads at low speeds 6th gear going through the revs nicely this clunking will happen. I have managed to capture it via iphone camera on the way home (passenger was operating camera) i'm going to upload the two clearest videos of the sound managed to get on a phone microphone

have a look and see what you all think, its back in tomorrow anyway to get this problem seen too. 6th gear only non related to revs, just load in 6th. All other gears are fine!

thats definatley just under throttle, so has to be to do with the drivetrain.... get it in ASAP.....

Oh poo that's does not sound good as snarky said get it in ASAP

Going in tomorrow, have monday and tuesday off work luckily. I can honestly see new gearbox going in that if its the 6th gear thats kaput! getting progressively worse as i drove home from manchester. Cant fault Skoda assist though, they did a good job after decided it was getting bad on the motorway and pulled in. Couldn't help us though but he did try!

Ok just a update for everyone. Car was seen to again today by a Skoda tech (via Skoda assist) took the car out again in 6th gear got the mechanical noise. Booked me in ASAP at the local Skoda repair centre (which was nearer than I first thought) so Skoda assist organised a hire car for me to pick up on car drop off. Took out the repair tech who would assess the car prior to repair to demonstrate problem. After he got a good feel for the problem he came to the conclusion something has gone wrong inside the actual dsg box. So vrs now in vw hadwins for repair and I'm driving a vauxhall meriva for the time being. Upset to say the least but thank god for warranty, shame something like this has happened only at 1000 miles but better breaking now rather than 3 years down the line.

The problems with this dsg system in the skoda seems to be growing, I am well known to knock the system but it seems highly likely there is a problem with the build quality?, how were these engines/ gearboxes in the VW , or are these vrs all Friday afternoon cars ?

I was also concerned by the number of problems, and not just with the gearbox, but misfiring oil use ect, thats why I started my "problems or no problems" thread, to see what sort of percentages we we looking at... and the overwhelming number of owners have no problems.... we just hear alot more (being the nature of forums) about the problems!

to OP: hope it all turns out ok! keep us updated

I have a work vehicle so mine is my weekend car, disappointed at it for breaking so soon. But saying that can't fault the level of service I have received and they have given me the greatest confidence that the problem will be put right. Other than that the car is great, I get a decent (Considering its a high output small engine) 45mpg on most trips. It's a shame I know but it's a relatively new system so is bound to have teething problems. I think that dsg is defienetely here to stay...

I will be defienetely sticking with it! :-)

Update : Skoda assist replacement vehicles rang me today to make sure I am ok with the car they provided less than 24 hours ago. They also liased with the repair centre in question and got back to me promptly to provide an update on my car. Car is still in the diagnostic stage and garage are in close communication with Skoda repair whilst fault finding. Hopefully tomorrow parts will be ordered and can expect an update tomorrow noon on what is being replaced and a time scale.

I'd suspect your 6th gear has possibly droped a tooth. Happens every so often in any gearbox though it's rare these days as any flaws are usualy picked up during all the inspection process.

If its dropped a tooth could this damage more of the internals ?

I hope not, but I hope they replace anything else that could possibly be damaged by this fault

Seen that happend on a few engines at work and its shredded the rest of the transmision

Hurl..... Dam I nearly dropped my cup of tea! Oh well, got in touch with my friend who works at the repair centre it's at. He thinks he's heard new gearbox is on the list so far.

From what iv heard it would be easier to replace the whole gear box rather than replace a gear in the dsg boxs there ment to be a nightmare to work with.

However if its just sixth gear it could just be a worn tooth and you caught it just intime before its broke

I'd suspect they are having difficulty diagnosing it being unable to open the box.

What would other wise be a 5 min job of open box inspect gear answer is no longer an option, yet.

Though I'm sure other options will come along such as uprated clutch packs etc, eventually.
