  • Good luck with your new wheels. Not sure they are 'way way better', but agree 'way way more expensive'!

  • It's odd as I do far far far less rattle jobs as a Skoda tech than I ever did working on VWs. However that could be down to more VWs out there, higher expectations for customers maybe?

  • Techie I loved the skoda but it's not a patch on the golf 8k more but you do notice it, and far more stuff than standard my fabia and most of my previous skodas rattled and creaked but this golf felt

Just back from a test drive and so better drive IMO, I've been with skodas for over 30 years and had enough of the rattles and terrible customer services, I have the same engine in the golf but you cannot hear a thing so more comfy ? It's crazy, chalk n cheese don't get me wrong I love skodas but enough is enough, I've always though same car less money how wrong was I

Techie I loved the skoda but it's not a patch on the golf 8k more but you do notice it, and far more stuff than standard my fabia and most of my previous skodas rattled and creaked but this golf felt more refined and better built, not slagging the skoda to be fair it's less expensive to buy, but I'm glad I've jumped

Good luck with the car

and terrible customer services

With you on this one! Not sure VW are any better though.

Good luck with your VW Golf, You've made some amusing, intelligent and informative contributions to these forums ;)

Aye like a bit of a banter ;) but still visit from time time lol

Seb, best of luck with the Golf, i hope you enjoy it and get better service than you seemed to have received from your local Skoda dealer.

Good look with the car hope you enjoy it. I've enjoyed your banter on here hope you keep calling in oh and post some pics up and a review when you get her.

Defo pics will be up , I prefer the look of the fabia to be honest but the quality

i hope you're not comparing a fabia with a golf, something similar price would be a fairer comparison.

I done the opposite vw to skoda

Your spot on with the vw driving much better my polo was in a diffrent class driving wise to the fabia, it just wasnt powerful enough for my liking :(

Mo but build quality is build quality , although the polo was similar

All the very best with your VW. Without doubt, they're better built than Skodas (I had a 2011 Golf GTDi 170 DSG for 2 months) and it was absolutely awesome in every respect. The very reason that I decided to get DSG.

Never know, may be joining you soon.

All the best with the new Golf. It is the same customer sevices format, called them a lot when I was a VW owner, that was in the days of th MkIV, i hear from friends in the trade that the new Golf is really good. My Passat B6 was rattle free.

Goodbye

Oh shame to see you go. Enjoy the new car - sounds great :)

On another note my dad had a bluemotion golf and it blew 2 engine twice in 600miles from new..... Read from that what you will

Don't get me wrong I loved the fabia just a spur of the moment and sold them both lol

I hear what you are saying about the build quality, we went looking for a replacement car for SWMBO on Friday, the short list was a TT, Fabia vRS or Elegance, Polo, Scirocco and a MK6 Golf GTD.

1st car we saw (but could not test drive) was a TT, SWMBO loved the look and interior of the car, this car was next door to a Skoda dealer so we popped in and test drove a 1.2 Elegance Fabia, spec looked good on paper but the drive was less than inspiring.

Next up was a Fabia vRS, which drove nice, quick (if a harsh engine IMO) 7 speed DSG was MUCH better than the Superb one I drove just over 18 months ago, SWMBO was REALLY tempted to have one.

Onto the VW dealer, the Polo was ruled out as the largest diesel engine was (IIRC 90BHP) and SWMBO has a couple of steep long hills to contend with on her commute from work, so that was ruled out.

We looked at the Scirocco (I personally do not like the rear end on them) and when SWMBO saw one close up she came to the same conclusion.

Then there was a 7 month old Golf GTD that she loved - and wanted....... for a while!

Finally we went to the Audi dealership who had several TT's in stock, but only one TDi, which we both test drove, to quote the advert.... 'it drives just like a Golf' .... but you can actually see more of the bonnet than in a Golf.

SWMBO was REALLY upset when we left without buying the car (think 'stroppy teenager' :giggle: ) but the spec was not quite right (no adjustable lumbar support on the seats - 99% of TT's appear to be either ordered completely std or with very few options)

I have since found another and have seen lots of high res. photo's - enough to put a deposit on it (it is nearly 300 miles away!!) on the understanding that if it is not 'as described' then this will be returned ... albeit with a well pi##ed off 'Gizmo'

Now now ! I have been with skoda 30 years and I've earned my time away from them, it's the same engine as the fabia although a little more refined lol, standard spec is awesome in the golf and I got a bargain, 2 years servicing and gap as well , full tank of fuel and taxed till November, and 3 1/2 k off the list price win win I think
