2003 Mk1 Xenon headlights on ebay (O.E)

Featured Replies

Just a heads up, i was looking at these on fleabay but it stinks of fraud. They are on for £300 buy it now. I offered the guy £200- he accepted straight away but wanted payment outside of ebay rules (no paypal cover should they never arrive in the post)

He also only has '1' feedback.

Just wanted to warn fellow potential buyers- ok it may be genuine but i doubt it.

if you pay by paypal, as an item bought, you do still have cover.

Doesnt really stink of fraud...you gave him a low offer, he doesnt want to lose any more money to ebay as final value is at least 10% of what he gets.

I say the same to people when they try to buy items at a much lower price than i am listing at, if i want to sell the item quickly. Have bought and sold loads of bits outside of ebay without issue.

I want these in my life(car) now!!!!

BTW, If it goes through paypal you are safe. I have known people to go through paypal, wait for the item to turn up then put in a complaint and get their money back as well as have the item.

So in essence hes screwing himself more than you.

Will the original wiring harness attach to them?

As above

Well i just bought them (via ebay)

So do i need a loom to connect to oem harness??

afaik they don't retrofit unless your car has factory loom

you also need level sensor and headlight washers or you'll fail MOT

Pish about the level sensors and washers

Only req IF fitted....

Sure i saw a loom adaptor?

Any1?

Hi mate, not wanting to start a slinging match, just not wanting you disappointed at MOT time

if you doubt this ask your local tester

not sure about loom adaptors, think i read the xenons have a 4 pin connector but standard halogen one is 3 pin - not sure what the extra connector is used for.

Yeah i know the new rules, pretty sure the wording says 'if fitted'

I have had a car passed with xenons (my old fabia vrs) which had washers and levelling removed

If push comes to shove i'll just stick the original ones back in :)

fair enough pal, just didn't want you walking into this with eyes shut - could be an expensive £200 mistake

the looms I haven't heard about - if you search forums it should reveal more - all i know is L&K models had these as standard so may be a starting point if looking for a loom.

The alternative is just to fit retrofit HID into the oem xenon housing - these should be compatible with the 3 pin connector

I donr think they work off the oe halogen plug,

Power is fed from spade connectors that plug onto halogen bulb

Iirc

Why is it that the MOT people decided that if you have Xenons you have to have head light washers too? i understand the level sensors, as Xenons are ruddy bright for on coming traffic if mis alligned (manys a car has left me night blind with them!)My Octy aint got them, but was thinkin about upgrading.

The plug on the xenon lamp is fifferent to the halogen. However, it only clips into the back of the lamp so you can swap it for the one from your halogens. You will need to do some rewiring inside the lamp though.

The difficulty is the levelling motor. Xenon motor has 4 wires, halogen only 3. I made up new mounts inside the lamp and used my original halogen lamp motors instead.

So your the person I lost them too then. ******! haha.

Good luck! I have been through a dispute with ebay & paypal with an item that was purchased outside of the rules. They did not refund my lost money for that very reason.

i think i have them wiring harness plugs on mine, alot of money just to have the xenons working and no control motor!!!! this just gives u basic controls like dipped headlight (xenon), and when u go to main beam ur xenon will cut off!!!, and u will have working side light and fog light but thats it.. i havent had the time to get my motors working on mine but light the other guy said best to retro fit the old ones as u will have full control off them then..as for the washers i would strongly recommend as the xenon's when dirty give out crap light and ur constantly cleaning them especially other winter time when the salt like s to stick to them so a retro fit washers is a must on them....

but let me no how u get on if u do get the plugs cause i would like to finish mine :)

Have a look on ebay for a 5 litre washer bottle as well, fits into the same place as the 3 litre one but came as standard on the Xenon-equipped ones so handy if you do decide to fit the headlight washers.

I doubt that the Kufatec plugs will keep the xenon lit when mainbeam is one as this is controlled elsewhere on the car. The is an empty socket on the back of the headlamp switch on the dash for this and you need a repair wire to get the correct connector and this needs to be connected in to the back of the fuse box. I have this (following wiring diagram for a MkIV Golf) and the xenon stays on with main beam.

I have these fitted from factory, and to be honest I don`t get what everyone raves about. They are not very bright at all, not compared to modern cars BMW Audi Vauxhall etc.

Driving to the hospital the other night my wife said turn your lights on!! they were on! I think I need to replace the bulbs as they are probably the original ones now 9/10 years old they must lose power as they get older. Got a price before for OSRAM XENARC SILVERSTAR D2S bargain only £149.00 I was shocked at the price, but shortly the nice young lady told me I would need two WHAT :bandit: near on £300.00 for bulbs who is having a laugh!! She sounded very cute though on the phone. :giggle:

D2s bulbs can be had for £35 a piece and at 10 years old you probably need them

I just like the look tbh

Don`t get me wrong I prefer the look of them to the standard lights. Its just the light output I am not happy with, so I better crack on and order some new bulbs I might be surprised.

Mine are brilliant, with nearly new 6000k Philips units. Cost less than £60 delivered.

I find the levelling a load of **** to be honest, they are far too low. I've disconnected the levelling plug and will pop it back in come MOT if it's an issue.
