Intermittently flickering dash lights

Featured Replies

Good day fellow Briskodians :hi:

Wondering if anyone can help/point me in the right direction regarding an issue with my 2010 Greenline. I am the second owner of the car but it has been in the family since new (SWMBO's parents).

Now since I have had it, i've noticed that the flat tyre light always seems to be on; but it isn't on if you catch my drift? It is ever so slightly illuminated. The first day I had it I thought it was on so inflated all tyres to correct pressure but it is still 'slightly' on. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what that is caused by?

This morning has seen the problem exacerbated. Both indicator lights are slightly illuminated now aswell. They flicker anywhere between 15-25% brightness at a guess.

The car is in with Skoda next week to have a leaky boot sorted out so thought I would go in armed with some info if anybody has some to share!

Thanks in advance

We had something very similar on my wife'sDaihatsu about 2 years ago, various warning lights were coming on and off. Turned out to be a poor battery earth connection. Cleaned it up and tightened - no problem since.

Cheers for that mate, will give it a try!

Could also be a slack connection at the back for the dash. Or another suggestion could be that the piece of plastic that seperates the lights between the smds could be slightly loose letting a small amount of light through.

Thanks for the reply, will check them both out.

Lee, did you ever figure this out?

I have an old Skoda Octavia that is showing the flickering lights but only on the dashboard. Headlights + radio, etc. work just fine. With little experience in this, I am not sure if it is the alternator (but then, even the headlights would be failing, right?) or some fuse.

I saw Wilson323f said the "smds", what is that?

Thanks!

Assuming you have a MK2 Octavia, this guide might help:

Question: How do you know which LEDS are failing?  My speedo and tachometer are both intermittent. Occasionally the fuel gauge and temperature gauge are also going off. I don't understand why they would be flashing on and off - my understanding of LEDS is that they are either working or dead - but not intermittent. A dead LED would not go on & off. I am thinking the problem is a bad connection or earth?? Can anyone please explain why this is happening?

I think it's a common problem. When I bought mine, half of the speedo leds weren't working, then they came on for a minute, then went off. I have been gradually losing the leds on the whole binnacle since then. They still flash on and off occasionally, but mainly off. There are companies out there who specialise in repairing the binnacle,  fitting new LEDS etc. I found one about an hour and a half away in Leicester, they repair the binnacle for about £185. Not going to bother with it now because I'm selling the car.
