2007 1.9 TDi (PD) Fabia Estate.

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I'm off to look at one of the afformentioned tonight. Being a Skoda newbee what should I be looking for?

I've read about potential door leakage / wet mats, might this be an issue on this one or was it fixed by 07?

It's an 'Elegance' model.

Any other thoughts, advice, experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Andrew.

Had the 1.9 PD engine in a Golf Plus, pulls like a train, very economical (over 50 MPG ) but a bit noisey on start up. OK when running anything over 30 mph.

Is this the latest shape Fabia? If not suggest post in 'mark 1' section.

I just love my mark 2 1.6 Fabia, comfortable, quiet and roomy. 42 mpg regularly and totally reliable. Try and get a spare wheel with the car.

If it's a mark 1 then, my son has one that's done over 100,000 miles without breakdown, good economy and only just needing console bushes replacing, has had front brakes and service items but that's all!

By the way, andrew74, you've come to a great site to get info and Skoda friends.

Oops, should have read more carefully. If it's an Elegance it MUST be a mark 1. Body water leaks seem to have been fixed on later production models.

Service history important, as is the use of the correct 'Pumpe Duse' engine oil.

What sort of mileage does it have? These engines are good for 150,000 mile plus, though, depending on regular service and oil changes. Make sure the cam belt has recently been changed, get documents or factor in approx £100- £150 to change it straight away if you are not sure. Not worth chancing it!

Thanks for your replies, sounds like I might have posted in the wrong place.

Milage is circa 50k so plenty of life left in her. One owner from new. FSH, for sale at the garge that supplied it new. What is the service interval for the Cam Belt?

Not sure what interval is but you could make the belt-change ( and documents to show it's done) part of the deal, just befor signing.

I got a space saver spare and tools when I helped my nephew buy a 2 year old estate mark 2 from a dealer.

It's a great car, the Fabia, get a good demonstation run for at least 20 mins to ensure you are happy with it. Good plan to buy from supplying dealer, he'll have the service history. 50,000 is just run in and you'll get better economy than a new Pumpe Duse as they take 10-15,000 miles to get optimum economy from new.

Assume you'll get a warranty with this car so you don't have to worry, get a couple of long trips done reasonably soon to make sure all's well with the car.

Dealer will sort any niggles, Im sure.

Thanks for your reply.  I've seen the car, pretty impressed so far.  The dealer has a few jobs to do to it, plus a complete valet, as the car has only just come in as part/x on a new sale. Comes with 12 months warranty.

Hello All,

I originally posted this in the Fabia II section, but the Mods have now kindly moved me to the correct place!

I took a look at the car last night & I'm pretty keen. Once again, what are the main things to look out for on this car? Would the door leaks / wet floor mat issues be sorted on one of this age (April 07)?

All comments & advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I have a 2006 1.4tdi Bohemia Estate and love it. The cambelt replacement intervals if they're the same for the 1.9 as the 1.4 PD are every four years or 56,000miles I think? Mine's a Dec 2006 model and has a slight issue with leaky rear door seals but I believe its and easy fix.

Having done nearly 20,000 miles in mine (now 59,000) I have had very little in the way of issues. I have just had to have the front suspension bushes replaced and from discs and pads but that's about it.

I would certainly recommend one!

Cheers,

Jonno

Cam belt should have been done by now as it needs to be changed @ a maximum of 4 year intervals regardless of the mileage covered. You should get this done as part of the deal if you decide to buy and also have the water pump changed at the same time.

I have a 07 estate in a 1.4 tdi - (1.9tdi with a cylinder less) with 180,000 km on it and looking forward to the next 200,000km!

As stated, regular oil changes using the correct oil are the key to keeping these motors running.

The doors haven't leaked on mine ..... so far.

You (future) car is just about ready for Cam belt and water pump replacement. You have two options: Either cut them down on price by minimum of £350 or INSIST of them doing it before you taking delivery. It would be better if they do the job so you could have come back if something is not done as it should.

Good luck

Many thanks for your comments. Will definatley ensure the belt has been done & 'challenge' them over the water pump (I had one go on my MK4 Golf, I take it they are all the same?).

I checked both of the rear door seals over. Nearside was fine, but there was quite a lot of water resting on top of the door seal on the offside. All of the carpets were dry to touch but the mats had been removed. I wonder if the water on the seal might have come from over-enthusiastic use of the pressure washer?

I am also considering a 'new shape' Fabia Estate, do these have the same issues or any additional ones? Probaly looking for an 08 / 58 age car. Are the leaky door issues fixed on the newer ones?

Thanks again,

Andrew

I have a 2007 mk1 estate and had 3 doors leaking a few months ago. Also had to get the timing belt changed as it was needed due to the age of the car.

Water on top of the door seals means the doors are likely leaking I would say. You might be able to see water marks on the inside of the doors where it runs down from the door card. Be aware that the car could have been stored inside so the carpets could be reasonably dry as a result (thats how I missed the issue).

As stated above a 2007 age Fabia means it should have been done already. Its 4 years if its not reached the mileage .

The door seals aren't too hard to fix yourself and it only cost me £12 (sealant and door clips)

I love my Fabia, great little car.

Don't worry about the door shuts! Absoloutley easy to fix yourself. I did my other one last weekend.

Get a cam belt and water pump deal in with the car..

If its a skoda approved used car with 12 months warrenty then you can't go wrong!

I've got the elegance hatch back 1.9tdi and it's a really nice car to drive and I often get over 60mpg on trips!

All the best
