Hello - and a spare wheel question

Featured Replies

That is correct.

I have the supplied spare wheel in storage & bought the boot floor and polystyrene filler. I do carry a spare, but it is full size and mounted vertically to the r/h side of the boot. I have a compressor as well as the supplied tools, but not the gunk. I don't want the gunk either....

any chance of seeing a photo of this?

BTW - can any of you spare wheel owners provide me with a photo of the original Yeti jack? Trying to figure out which one to choose at fleebay ...

Thank you.

Thank you, I've already seen that thread. Sadly the sticker or other (possibly stamped ?) information is not visible - most importantly the weight limit.

BTW#2 - regarding other topic - if I understand correctly you need to rotate the centre post 90 degrees to remove it (not the 45). Sorry for nitpicking :giggle:

Thank you.

The jack from my 1998 Passat fitted perfectly both in use and in the storage hole in the boot floor.

Thank you Sanqhar & TP - looks like I need a jack capable of lifting ~1100 kg (now it seems logical that it is roughly 1/2 of maximum car weight).

Back to spare wheel (spacesaver) questions: is there a slightest chance that a 15" would fit (1,4; MY12)? I am thinking that the calipers may be a problem ...

From recollection a forum member tried fitting smaller than recommended rims for use with their preferred winter tyres; believe they were 15" but they only managed this by filling lumps of the callipers :o :o :o

From an engineering background I would not recommend such action

Of course you're right. Only if it did fit without any alterations needed I would consider it an option.

It's just that the 15" spares are significantly cheaper.

Anyway - going for 16" than.
