VRS - Removing the lower (honeycomb) grille?

Featured Replies

After an hour of gaffing around chafing my fingers and swearing, I have decided to come back in, and ask you clever folk.

I very cleverly drove into a low concrete wall (it's a short, but boring story), which has broken a clip on the lower grille on my VRS, as well as making some of the other clips pop out. So the lower grill is now a bit wonky.

Because the plastic is so stiff, I'm unable to pull it back far enough to re-seat the clips that popped out.

So, I've been trying to figure out how I remove the thing, so I can put it back in properly - only I can't figure it out.

There are a load of really stiff clips, which no matter what I do with my stubby fingers doesn't seem to make any difference at all - I just can't budge the thing.

Has anyone removed it? Any tips?

I don't want to have to go to Skoda with my head hanging in shame...

Thanks

Louis

Is it the chrome lower grill? If so its a pain in the a$$, absolutely loads of clips. I lost my temper and just wrenched it out on mine when i swapped it for the black pack grille

+1 tried to remove it the correct way for 5 mins, then just ripped it off

I'm still finding chrome shards on my drive lol

No - not the chrome bit - the black plastic 'honeycomb' lower grille.

Anyone tried to get one off (without hitting a wall)?

infront of the intercooler?

You need to remove the tray underneath, then it can be unclipped. Not the easiest job on your back, best if it's on a ramp.

Why are you removing it ?

Only need to remove it to re-fit it.

Some of the clips have come out, and I can't bend it out far enough to get them back in. So I figure if I remove it completely I can take a look at what I'm dealing with...

Didn't think I'd have to get it on a ramp!!

Will have to find a charitable friend with too much time on their hands and a spare ramp...

Thanks for the tip.

That's the one.

They are just stiff clips, if you get a flat blade behind it you should be able to gently lift them out without damaging the bumper...

bump for Naths-VRS,

this is on the bottom grill, but there are other threads on the grill with the vRS badge on,

and there is a Pinned thread on Monte Carlo grills in the Fabia Technical section.

Pictures have gone though.
