Fabia vrs - Aircon Unit Damage

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 54 reg Fabia vrs. Last week, there was suddenly a really noisy clunky sound coming from the aircon unit. I called the AA out. Their very forthcoming and helpful engineer identified that the aircon unit had somehow come lose and damaged.

I am hoping to find a used unit that can be taken as a replacement the original part would be more than 500 Pounds so wonder if someone has one to sell.

Thanks,

H

Hi and welcome to Briskoda.

I've heard of a problem where the pulley retaining nut on the compressor clutch comes loose and can fall off; is this what happened? £500 sounds like a replacement compressor (a reasonable price IMO), but would be surprised if this was necessary if just the nut fell off. We probably need more details to be of any help.

The Fabia doesnt have a clutch on the compressor, be interested what's gone on here.

Buying a second hand air con compressor is a real gamble unless you see it working before it is removed. Most of the breakers have suffered front end damage which usually damages the compressor as they are fairly fragile. I speak from experince having fiited two second hand units which were both goosed. I bit the bullet in the end and purchased a new unit from Autoairparts.co.uk. I think I paid approx £330.

My guess is that the compressor has seized and has sheared the plastic drive that links the pulley to compressor shaft. If you look inside the a/c pulley, you will probably find a mangled square of plastic.
