Torque Android app

Ho accurate are people finding the boost, HP and torque readings?

I find it reports that mine is boosting up to 30 psi, has a max of 90hp and 120 ft/lb's of torque! lol

  • Yeah theres a free lite copy, with reduced fucntion. The bought one is only £3 though. I'm running a wobbly one atm, but I am going buy the full one now as it appears to do boost !!

  • Let us know how you get on mate

  • Theres actually a HUD mode built into it yes, in the menu when you're looking at the gauges. Just obviously you'll have to mount the device in a place you can see it.

There's an option to adjust the boost between -14.7 and +14.7 psi depending on the atmospheric pressure, I think you want to set it so that it has -14.7psi knocked off the value.

I don't think the torque and hp values are going to be very accurate as from what I could see on the menus it does those by some kind of acceleration calculation with the cars weight and GPS position.

On diesels there is an engine torque reading in VAG-Com so if you can get hold of that with the ELM it would be a more accurate measure. On petrols you can take the MAF reading in g/s and divide it by 0.8 to get the horsepower then use that and the revs to work out the torque.

Well I got the new version running, it's definately an upgrade, some nice touches, and boost is working albeit the figures are a bit wonky.

Does anyone have any info the weight of the mk1, or any other useful info ?

Theres quite a few settings too trawl through and have a play with thats for sure.

Think the Mk1 hatchback is about 1375kg but you need to add your weight to that as well.

Petrol tank is about 12.2 imperial gallons (55 litres)

Boost correction is -14psi or -1000mbar (same as VAG-Com) this will get you the right boost figure.

I've just ordered this adapter - I've been thinking about it for at least a year.

Will certainly be a nice gadget

I'll see how I get on :)

Cool. Thank you will check this out.

I have also just installed a cool little plugin I have yet to play with. It will send the info to a Sony Ericsson Liveview watch (which I have btw).

Phil

I've just tried it on a 51 Leon TDI and it works fine so TDI guys take note.

cheers chicken, gonna order myself the bits now :)

Received mine this morning.

Have only played with the free app but so far it's brilliant :)

Just ordered a Bluetooth thingy looks interesting can't wait to play lol

Ordered mine last night. Can't wait for it to arrive.

After much fiddling and tweaking.........

It now reads boost, although ever-so sligthly out from gauge, and I'm running about 8-100 ft/lbs of torque and about 80 bhp !!!!!

and it keeps telling me I have a faulty OBD2 adapter, which the old version never did lol, the error count thing claims about 5 error each time torque is running, and yet figures for everything else bar boost look fine ??

LOL they don't sound that great do they. I had a go with mine in a mates VRS on Sunday and noticed how you get quite a bit of delay on the rev counter compared to the real revs. Thing is it reads fault codes fine so for a tenner for the adaptor and 3 quid for the app it's still a cheaper fault scanning solution than a chinese ebay cable

Did you both buy the ones that do the faster communications feature? Higher speed bluetooth adapter basically. Mine is near enough real time to what I see on my clocks.

Boost can lag a little bit but its pretty much there. As for whether its accurate I haven't been able to check that as I don't have a proper boost gauge yet. Everything else seems spot on though. :) 4 months and zero problems with it.

It was just a bog standard ELM327 adaptor I think. I've given it to my mate now anyway as it won't work on the Feli and if he likes it he's buying it off me.

I'd say the boost should be accurate as it will be using the same sensor readings as VAG-Com. You could do a third gear boost log in Torque and the same again in VAG-Com block 115 and I don't imagine the figures would be much different.

Going to order one myself today, but was wondering if I should go for a v1.4 or v1.5 dongle. Anyone know the difference? What version are you guys using?

Main concern is compatibility with the mk1 (53 plate) Octy and Samsung Galaxy S2.

Any info welcome!

Cheers

Bob.

If the dongle is designed for OBD-II it'll work on any Mk1 Octy (inc VRS). Just had a text from a mate who's using his on someones VW Transporter van :)

And as it's an Android app it should work fine on a Galaxy S2. I have it working on my HTC Desire.

Nice one. Just logged in via PC (was on my phone before) and note that David 8 got the v1.5 dongle and has a MK1 Octy.

Gonna place my order now. Yay, retail therapy!

Ordered mine the other day. Can't wait for it to turn up. Should be quite interesting to see what features there are to play with and what worrying things it will tell me about my engine ! :hi:

Just got a new HTC One S so the adapter that Davis 8 linked to is what i shall be purchasing shortly. Any tips using it on a mk1 Fabia VRS?

Don't forget in the vehicle profile to set it to take the equivalent of atmospheric pressure (14psi) at sea level off of the boost readings, otherwise you might think your turbo is about to blow up!

I received the BT OBDII interface today and it works on my wife's Clio on the drive (not tried it on the Octy yet).

I would like to buy the Pro version but the only place that sells it appears to be Google Play and I do not want to sign up with my credit card details to Google Wallet.

I have searched the Internet and the only other sites that have it offer it 'free' probably with some other virus/trojan for free as well!

Is there anyway to buy Torque Pro legally without going through Google Wallet?

Richard

Liger, a lot of people use google play/android market all the time. Its perfectly safe and easy to use. Sometimes if you visit the app makers website they can sell direct to you though.

I have used and bought apps on Google Market/Play store since android was first around and there was literally just a handful of apps on it.

Never had any problems with purchasing and it also means if you are on a website buying something and they have google checkout you can buy without having to register on the site and it just goes through google.

The only other way is as you have described and get it from a warez site.

Your choice!

Phil

Bought all my apps through Android Marketplace (now Google Play) and never had a problem.
