Crap Climate Control

Featured Replies

Man, it's sooooo hot today !

Does anybody else think the VAG climate control is a bit crap ? I've had it on full blast (low, auto) in my Octy all day and it still feels absolutely roasting. My girlfriend's Golf is no better.

This is in comparison to her previous car (Vectra) and my old Focus. They were just Air Con rather than CC, but seemed to get the inside of the car soooo much colder, even in the South of France.

That's the benefit of aircon over CC... :D

Rob.

It's not brilliant.

I think the CC was better in my old Vario, but when I used it on extreme days the nearside rear passenger footwell got extremely damp. To the point of being able to sponge water out...

Mark

rubbish, as I'll bet the difference between the aircon and CC is just the control part....

Greg, get it regassed \ checked out? Mine is lovely, ice cold on permanent "LO" this morning, just felt like an oven when I stepped out of the car!

Exactly - I can tell mine to keep blasting ice cold air into my face

even when it's well below 19^C. :D

Ian, the car's only 6 weeks old mate, and my gf's Golf is only 8 weeks old, find it hard to believe that it's broken already ?

Nope. I'm impressed with the Climatronic in my 4X4 too, thankyou. It coped very well today with an OAT of 32

My CC definitely doesn't get as cold in my vRS as the AC in my wifes Fabia, it still cools the interior down well, but takes ages. Putting your hand in front of the air vent on the low auto setting it feels cool. On my wifes fabia, it feels COLD. Is this a 4x4 v vrs thing?

Okay I may have exaggerated when I said it was still roasting, but yes, it does take ages and although it eventually gets comfortable it never really gets COLD to the extent my Focus used to ... :(

Absolutely not. Get your dealer to check that the aircon is performing to spec becuase it doesn't sound as if it is. Good luck. :)

My RS's CC works perfectly. Sat in the car for 5 hours today in perfect comfort with the temperature set to 20 degrees (as it always is). It cools really fast when getting in the car. Makes alot of noise but does cool.

You say your car is only a few weeks old, maybe that's the problem. When I picked up my Octavia I had to wait for them to complete the PDI, (Pre Delivery Inspection) I was told I was waiting for them to charge up the a/c as their cars were not delivered charged up they have to do it at the garage just before it goes out.

Maybe yours wasn't done that well at the start? My estate climate is pretty good even though it has more interior space to cool than your hatch, 5 hours+ on the Motorways yesterday with a full load it coped admireably as the outside temp didn't fall below 30 !

To be honest, the air con is going to be more effective on a motorway as the forced air , due to the speed, through the condenser is going to be cooler and thus cool the condenser better giving better results.

The trouble is with the current heatwave we all start to question the effectiveness of our air con as we are looking for greater temp differences between inside and out...... I know I am and still not totally convinced of it ability.

Cheers

Andy

Mine was fine this morning, and it's stop start heavy traffic...

(oh and Rob, it's 18, and then we have a "LO" setting where it blasts the coldest air it can at the highest fan speed - we don't need to carry a fridge around with us ;))

My 4x4 is 18 months old and I find that there's an a, b and c to this:)

a) It works better if you push the recirc button as well

B) Its not as cold as g/fs Mondeo of the same age

c) It could be that its very HOT !

I didn't realise CC produced chilled beverages too... :p

Any news on that amp, or is that a daft question? :D

Rob.

Aircon for European cars and for the UK market typically only has small condensors and compressors since we don't need them most of the time. The one in my Octy is better than the ones on either of my Mondeos. Before that I had never had aircon on a car. I still go around a large percentage of the time with mine switched off, being a cheapskate at heart.

If you get in a car in the US you can bet the aircon will have a capacity twice or three times that of a typical European family car.

put it on recirc... mine gets too cold.....;) is also 6 weeks old.. my clk leaked and was utter rubbish - at a few weeks old...

Yup - recirc is a good technique - keep making the interior air colder and colder rather than drawing in more warm air from outside. Just do it til the car gets cool though otherwise the air will get very stale after quite a short while.

Yes the garage I got my Fabia at told me to run it on recir for the first 5 or 10 minutes as it gives the air conditioning less work to do, instead of cooling all the air from the outside. I think the air conditioning on the Skoda is not a patch on my Dad's old Volvo, the AC max on that car would freeze you! But suppose like it has been already said Volvo's are built for America too. The Fabia cools down well, however but the effect is lost very quick if parked up for 5 or more minutes.

Set it on lo & recirculate, thats what it says in the Manual & it worksfine on both our Octavias.

If you dont put it on Recirculate then it is always taking fresh air from outside which at the moment is very hot. With recirc it takes air from inside the car & keeps cooling it

My CC is 500% better than our previous car (Renault Scenic) it cools down perfectly and the fan is very good.

I can understand why it would be better on the motorway as you would get more heat disippated across the condenser at speed. The greater the heat rejection the better it will be inside for the evaporator.

If you are getting no cooling or very little get it checked out. Climate control will not affect the cooling it is just a means of controlling the temperature automatically.

Mine is fine.

Had it set on 20 degrees this afternoon, exterior temp 35, sitting in traffic, no problem at all.

I always used to have mine on LO , but with the panel showing ECON...to activate the aircon i used to just press the ECON button , (econ dissapears on the panel) in this case would the CC work as a standard manual aircon system? (never used AUTO setting once in 2 years.. I may as well have bought an Irish spec car!!) Always use the recirc button in hot weather tho , like has been said before , it is in the manual. I could do with aircon in the Lancer , especially as its dark blu met and has a glass sunroof , its like driving an oven home from work just now!

I'll be taking the recirculation thing on board as I don't think the climate control is as good as it should be. I always thought cc was 'superior' to straight forward a/c.

Had a go in a mates Alfa 147 at the weekend and the c/c on that was certainly :icecream: chilly! Apart from every warning light coming on every other 5 minutes (faulty sensors!) I was impressed with the car.
