Anybody got any experience with the Givi E21  or E22 panniers?

I've got the v35's atm but not a big fan of side opening or how massively wide they make the bike. Its a right pain trying to get through traffic with the width. It's wider than my dads 1200 GSA and a mates Multistrada when they're fully loaded!

It's like trying to filter in a car :D

More farkling and a nice moist shakedown ride at the weekend [emoji3]

Even got my manbag fitted [emoji106]

That is a Jack Baur bag isn't it?

Nice looking bike Fluff shame about the engine! :D    I would rather see a picture of the Kwacker cafe racer next time though please.

I had Givis on my vfr but I cannot recall which ones.  You do have to be careful about filtering and yes a top opening one would be better. Thing is to have an inner bag and then that way you just drag it all out and leave the pannier on the bike when you get there.  I used to have to take mine off the bike and take the into the hotel.

Yeah I've been taking the panniers off and taking them into the hotels. The inner bags are £55 though haha.

Its just too wide really. Looks abit silly n is a nightmare with motorway filtering. Really struggles to fit between lanes. I had to angle my mirrors down to keep an eye on it. I quite often end up stopped and walking it through, mm's to spare at each side. Scared of smacking someones car. But when the traffic is stopped for ages n ages, theres no choice really.

Went hunting a CBX1000 down.

The struggle for an original one is real, but came across alsorts on the way!

I take it that is for your Dad then?  There are quite a few advertised on fleabay and the like but at WOW prices.  Anything 70s and 80s era now is fetching stupid money but I suppose they are worth what people will pay.

On a different note one of my riding mates from the RATS came for a cuppa this morning as he was out on a brand new Triumph Trophy from Webbs of Lincoln  He was putting a few miles on it for them as they will be using it as a demo bike  It has all the toys like electric suspension, screen a radio and who knows what else.  Size of a supertanker though!  I sat on it on my drive and it is way too big for my liking  Don't even want to know how much it is!!!

Both him and his mate are after one each. Money isnt so much the problem, its finding a decent one. Theres loads of lemons about. Dads knowledge on them is just silly.. he can look at anything and tell ya if its right, if its US spec or UK, etc etc. He wants a good one but not soo good that you wouldn't want to ride it.

Theres one in Rochdale, which wasn't up for sale a few months back.. its not advertised anywhere but its done 480 miles from new. its literally like a brand new bike, just how it should be. He wants £20k for it which isnt so much of a problem either, but they both want ones they can use. Putting miles on a 480 mile bike at this stage would be a shame, and £20k is top money.

A nice original, untampered with one thats not done too much is ideal. Just a good honest tidy bike.

I think with the knowledge your Dad has he could find one that is a good base for restoring to how he wants it.  When I say about stupid money I realise that for some (me included to a point) the price isn't a major problem financially.  It is just that the price is artificially high because of supply and demand and beyond what I would call realistic.  But then again as I have said before it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I am currently looking at a classic car.  I have realised that buying a Triumph triple and turning it into a cafe racer isn't likely to happen.  For one thing spending a grand at least for a donor and then as much if not more doing it up to ride it occasionally and not be able to take Jane out on it is asking a bit much.  So I have decided to buy a classic car that is over 40 years old so it benefits from free road tax and classic insurance. Then the problem of it being sat all week doing nothing losing money as the Octavia was is removed as hopefully it will hold it's value and even more hopefully increase in value.  Major plus is it will give me something to do to stop me from going crackers with boredom!

Yeah i completely agree that its stupid money, but maybe better spent on an appreciating classic than it is only going up on value than it is kept in the bank.

He is awaiting an e-mail back off another one we saw yesterday. A little rough around the edges in places but all original and the has potential to brought back like new.

Classic car sounds like a good plan mate tbh. Any particular one in mind? Please dont say an MGB ;):D :D

No not an MGB.  Don't do it for me to be honest.  I have always wanted a Triumph Stag and I am at the age where I can just about justify the expense as it would be an investment if I bought one at the right price and kept it decent.  I am also considering something considerably cheaper as well.  Main thing for me is that it would need to be able to be used as a daily driver and to keep up with modern traffic.

There are a number of cars out there that have not caught on as classics for whatever reason and can still be had for reasonable money.  Some of the stuff that I drove in my Traffic days like Volvo144, Triumph 2.5 appeal to me because they are big comfortable cars that could still keep up with traffic today and they can found at a decent price.  It is just finding one that doesn't need the same spending again to make it safe and prevent it from rotting away.

Another off the wall option is a Saab 95/96.  Still looking really and we are planning on going to the MGB/Triumph day at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire on Sunday to see what there is.

Thing is we do not 'need' a second car and for that reason it was difficult to justify keeping the Octavia.  If the car was free road tax and as most of the classics are under £100 per year to insure for me it can be very cheap motoring with a car I could maintain myself and with a bit of luck it would keep or improve it's value.  That being the case after the initial cost the cost of keeping it should be negligible where with the Octavia it was depreciating at a rapid pace and costing about £500 plus a year for tax and Insurance!

Just a thought at the moment and it may well pass with nothing at the end of it as with a lot of other bright ideas I have.  We shall see.  It will not be and MGB though I can promise you. :D

Good haha. I hate MGB's. Every man and his dog seems to have one haha.

I like your thinking though. Sounds a good plan.

Get a Saab. I think Saab's are brilliant tbh. Awesome cars.

Will defo keep up with traffic too ;).

Triumph Stag - just do it, I can guarantee you will not regret it one bit. I'm doing a nut and bolt rebuild on one at the minute, drop us a PM of you need any advice etc

Have a look in the build thread then :P

P.S. FAO of Chris try Peter S Taylor, seriously cheap classic insurance

Stag is my number one choice.  I have to be careful though as I do not have either the ability or the garage to do much to one let alone nut and bolt job.  If I can get one that is sound to start with rather than one that needs  a lot of work then that would do me.  I don't want to be paying top dollar for one that someone has 'allegedly' done.

Failing that it will be something off the wall and rare  I cannot abide Moggy 1000s and they are ten a penny still as are the MGB really (no offence).  As I said above the Saab 95/96 is rare and you don't see many about plus to my eye they look good.  Likewise the Volvo 144 can still be picked up cheaply as they are not popular as yet unlike the Amazon.  Another thought is the Reliant Scimitar GTE or even better C.

I have looked at your thread Frog and enjoyed it but as I say I do not have the room or skills for that and everything I had done would have to be farmed out.

Or a Reliant Robin? ;):D

The second word is off! :p
