lol me either if i'm 100% honest but i'm feeling particularly lazy :D

seems to have covered relatively well but is nowhere near dry yet so can't see how easy it is to sand

Whats the worst that can happen - id have to sand the worst bits down anyway so really this just gives me that little bit more to remove ;)

  • Put the PC down and move away from Google. Somehow that's reminded me of a dress the lead singer of The Gossip was wearing on Chatty Man. It suited her as much as it would suit your alloys, now behav

  • Well I learnt a new amazing technique last night!! It's called............giving a crap! Essentially if you take more time and care more about the outcome the results seems to be loads better! Craz

  • Id say do the red, but then I'm a little bit odd when it comes to wheels as you know.

This is true. I've put an hour into my wheels tonight going get two wheel insides done by this weekend, well that's the goal at least.

Pfft, ye of little faith. My wheels turned out fine. Make sure its completely dry, otherwise you'll find it melts and gets a little gunky.

Spray type is alot thinner than brush type, so you may get better results with spray.

don;t get me wrong hammerite is good stuff - i was tempted by their gold to test with whilst in B&Q i'm just not sure slathering it on with a brush is going to work.

Agree about the spray but it wont fill the corroded bits half as quickly ;)

I'm 2 and a half wheels in so far for sanding... And i've finally picked out the colour i'm going for

so on a scale of 1 to 10 for stupid ideas applying brush on hammerite to fill the holes was about a 12

It may or may not have been completely dry thig morning but hammerite (i guess doing what its supposed to do) is nigh on indestructable!

Sanding it just make is stick to the paper and go all clammy and almost "melt"

have had to break out the 60 grit and just get rid of it all

Stupid boy pike

Oh dear. Crack out the high build primer

Lol thats strange, im sure i sanded the first coat of my white wheels and they seems fine. Maybe it wasn't dry?

I hand painted part of my rear discs with black Hammerite some time ago, and I can still dig my nail in it now

Hmm.. Maybe hammerite spray is different to paint pot then.. I cant dig my nails into my wheels. looks just like normal paint.

yeah the spray version will be like any other spray - as you say much thinner and much harder waering.

The tin stuff is thick gloopy and a ****** to work with and almost as difficult to get rid of :D

First coat of primer has been flatted back and second coat applied.

Final coloured spray and clear lacquer will be ordered today

Keep it up mate not much to do now.

Not sure why you arent just putting a thin skim of filler on the areas and rubbing down again. The hammerite is a bodge and a bit silly if youve taken the time to do a good job so far?

yeah i know i know.

I got a bit impatient and am starting to get pressed for time.

Also got a little excited by seeing one in gold and gott all flustered and I just thought hammerite would work as filler.

It didn't!

Lesson learnt the hard way.

I'm going to skim the still slightly visible marks to the faces of the spokes and maybe the worst of the other bits.

Now everything is properly primed i'll get them out into the sunlight and have a look at exactly how bad they still are.

I might be able to live with it if it's not horrific.

I'm 3/4 wheels done now - cheers for the inspiration to finally get mine done!

I'll update you with a quick image of how mine look at the end for comparison if you like ;)

Crazy or what!!!

Worst spoke damage skimmed and sanded back flat again and a million time better - and no hammerite in sight.

My clear coat has arrived today now jsut waiting for the gold to turn up and we'll be there!!

After days of chasing my gold spray around the country (CityLink? More like Sh1ttyLink!) it's finally arrived and we have progress

however i may have made a grave mistake.

You know in Pulp Fiction thers a suitcase that whenever its opened glows gold.....i fear my wheels may have become that!

apparently these two are not the same

The "enamel" was the smallest can i could buy to run my tests with.

I had expected that as they were both brass the finish on the larger metallic cans would be the same.

Unfortunately "Metallic" version is a damn site more metallic than i expected and appears to carry a fair amount for chrome effect!!

the effects in the pictures are worsened by using the flash

Obviously they are still wet, under an artificial light, and these are the insides so there is plenty of reflection but i'm hoping it dries back a fair way and the coats of clear lacquer will dull it down a bit!

Otherwise all the pimp/Mr T jokes the other half has been chucking at me may be bang on the money!

That is.... Blingtastic. ;)

Wouldn't dream of it :giggle:

I love it! :p

:o thats bright if you peel it off is there a ticket inside to see wonkers factory :p

i refurbed a set of MG Midget wheels for my old man a few years ago, I used silver spray and used black Hammerite smooth for the infills. Looks great until i tryed to laquer it.... the laquer melted the Hammerite! Had to strip it all off and start again!!

I love it! :p

Excellent fancy buying them? :D

Having taken them outside and checked them in daylight this morning they are still as bling as ever!

I'm hopnig that the faces will be less "extreme" given the smaller coverage areas on show.

If not well i'll have to formulate another plan.

I'm thinking mabye a nice dusting of silver to dull them down or just flat the finish back with P600 wet & dry

we'll see

They look awesome :)

Matte lacquer? Or do you want me to stop suggesting things now?
