under tray thing?

Featured Replies

My bottom intercooler pipe has poped off yet again and im fed up off taking the undertray/**** shield on and off. So does any one run with out it on and is there any reason i shouldnt leave it off? Hopefully ordering the fmic from the group buy tomorrow so wont be off for to long. So can anyone shine some light on this?

Well, mine fell off a while ago and after dragging it all round Bristol I decided to leave it off. It look slike the plastics it screws onto have all cracked an a number of the clip holes have broken out, so need to reapir/replace before I can refit it.

I have noticed though that during wet weather I've now got a soggy passenger footwell. I've looked under the mats & car and it look like someone may have jacked the car up badly and cracked the footwell.

I imagine the undertray helps divert water and air under the vehicle away from components which may be affected by water ingress, so think I'll be refitting mine to see if it helps. If it were me I'd put it back on.

I have tried the dor reapirs, althoguh think I'll re-do it to see if that works.

Without the undertray you risk getting road crap in the cam belt and aux belt systems - potential for premature failure.

so its the water is the main issue? it realy nice and sunny here at the mo and ment to be for a few days. so in the dry do you think i will be ok till me new cooler comes then refit back correctly as it will have to come off again for when it arrives.

oh now thats more a problem i was thinking.

Should be fine for a little while, especially if the weather stays dry. You'de probably get these kind of problems if it was permanently removed.

well going to order the fmic tomorrow so hopefully have it with in the week and fit it friday.

I've ran without one for ages, no issues yet. The Cam belt is sealed in with covers anyway isn't it? Yes the aux belt is exposed but they are on lots of cars that didn't come with under trays!

They help with mpg keeping the underside more stream lined and possibly reduce a bit of wind noise etc.

I've run without mine for a while now due to it kept catching on some speedbumps even though I'm not running all that low. No real issue's without it.

cheers guys, good to know a few have run with no issue.

Mine disappeared at some point between jan last year and sept last year, run without one ever since with no issues, I'm possibly looking at fabricating a metal undertray however to protect the gearbox, sump and other things

Not had one for 4 years lol. It helps airflow and I keep meaning to get one back on but not managed to yet

I ran without one for 15 months before i got a new one. Never had any issues at all but i must say that since putting a new one on, the bay seems to stay cleaner and the engine "drone" is less noticeable at speed.

Are they expensive to buy and for a dealer to fit? Mines just come slightly loose as the aspic has cracked! :/

mine is somewhere in Aberdeen, so if anyone fancies selling theirs let me know! lol

Mines getting naturaly cleaned in the garden by rain , This thread justreminded me to put it back on... anotger weekend job haha

ive got a small one fitted at front but think thats part of bumper, in the search for mpg could we not fit a bluemotion version from a polo?

Mine kept falling off and was told by a marshal at knockhill to remove it or I wasn't aloud back on track ha. Never had any issues with water or anything with mine in the last 4 months mate.
