Sticky throttle pedal, where to lubricate?

Featured Replies

Hello people,

I've got a sticky throttle pedal. The car just idles a little to high, around 1100rpm. But it drops when I pull the pedal up with my foot.

I've done a search and some people have lubricated it as a temporary fix. But the posts didn't say exactly where they sprayed the lubricant?

Do I need to take the cover off? Or can I just spray over the cover?

I don't have the cash for a new pedal right now, and the fast idle is irritating when braking!

Cheers...

Its electronic so spraying it with something wont be a permanent fix. I changed the who pedal, think it was about £80? Easy job to do and no more sticking!

Take the pedal assembly out & open it up. Check for corrosion on the contacts, as the pedal returns to idle, or "off". Lubricate the contacts with a small smear of silicon-grease and use spray-grease on the pivot-point of the pedal.

They do have a little adjustment: there should be some paint-blobs on the bolts, to show where it's been set and locked. I adjusted the fast-idle out of mine & have had no problems since then, 8 months ago.

oops i fired a little wd40 through gaps on either side of assembly

worked for a while started doing it again yesterday in traffic

Not the best thing to use on slow-moving pivots, unless you want to strip the grease out & encourage the dirt in! WD-40 is good for curing squeaks & not much else!

noted and placed on the job list

mine just started doing it got 1 from skoda main dealer on ebay £70 inc postage, wanted £82 from my work (vw main dealer) thats with my discount!

I was sh**ting myself when I dived in to the gubbins of it (I'd just bought the car & started it after work, in the dark, with a feeble torch!) but it was simple enough to get into (torx bolts) & even simpler inside.

Unless the connections are broken, it should be repairable...wish I'd took pics & uploaded them now!
