vRS Tyres

Featured Replies

Think I'll need some soon for the front and it hasn't done 8000 miles yet! This is only because I've noticed that my passenger tyre looked low but drivers side isn't too bad. At first I thought it was pressures but I check fortnightly and checked again just now and they are all spot on. The only thing I can think of is if I boot it, it does torque steer to the left a bit. Plus the other day than to some woman thinking it was fine to pull out on me when I was doing 60 I had to slam on hard. I doubt it is this but are the only reasons I can think of.

Still not 100% sure what to get next but thinking Bridgestone RE050A or some form of Michelin. Any ideas?

wow - you need them pretty soon!!

8000 miles since august last year?

I've not covered 5500 yet and mines a year old June :D

My tyres all good still - 6mm left.

Going to swap fronts to the back for extra miles though, considered the same?

*Cough* Vredstein *Cough*

I have just put some Michellin PS3's on and they seem to have a lot of grip compared to the Dunlops however the Dunlops did last me 23k miles since July last year.

Oh and I'm definitely not having Dunlops or Conti's. Loads on forums rave about Vredsteins but after asking my tyre fitter and a few others they say many over rate them as a tyre so I'm not sure what to think about them.

AdLav - It's since end of September. I reckon I could take them to 8500 but that's all

Do you go around lots of roundabouts? Might explain the extra wear on the NS.

Three to work and four back. None taken at speed there's too much traffic

When I replace my tyres I was thinking of changing fron 205/40/17 to 215/40/17

Is there any advantages or disadvantages in doing this?

Any information advice would be appreciated.

I won't be as I'm only changing fronts this time. Rears look new.

maxxis victra's ;) bloody amazing on a hot day! temps make all the difference though, but still suprised me today with an almost unfeasable ammount of grip on a hot dry roundabout....

There was sumbody that went from 205 to 215 was reading it ages ago in a post and was trying to find it again but cant as im needing tyres soon if i dont swap them around.

There are many mixed ideas about which tyres i have grown to love these conti sp2 but no longer produced and road noise starting to do ma head in, new dunlops (cant remember name) i think or sp5's are the way forward.

If any one could enlighten us about putting 215 on i would soo greatful thanks again guys

215/40/17 is fine, no issues. personally though I'm sticking to 205's

6mm on the fronts 7mm on the rears plenty left after 5000miles

are Continental Premium Contact 2s anygood im not sure id go for dunlops again

im not sure id go for dunlops again

Me neither the dunlop sport maxx are utterly utterly sh1te

The end

Having the Vredstein's I'd say all the hype is true, they are insanely grippy comparef to the Sportmaxx I had.

I am also running the 215s coupled with the RARB and the grip is sooooo much better.

Everything is grippy compared to Sportmaxx ;).

Federal RSR-595, tested and approved by your local friendly swedish viking!

I have conti sport 3's on mine, great tyre :)

I like my Bridgestone RE 050A very much and they were worth every penny,

but just had a weekend of driving with the orignal tyres/wheels that came with the car.

THe Dunlops where just the tyres to have for 600 miles of Scotlands best driving roads with 26 -29.5 degree celcius temp,

23 degrees last night at 10pm.

There are some right tyre snobs around, they obviously are much more demanding and sporty drivers than me,

or maybe just fussy & track users..

The Dunlops can provide good fun driving in the right conditions.

(If you are reaching their limit on the UK roads you must be to be near doing double the National speed limit ,

or just bothered about them spinning a bit off the line when cold IMO)

I would not have been able to enjoy the corners any more than i did if i had the Bridgstones on.

It would have been a different story if it had been raining though.

I would happily use Dunlops again as Summer tyres if i needed a replacement set, but they would need to be 'half' (edit) the Retain Price that they do sell for.

I have them all round on my octy, soon to be all round on the Fabia Vrs

I have them all round on my octy, soon to be all round on the Fabia Vrs

They are now all round on my parents Swift since most of the time its raining but since my parents don't drive a lot or hard I wasn't too worried about wear in the heat. They are fantastic in the wet but not sure if they'll wear more than normal when pushed on hot days

I had several top makes on my Mk1 but I still don't know what I'd get. With the Mk1 being heavy on the front end there wasn't a lot between them all

Our car came with Conti-Sport 2s which seem to get very hot and go a bit squirmy on the limit.

Expect wil change to Mich PS3s when I get frustrated with them.

205s seems a bit narrow for a 180hp car that is quite heavy but worried that 215/40s would invalidate in my insurance and would raise the car which is already too high as standard.

Opinion seems to very divided as to the best tyres but as VW-Audi seem to use Michelin in most their sporting endeavours it aways seems a good recommendation and we use them on the Octavia VRS and it works well on it.

The difference between 205/40 and 215/40 is 10mm of which 4mm is sidewall that’s less that the depth of the tread blocks between new 8mm and even the 3mm euro standard and only two thirds of the 6mm if you run them down to 2mm.

The other thing to do is contact your insurance company and tell them that way you know if it’s ok with them or not.

Also the tyres on the MK2 Fabia do appear to have a make or break effect on the car.

As to what is best I can only compare what I've used so far

Conti Sport Contact 3's better than the Dunlop’s but aquaplane like the Dunlop’s and they appear to be wearing faster but I can live with that.

I'll probably be trying Ultrac Sessensas next once I've had enough of the Conti’s
