Fed up!

Featured Replies

I'm fed up with not knowing what people are saying...such a shame our language has got into such a state! Please someone tell me the meaning of the following: `Btw` `IMO` `PITA`

There will undoubtedly be more as I continue "reading"

HTH = Hope that helps.

IMHO = In my humble opinion.

LOL - Laugh out loud, not lots of love. Ask DC about that one.

DC = David Cameron.

ROFL = Roll on  the floor laughing.

MY = Model Year

DC = David Cameron.

I thought DC more commonly refers to David Coulthard.

Thank you for all this. I'm better informed now and can enjoy what people are writing...though I still wish it were different and time was allowed to write words in full!

Not up with the news then!

RTFM :devil:

DC = David Cameron.

And here I thought DC meant Direct Current :giggle:

But anywhoo, there's also AFAIK, FWIW, A/S/L, AFK, FUBAR, OMG, WTF, BBQ.

To give an example of this, the OPs post could be "translated" into:

"OMGWTF i'm so fed up with not knowing what people are saying, AFAIC the english language is FUBAR"

kthxbai

:rofl:

DC = David Cameron.

Obama is in DC now. :giggle:

Yeah, that's the trouble with TLAs (Three letter abbreviations) they can mean many things. For example in Education CDC means (can mean) Curriculum Development Comittee but in automotive Engineering means Cold Driveability Chamber.

Where I work we have a TLA for vans!! They are known as OMVs (official motorised vehicles)

Yeah, there is always gonna be these abbreviations peculiar to peoples workplace and jobs...always have been. But these days for someone like me who doesn't `text` its rather difficult. I'm just gonna have to come to terms with it though.

Would `OP` mean `Original Post` by any chance?

I think it's original poster, that is the person who made the original post

Oh, and when it comes to work TLAs, we have hundreds. What makes it really 'fun' is most of them are abbreviations of the German names for stuff. You will come across a few like this to do with Skodas too. MFL is one I can think of which means Multi Function steering wheel (Lenkrad)

Just a few that get used on here (some may of been explained above)

RTFM - read the f'in manual

MY13 - Model Year 2013 (built from mid 2012 onwards).

MFSW - multi function steering wheel'

CC - cruise control.

FSH / FSSH - Full (Skoda) service history.

SWMBO - she who must be obeyed (wife / girlfriend).

DSG - direct-shift gearbox ('auto' box)

DPF - diesel particulate filter

ABS - anti-lock braking system

CR - Common-Rail fuel injection (all the later diesel engines)

PD - Pumpe Düse (older diesel engines)

ESP - electronic stability programme

ASR - anti-slip regulation traction control

HHC - Hill hold control

TPM / TPMS - tyre pressure monitoring system

FWIW - for what it's worth

AFAIK - as far as I know

HTH - hope that helps

etc etc.

Not correct in this day and age. :happy:

TLA surely stands for two letter abbreviation :p

I heard a good one on a conf call at work the other day........someone said to another guy, "JFDI'..........when I enquired as to the meaning of this four letter acronym they enlightened me that it stood for 'Just ******* Do It'

By the way - when they can be pronounced as a word, they are acronyms, when not they are abbreviations.........I think

So glad I started this...I've had a RGL (Really Good Laugh)

What does OP mean on this forum.?

Is it OT to query if this problem only affects Superb II owners as the OP's choice of forum would suggest?
