Lewis did nothing wrong there and I'm gutted for him as he's been driving very smart this season and consistently racking up the points

That was the issue for him here, he didnt drive very smart.

Pastor was wrong no doubt and i personally think the penalty was to soft. But Lewis should of let him go. He knew the pass was going to happen at some point, putting himself in a position to bang wheels when hes fighting for the title was silly.

To me saying Pastor was wrong so Lewis had the right to throw away a heap of points isnt clever thinking. Its how titles are lost.

Altough Pastor is turning out to be a real danger. Id go as far to say he should be on a warning by now and facing a ban.

I think it's para 20.4 in the sporting regulations that requires a driver to leave a full car's width between his car and the edge of the track when another driver is at least partly alongside. In what universe did Hamilton even attempt to do that? Big clue; it's not this one.

But if the defending driver, or any driver is on the racing line they are full entitled to hold that racing line. That rule you`ve just quoted as far as I understood is for drivers moving of the line to defend, ala Rosberg defending.

Paras 20.3 and 20.4:

20.3 More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off?line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.

20.4 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the

edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.

However Hamilton didn't need to do this because as I previously stated para 20.2 applies in that Maldanado had left the track, Hamilton couldn't see him so didn't need to assume he would be there; he should have joined the track in a safe manner.

That rather ignores the fact that Hamilton had run wide of the racing line in turn 13 in order to push Maldonado off the track.
