Yes, my fellow Skoda owners, there are still a few of them out there...

Featured Replies

I've had quite a few positive comments by friends and workmates about my vRS estate, but this occurred on Friday afternoon on the car park where I work...

A colleague, a guy in his early forties, was telling me about his car, and how, after only one year of ownership from new, a hole had been worn into the cloth of his driver-side "bucket seat" as he called it, due to him rubbing the lip of the seat when getting in and out - I was showing vague interest, so after work had finished, he took me outside to have a look...

I said that my seats were of a similar shape to his and as he happened to be parked next to my car, I opened my driver door and showed him.

He rubbed his fingers across the edge of the seat and commented on the nice quality of the cloth.

Looking deeper inside, he went on, " Hey, it's not bad inside is it..."

I responded positively, "I'm really pleased with it - best car I've ever owned, decent sized boot for carrying stuff,180bhp, it's fairly decent on fuel and it goes like a rocket"

He looked towards the gearstick, "Is it an automatic?"

"Semi-Automatic."

"Eh?"

"Yes, twin-clutch DSG, with gear-change paddles on the steering wheel - you can drive it in manual, auto, or a combination of both".

Taking a look at the nifty little paddles, he enthused,"Wow, I've never seen that on a steering wheel before - it's a nice car you've got there and it looks really great in white"

"I couldn't be more pleased with it", I said with a proud smile, "Glad you like it"

"Yeah....but.....erm.."

"What?", I asked.

"It's just....well....y'know...erm....that badge....I wouldn't want to be seen driving a Skoda".

With that, he jumped into his Suzuki Swift and drove off.... :giggle:

:swear: fawkin' badge snobs eh! :wall:

I got called a "scoda driver" as an insult on Facebook by a friend. My return comment of "the spelling mistake renders this insult invalid" shut him up.

people like that are the idiots, faced with the evidence they still cant get round the badge.....

did you mention how many rally skoda have won?

how they won last years intercontinental rally series, and are currently leading this years?

hhhmmmmm sounds like good car heritage to me :)

I always judge people I work with by car choice. Perhaps a little sad but I think if that is how they spend their own money it will tell me lot about how they spend will the company money.

I wasn't to keen on getting a Skoda back in 2002 but had a test drive and i love them and wouldn't buy anything else.

I think these guys are very few in numbers now. Skoda's reputation has massively improved. If people do still have this view on Skoda's then it is likely they don't have much knowledge on cars.

i know some people who are still very much badge snobs.... however ive also been pleasantly surprised by some peoples reactions re skodas.... its all down to personal preferene, its like i looked at the corsa limited edition and the fabia monte... when comparing what you get for the price skoda does seem to win the majority of the times on value for money and the cars are pretty good looking compared to some other models on the market...

Leave them remain ignorant. We know how good the cars are and that's all the matters. No reason to slag off Suzuki's though. Cheap inside but handle really well even the bog standard ones. The Sport is a revelation

Haha. When I first go tmy car I told my mate that i bought a Skoda that's it nothing more, he text back saying hahahah skoda crap.

I turned up at his house he was impressed with the looks inside/out. So I told him to get in and took him for a run (in Sports Mode) and said jeeze that's really quick i love it.

::)

They'll never learn.

But my favourite is overtaking while uphills some snob persons in 1.6 BMW 3 series or Mercedes A 140 or, or,... with my little white refrigerator.

Think about it

a. Skoda ?

b. What the... shape is this ?

c. The Skoda Van ?

LLLOOOOOVVVVEEEE it

I recently got cut up by a Toyota prius on leaving the motorway. I banged on the horn of my superb2 170 to avoid an impact (i also have a fabia sport 1.9pd). The prius driver wasn't impressed one bit and gave me a one finger salute. when we ended up next to eachother at the lights he wound his window down and shouted "a skoda beeping it's fu***ng horn at

me, you want to get a proper car mate"

I was speechless and actually burst into a laughing fit. My 18month old son was in the back and he actually started laughing his head off too!! (he is at the stage where he copies everything I do). The driver was a bit taken by the fit of laughter. I calmly asked him if he enjoyed driving his prius? I got one last reply off him, it ended with OFF!!

Yes a prius!!

have to agree there my mum has a mk1 VRS and loves overtaking these big flash cars in her skoda, best one was one trip to devon with Bluecar1 in the Roomster and he overtook an aston martin... the look on that drivers face was even better then priceless :rock:

I think it probably is a UK thing to a large extent... I've not come across such attitudes here whatsoever... On the contrary, Skodas seem to be well appreciated...

Prius you said? he 'd better saw some South Park episodes, starting from this one: http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s10e02-smug-alert f***in hilarious!!!

I'm still crying

Random fact: A Prius was the first car I ever overtook after passing my test. Felt great at the time in my Astra

Ive had two comments, one bloke said he couldnt drive a car with a Skoda badge on.... he has a Seat Leon. The other was from a woman I know who said she will only buy VW cars.... ffs! Her daughter needed a car that was easy to get in and out of, she has a bad heart and everyone suggested a Yeti. The girl liked it, but wouldnt have one with a Skoda badge, and her Mum flatly refused it.... they bought a Mercedes B class. The girl doesnt like it, some people eh?

I didn't really get the opportunity to say anything more - I was stunned into silence. It's not as if he was joking with me, he was deadly serious. He was clearly impressed by what he saw, but the fact it was a Skoda meant that he would never put one on his driveway!

As it happens, it was the Sport model. Even that model appeared cheap inside. I was somewhat surprised though that a guy that drives a Suzuki could be so predjudiced against the Skoda brand - I blame his parents.

When I was discussing my new car choices with my wife, she was of the "I won't be seen dead in a Skoda" attitude. Begrudgingly, she came with me to the local dealer for a proper look round my shortlist (of Skodas - Fabia vRS and Octavia SE Plus). After about 15 minutes, she was converted - and we hadn't even been out in one....she then decided on the one that was out of my range (strict financials imposed) - Octavia vRS Estate in Racing Blue as it did look nice in the showroom...

She can't wait for the Scirocco to be replaced with the vRS Estate now...and even asked again what colour i'd ordered this evening

Random fact: Prius is the first car that made me violently vomit at first sight

Was thinking about this a bit nore and then realised that I feel the same about Hyundia and Kia. Ned to go and test one to cure myself.
