That's Odd....

I do agree though that both mirrors being able to move at once is a good feature.

Its a bit like both front wiper blades moving together too, isn't it? I am not a fan of the VAG electric wing mirror switch - much prefer L switches which operate L thingies and R switches which operate R thingies. rolleyes.gif

On the other hand, it depends how often you actually need to adjust the bloody things!!!

when i had my octy, i hardly ever used the feature.

i practically never changed the right mirror and the toggle was always pointing to the left for any changes for parking.

Mine spends most of the winter left on the "heater" position. Occasionally move it off that when the weather's warm...

I think there is definately some paranormal goings on within the VAG group. Anyone know the phone number of a good medium??

Hmm. Independant wiper blades...

I wonder if there's an undiscovered market there. Its a bit like that Honda advert which says if you're not using something, why should it be on. If I'm looking straight-on, why clear the left hand side of the screen? What a waste of energy... :D

Better still - those spinning disk thingies they have on ships, instead of wiper blades.

As an added benefit, with a powerful enough motor you could probably launch any unwelcome squeegee merchants into orbit...

The BMW 5-series, 7series, Renault Clio, Nissan Almera Tino and Peugeot 206 do the opposite of this. Why clear the drivers side, give the passengers a nice view- thats the only explaination for putting wipers on the wrong way round! Apart from te fact the were too lasy to bothher enginering wiper points for RHD cars!

I've noticed something strange going on with the one touch drivers leccy window on the Octy. If you fully open the window using the one touch facility it works just dandy. But then after a couple of one touch operations (i.e. up and down) I go to put the window fully up, the window lifts to the 3/4 position then stops and goes all the way down again of it's own accord

Trouble is the one touch facility doesn't work anymore until the next time the ignition is switched on and the whole cycle repeats itself (2 x  )

Anyone got any ideas - I thought maybe the switch is knackered or my car is suffering some form of poltergeist activity. Trouble is I can't be bothered with the hassle of an exorcism or going back to the dealers...

My cousin Octavia 2002 has the same problem. They replace the window motor under guarantee and the problem was fixed. The Skoda Factory knows about this problem. Make sure they put the correct NEW window motor or you will end with the same problem.

Come on people, you drive on the wrong side! :D :D :D

Are you by any chance trying to be controversial, Isaac? Have you been communicating secretly with Dutch4X4 (Mattijs)? Is this a plot by our overseas members to destabilise Briskoda? Eh? grumpy.gif

It's called the "comfort package". If you don't have it, R moves the right and L the left mirror ONLY. If you do, driver's mirror adjustment also adjusts passenger's mirror.

As for the wiper blades position, they should be such that they first wipe drivers side. However not all manufacturers bother with changing that for RHD cars, and as such RHD drivers are left with the less clean side :( Not a problem for us LHD though.

As for who's driving in the wrong side, I'd say both. I had a LHD car in the UK for 9 years and a RHD in Greece for 3. This is the best combination, and apart from overtaking on narrow roads (heck, don't do it it's safer ;)) it's 100% easier to drive, park, ask people directions, get in/out of car etc.

I agree. Its also easier when driving in fog - you can follow the kerb and the cats-eyes - and, in the event of a having a collision with a vehicle coming the other way, you stand a better chance of surviving than your passenger. eek.gif Its not so good for toll booths or ticket machines in multi-storey car parks, though.

I've a vague idea that one of the Italian sports car makers (Lancia?) stuck to RHD until comparatively recently, on the supposition that it was better for the driver of a performance car to have a good view of the roadside.

Similarly, I believe that buses and trucks which regularly use some of the Alpine passes were (still are?) RHD, to give the driver a better view of the verge. Going over the edge is a bigger risk than a head-on collision :)

And our road sweeping trucks are LHD. Doubtless there are plenty of other examples too (not including Eismann food delivery vans which are LHD for a different reason).

This tends to be the older ones, which were imported directly from

Germany. Nowadays it's quite possible to get them as RHD:

Do we need to know why you have pictures of road-sweepers, or did you google? :D

I just went to Schmidt's website! :p

The reason you lot drive on the left is because Nepolian was left handed and because of this struggled to draw his sword to anybody coming the other way, so he changed it round and the Europeans followed suit. Sweeden used to be on the left until the 60's right?

Presumably for cleaning the right (offside) kerb of one way streets? :p

Reading through this thread I think a moderator should change the title to "That's to be expected...", as I noticed the odd window up/down behaviour too. I always put it down to user-error, but now I know it is probably a 'design' feature...

As I drive with AC on almost all of the time I hardly ever open the windows, so it is not that annoying really...

Must have been some other foreign entity, Denis. Perhaps our Swedish friends who want to exchange secret messages through Briskoda that you can't moderate...

I've always said you drive on the fun side anyway. :D

I think LHD road sweepers are a deliberate choice to enable drivers to get close into the gutters. I've not taken a huge amount of notice, but have definitely seen RHD sweepers in LHD countries.

 Why are they LHD? AFAIK, Asda, Tesco, Iceland, etc. all manage with ordinary RHD vans.

BTW: US Postal Service vans are RHD, so that the driver doesn't have to get out to put mail in the mailboxes along the street.

Maybe it's so when they stop right in the way somewhere, the driver can nip out to the house without having to dodge the traffic squeezing past his van?
