That's Odd....

Featured Replies

I've noticed something strange going on with the one touch drivers leccy window on the Octy. If you fully open the window using the one touch facility it works just dandy. But then after a couple of one touch operations (i.e. up and down) I go to put the window fully up, the window lifts to the 3/4 position then stops and goes all the way down again of it's own accord

Trouble is the one touch facility doesn't work anymore until the next time the ignition is switched on and the whole cycle repeats itself (2 x  )

Anyone got any ideas - I thought maybe the switch is knackered or my car is suffering some form of poltergeist activity. Trouble is I can't be bothered with the hassle of an exorcism or going back to the dealers...

Sounds like you've got gremlins!

There have been a couple of threads about resetting the windows - try a search for "window limit" or similar and see how you do.

Alternatively, wait for Big K to come and help! :D

The resetting procedure is covered on page 15 of the Owner's Manual. I have been having a similar problem but I suspect it may be a case of user error on my part.

Ever had the thoroughly confusing situation where the controls for the left & right front windows somehow get reversed? i.e. the lefthand button opens the driver's window and the righthand button the passengers?

Hmmm. Thanks guys will look into it in bit more detail. Failing that anyone know a good priest??

Imagine the confusion if you pressed the drivers button and the passenger side rear window opened!!

That would be really confusing!

Probably because I don't have electric rear windows... :D:rofl::D

Jimmy,

I had exactly the same problem with my vRS drivers window. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the motor under warranty. It works fine now.

They did get the wrong motor to begin with, but we got there in the end!

Cheers,

Keoghan

I've got the same problem. I've taken the bloody car to the dealers 5 times now and they just can't fix it. They reckon they have replaces the lifter motor, trap sensors and checked the tightness of the rubber either side of the window but it keeps doing it! Grrrrrrrrr!

And to think I didn't know I have a problem! I wasn't anticipating visiting a dealer with my car until its 2 years old. :(

Both my Octy's did this. The fact that it winds back down again suggests that the lcrush sensor is activating. I had motors changed on both cars to no effect. I've got a vague memory of seeing something somewhere about the dealer needing to change the ECU settings to increase motor current, but I blowed if I can find it......

Phil

Snap, mine has the same problem. Been to 3 different dealers, all have tried to fix it, none can. Having lived with it for 90,000 miles I guess I've just got used to it.

my lh mirror moves with the rh button position if that counts...

That's a design feature! :D

Rob.

Maybe I missed the toungue in cheek nature, but that's by design. And very useful I find it, too :)

It's supposed to, isn't it?

The two positions on my mirror control (apart from the heater) are; "L" - which moves the LH mirror only, and "L + R" - which moves both mirrors at once.

Given that the switch would have probably been simpler if it just had "L" and "R" to adjust the mirrors independently, I wonder why Skoda chose this particular configuration. Suggestions, anyone?

yep, you cant adjust the rh mirror by itself. adjusting that moves the lh one as well. then adjust the lh one afterwards

its bloody stupid / annoying... no wonder they cant fix it?

It's a feature throughout VAG. It makes adjusting the mirrors alot easier if someone else has been driving.

My switch just has L and R on it. No such freaky combinations as yours :D

Mine has L, heated, and R as options. Just when it's on the R, it moves the left mirror too.

Are you sure yours doesn't too Nick? :D

Rob.

Thought it was so you could adjust the mirrors if you were doing some tricky reversing, or change them to your preferred setting after someone else had dared change them!

I use the feature regularly. I have an allocated space at work and if I arrive early I need to park evenly between lines with no other cars as guides. With the mirror switch in R position it makes it easy to dip them both so that I can position myself accurately without having to lean out of windows. And, of course, both are raised at once, too. Excellent design idea IMO - reverse into space using the mirrors, wait for the "flatline" (I love parking sensors) , job done :)

Mark

Mark - I adopt the "have the door open a bit" method. Doesn't help with the left hand side though unless you're Mr Tickle, with a neck like a giraffe!

I do agree though that both mirrors being able to move at once is a good feature.

It being lunch time, and more importantly, it having stopped raining, I have just been out to the car and investigated. Sure enough on "R" it moves both mirrors. How jolly irritating! So every time I've adjusted the right-hand mirror, I've unwittingly been putting the left one out of adjustment .... ... and no doubt looking at the left one some time later and thinking "must adjust that", and so on ad infinitum ... bloody smartarse car designers ... mumble, mumble ....
