Auto dimming exterior mirror problem

Featured Replies

After 6 weeks of ownership I had my first nocturnal motorway drive last night. I have the auto-dimming rear mirror option and the internal mirror works fine but the door mirrors don't seem to dim at all. I'm used to the effect having had it on my last car where only the drivers door mirror dimmed.

Wording in the manual suggests that both door mirrors should dim on the Superb. Has anyone got any suggestions before I get the dealer to have a look. Switching off/on showed a slow gradual change for the internal mirror but absolutely no effect for the exterior mirrors.

UK spec cars are not available with auto dimming exterior mirrors, although it appears in the manual.

I was disappointed too...

I am very surprised at that as it is in the manual though I have not had the chance to test that the door mirrors are not dmming as well.

In OZ, the door mirrors dim as well, you can tell as the edge of the mirror (about 5mm)stays silver and the rest of the mirror goes green like the interior mirror.

Agreed, I've had an Audi and currently a Mini with this, and there is always this kind of surround to the door mirror. In the UK we only get an Interior Auto dimming mirror option, which is actually quite cheap. So I wasn't expecting auto dimming door mirrors, but was surprised that they are in the owners manual. I would have happily paid more for door mirrors to auto dim, but Skoda UK don't offer it.

Anybody have an idea if there's a sound reason for this or is it just a **** decision by SUK???

I cannot think of a single good reason for this and it's really going to annoy especially on the motorway at night. What about retrofitting at least the drivers mirror?

The only place I have found reference to this is in the owner's manual - it is not in the sales brochure or listed as a UK option. As it is not there, and usually this is their [Dealers / Skoda UK] initial point of reference, I guess that it never was intended for the UK market.

It would be nice to have, but not holding my breath as to whether Skoda UK are liable in any way to retrofit it.

Maybe it's because of the UK laws, maybe they are not legal in UK.You can easily retrofit it,you just need the mirrors and 2 wires for each one,it's a 20 min job. Also,if you want to check if you have it or not, just point something bright, like the phone blitz to that sensor located on the interior mirror. In 2-3 seconds they will be green.

Well, I am driving one in India and the exterior mirrors dim perfectly. So its a UK specific issue.

I know someone with a standard spec. Passat and the side mirrors dim -I'd assume it's just penny pinching

Awh Bloody hell!!!

So was just my imagination.....

I am sure my Ocy III Elegance with every option going had it?

Will check with an indetermiante spin later down to the Chili pickle (Diet is going well by the way).

Bugger!

Right, were is the barstareeed Salesman!!!!

Any chance of sharing How to? and part numbers for the mirrors?

Thanks

Regarding the wires, you must run 2 wires from mirror to the door controller, but I can't tell you which connector/pin.You can find them by looking at someone elses door.

Nothing to do with UK laws, afaik. My last car (Vectra) had dimming drivers door mirror, as well as the interior mirror. They just didn't do the passenger door mirror just because it's further away from the driver and the dazzle problem is much smaller.

thanks infoschumi

Appologies to all!!!!!

I can confirm (having actually driven home at night on Friday from London and looked at the exteriror mirrors)

my car does come with auto dimming mirrors.

If you look around them you can see a black border.

Glad to hear.

I'd better ask my dealer why mine don't work then...interesting what you say...when you say 'black border' do you mean a black plastic border. On my last car (Vectra) only the driver's mirror was auto dimming and only the driver's mirror had a black plastic surround (I always wondered why, doh!).

Does anyone else have door mirrors with a black plastic surround on the glass?
