Octavia VRs Headlights

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new to all this so please fogive me if I sound a bit strange. I have just purchased an 08 VRS estate with HID headlights unfortunatley the inside of the headlight (chrome) is badly discoloured - in fact they let the rest of the car down....The car was MOT'd by the garage and passed with flying colours.

Ideally I want to replace them but can't afford dealer prices and after checking what feels like all scrap dealers and Ebay am no further forward (cost and availability).

I have three / four questions

Has anyone else experienced this problem, if so what was your solution?

DOes anyone know where I can purchase HID headlights (OEM or aftermarket) that won't break the bank?

Is it possible to convert the car back from HID to H7 - If so hard is it?

Thanks for reading

I suspect we will be "visiting" headlamp problems quite often as time goes by, on a visit to the dealers I noticed water in the headlamps of an octavia, I was told it had just been jet washed

...oh thats ok then is it?

Hi all - Thanks for looking, unfortunatley my paitence, or lack of it got the better of me so I decided in my majesty, things had to change - I couldn't leave the my shiny Vrs as it was........ 1 inch of water in two headlights.......

I found a company on Ebay (not sure of the rules on advertising so if any one wants the name please feel free to ask) who could supply nice shiny new after market headlights with black inserts rather than chrome. I found another company who could supply a HID conversion kit, with all the part delivered within 24 Hrs. I then sat back took stock and thought - "whats the worst that can happen".

Having not worked on car for over 10 years - I must admit its one of the easiest jobs I have ever completed - I have changed the lights replumbed in new HID ballast an am pleased to report every thing is now working as it should.

Main dealer price for one headlight approx £400 + vat + fitting - DIY all in £190 (time 1 1/2 hours) = result....

Great Forum.....
