New vRS owner, tyre advice needed

Featured Replies

Has anyone used Bridgestone Potenza RE050s ?

They came as OEM on my L&K estate. they were noisy and the rears got noisier as they sawtoothed. Ended up replacing all 4 after 12000 miles as the inner edges on the rears had worn right down. Now got Eagle F1 2's and no complaints so far.

The RE050s obviously don't get on well with Skodas then!

its going for servicing on Saturday and they'll put Nankang NS2s on which were great on my old skud...

What was your old Skoda? For a vRS I'd consider something a bit better to be honest.

There's review information about them here and the overall review scores don't fill me with confidence: http://www.tyrerevie...Nankang/NS2.htm

My old workhorse was a 2001 Octavia TDI estate Elegance - I know there's a difference in cars, but the NS2s were fine on that, they're also used for running around (usually sideways) on my Beemer when it's not on track.

I trust them, I know when they're gonna lose traction, and my VRS spends over 80% of its life on the motorway.

At just over £50 a corner, they're quite reasonable - Pirelli P Zero £135.90, Toyo T1 Sport £91.95, Avon ZZ3 (snappy in the wet) £89.95, Conti SC3 (which the VRS came with) £108.80... All prices from Camskill.

I don't need the extra performance or expense when I'm doing approximately 30k privately, all my spare cash is going in the Porsche fund! ;)

PS3s all round on mine, £427 delivered from Camskill and £48 to fit them brought total to £475. They're quieter than the Dunlops they replaced and have far better traction too.

Got Hankook Ventus V12 Evos on my vRS. Not too noisy. Good grip in wet and dry. £120 fitted.

I have heard Falken 452 tyres are very good.

Aren't most tyres summer tyres? Didn't think there was much need for winter tyres in the UK.

Just had 2 new tyres fitted yesterday, hankook s1 evo2 k117 £102 a corner..

Had them because of the great reviews....

And price !

Potenzas £128.30 each fitted. (Costco Watford)

I've seen other tyres on offer (etyres/blackcircles/camskill) but its finding something that has good grip (wet/dry) and low noise levels ?

Gyear eagle f1 as2.

They have a far better wear rate than mich ps3 and a better price. My mich have done 32 k with 3 mm left. Impressive, but the Goodyear has 4mm left. GY the cheaper tyre and longer lasting with better reviews. 8 weeks waiting list to get my size last time I checked. Says it all. Don't go cheap, go better quality and buy less otherwise its a false economy and your cheating your Vrs and your driving experience. The reason you have a Vrs in the first place. Buy cheap tyres and you might as well get a cheap crap car to match. Gys were 135 a pop but if they last for over 40k each that's money we'll spent.

If you are getting 40k out of a set of tyres then you must be cheating your vRS :giggle:

I see what your saying, but I bought my VRS to do 50ish mpg on my weekly commute but can also overtake rather easily, which it does... As I said, it doesn't get thrown around corners - if you want a proper driving experience, get a RWD car, that's where the fun is!

Use goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2's as well, great tyres.

+1

My '10 vRS came with Conti SC2 from the factory, I replaced those with a set of SC3 which are a better tyre than the SC2 IMO. I've since replaced those with a set of GY Assymetric 2 which are even better again. I'd recommend these GYs 100% based on my experience plus they have won a bunch of magazine tyre tests.
