Rear Passenger Door Not Unlocking

Featured Replies

Apolgies if this topic has been covered before.

I have an 04 plate VRS and recently i have found that the rear drivers side passenger door will not unlock.

As everyone knows, one press on the key fob unlocks the driver door, 2 presses opens all doors, or it should but the rear passenger door stays locked while the rest are open.

If you hold open the inner door handle while pressing the unlock button, be it on the key fob or the unlock button on the drivers door, then it will most times unlock. You can hear a 'click' from something in the door when it does unlock.

However, once it is locked the whole problem starts again.

Before i go pulling the car apart, is this a known fault or does anyone know what is causing it?

I would appreciate any help or advice as i've got an MOT due soon.

Thanks in advance.

my rear passenger door does this too.. i have to press the lock/unlock buttons on my drivers door card repeatedly then the button on the rear door twitches then it opens on the next press.. not looked at it properly yet but will await a response on here hopefully its an easy fix..

This may be the deadlock about to seize up. I would recommend you strip the door down and lubricate the lock or replace it as it's a real b*****r to get the door open if it locks up permanently. Involves hammer and chisel and other instruments of destruction.

If you here a click, leas it means the lock mech is firing, so...first thing to do is pull the handle out when the car is locked andcheck te bowden cable and its position, compare it to the other doors and make sure there identical!

If tey arent the same, stick a flat screwdriver in a lever it further away into the door, if they are the samethen ul need to strip the door down dude!

Thanks for the replies gents.

I've tried to run a load of spray 3 in 1 into the lock mechanism but this doesn't seem to have helped much.

I've also had a fiddle with the cable adjustment on the back of the outside handle but once again this didn't seem to have much effect.

Might have to give up and let the 'stealer' have a look!

If ur close to edinburgh id do it

mine's started this this morning the git! just after i fixed the leaking rear door seals and replaced the plastic rivets.

This is why I recommended sorting it while you can still get the door open.

Ancient thread revival. Can someone indicate (pref by pic) which is the part that needs sorting please?

I'm having this issue (the door will open using the handle inside). It's irrating at the min as my daughter sits on that side but dant want it to lock shut in the future.

anyone?

Right pull the exterior handle as if to open and on the side you will see a recess with a cable in now check this is the same as the other doors!
