Sunroof doesnt work. thing to check?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just got a mk2 octavia pre FL 05. Picked it up saturday, and so far touch wood its great!

The only thing that isnt perfect is the sunroof, -it doesnt work. Turn the switch and nothing happens. It seems that not many even have sunroofs. So can anyone give me some pointers to see whats wrong. From fuse upwards.

Cheers

Is it making a noise?

nope nothing

Try to remove the switch and using a Multimeter see if there is power being delivered there. Could be a wiring/switch fault to begin with.

Always check the fuse first!

Yup, go with the fuse first.

If there's no power when you check the electrical connections TO the motor, it'll be wiring/relay, if there IS power to it but there's no noise or activity when you turn the knob, it's likely to be the motor. Seems obvious, but there you go.

If you disconnect the spindle parts between the sunroof and motor and it stops halfway back when you put it back to together or doesn't house/open as it should, hit the alarm button for a few seconds to automate the full closure function and in my experience it resets/synchs up the positions to closed.

The fuse is good, would have been good if thats all it was.

I took out the SR switch and had a look. There is an extra dangling plug, anyone know what thats for?

Unless i can check any other things it might be garage time. or buy a multimeter...

It connects to the Sun Roof Controller as follows:

Thanks for the photo hell666.

Ive descovered the problem, its missing the motor and the bolts! just a blank space! typical as its the one thing i didnt check when buying. There would be no reason to remove it would there?! So hopefully when i stick a new one in there it'll be fine

lmao, that is funny!

Now we know there not jokeing on wheeler dealers when they say check everything. I dont even know what to say to the fact the whole motor os missing. bet the last owner must have been rubbing there hands after you left with the car.

Got it from an independant, so they might help me out. I dont mind sorting out niggles with new cars provided i got it for a good price. You just dont expect there to be an empty space where a bit of kit should be!

Hi there,

I've got an update, the garage i bought the car from have been great. Sent me a new VAG motor and bolts.-cant say fairer than that Now for another very basic question!

The blue plug connects straight into the motor. Then there is a black cable that comes attached to the motor. Anyone know what this connects to? Thanks

Is there nothing on the control unit itself that that fits into??

I too would have thought it connected back to the switch as it seems to be a short cable

i cant see anywhere on the sunroof switch panel or the alarm panel. Although this thread is asking for incredibly simple advice, i'm not too bad at car stuff would you believe.

I haven't got a sunroof so can't help much more, sorry.

If you take out the interior light / sunroof switch panel is there nothing obvious to connect it to?

  • Author
