Any know if these will work with no errors as stated?

Sadly not - tried a pair last week and they flagged an error within minutes of the headlights coming on.  I've used them to replace the vanity mirror lights instead.

Cheers,

I've been following this thread with interest for s while as I have been thinking about replacing mine. Ive now gotaa pplate light out so what better time. However, im now trying to justify spending about £18 instead if £1!! Seen a set of LED bulbs in halfords but they don't have any resistors, does this mean that they will more than likely throw up an error?

More than likely.

I've now got a pair of these:

http://www.xenons4u.co.uk/led-bulbs/8-36mm-festoon-led-high-power-3-smd-bulbs.html

which didn't work either, but in conjunction with the resistors below they work fine:

2x LED CANBUS NO ERROR LOAD RESISTOR 4w 5w 6w W5W T10 T4W BA9S H6W BAX9S FESTOON

I wasn't keen on the idea of splicing these resistors into the feed to the lights so I soldered them to ring connectors which can then squeeze between the bulb and the holder at both ends.  The end result is neat inside and looks good outside - I'm glad I persevered...

Just to confirm, I got this set from seller djgenius10 on eBay ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130948016491 )

They come with 2 license plate lights (18 LEDs in each),2 massive resistors and 2 wiring looms.

Everything clicked together very good, and the light is very VERY bright white. Maybe even a tad too bright, hope the local constabulary don't take offence. But as a product, it appears to be very well made and well built. Shipping was about 3 days from Ire to Belgium. Time will tell if they last, but so far: highly recommended!

Well, after trying to decide whether to go led or stick with original bulbs. Ive decided to stick with original. The deciding factor was price. Instead of led's costing £18, I got my standard bulbs(X2) in Halfords for 48p using my trade card.

Here are the photos of the LED lights

was just wondering if they are just for the estate or can be fitted to the twindoor, because i think the twindoor ones are screwed

has anyone tried these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120665552747

I have contacted the seller and he says they should fit. I'm just wandering if they are not going to be too bright as they are 18led.

Installed VW OEM led licence plate lights. Part no. is 1K8943021 and its a plug and play retrofit. Got a blown bulb warning light also (need to disable the licence plate light check). Wanted OEM led lights to avoid unhealthy attention from police and during the MOT.

Got the idea from here (includes pictures) - http://www.areavag.com/foro/showthread.php?27431-Leds-OEM-matr%EDcula-Passat-3c

Handily, it makes it really hard to actually read your number plate at night with LEDs! :)

So has anyone managed to get these to work on a TD?

  • 1 year later...

Thought i would dig this thread up so as to ask a quick question rather than starting another LED thread.....

Anyway... I've tried the CANBUS LED bulbs in the numberplate lights on my TwinDoor and even with the LED numberplate option ticked with VCDS the warning still shows.... So would these be ok to solder across the terminals of the festoon bulb holder???? Or if not what wattage/ohmage should i be looking for???

Hallo

I am new here

I have a superb 2014 year, and i change my licence plate number lights to VW OEM led licence plate lights. And now i have a problem. The car show me bulb warning light.

I have a ODIS program. but i didnt know how to chane the standart bulbs to led bulbs. I think the ODIS is the like VCDS

Mayby anybody can help me?

I think it is byte 17 bit 7 via vcds

Cam you say all the way how to do what.

I think i must go to 09 block (central electric), when go to security acces and enter 31347 and than coding or adaptation?

ODIS is very powerful and should only be used by those that have at least a basic understanding of what they are doing. In the wrong hands it can easily break modules...

At your own risk, I think you'll need to do the following if I remember correctly:

- start ODIS

- choose an appropriate project

- open controller 09

- choose something like 'coding'

- select byte 17 and enable bit 7

I don't think you need a security code for this.

Thank you langers2k

Maiby can i find somwhere what all byte and bit meens?

Sure, buy VCDS ;)

Rosstech have spend a lot of time and money trying to find out what each byte/bit does and adding descriptions which are shown in VCDS.

VAG have no interest in adding any more detail to ODIS as a dealer should only be using the coding functions as instructed. Retrofitting isn't something VAG care about.

Now i have a big problem.

Today i tried to enable bit 7. When i did this in my car became more 2 problems. My daytime runing lights gone and always flash reverse gear light.

And now i dont knew how to reset everything back

You might want to add exactly what you've done.

What was the initial value of byte 17?

What did you change byte 17 to?

Did you touch byte 18 at any point?

Any fault codes?

Initial value of byte 17 is 70. like a picture.  I tried to change to 07. But nothing changed.

When i do a little mistake and add a new byte between 17 and 19. It is byte 18. Shown in picture 2.

Then i deleted this byte and then happened problems.

Firstly, you should learn about decimal, hexadecimal (hex) and binary numbers.

The original byte 17 in hex was 70, this translates to 01110000 in binary.

In binary, they are shown in highest to lowest (bit 7 to bit 0) so changing bit 7 will change 01110000 to 11110000.

Translating 11110000 back to hex gives F0 for byte 17.

You used hex 07 which is 00000111 in binary so you actually changed bits 0, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.

Secondly, when you added a byte I expect you change byte 18 from 00 to some other value (07?).

This is probably what's messed up your DRL and maybe some other lighting too. Byte 18 controls the lighting configuration of the car and if it's set to 00 it means it's not possible to restore the lighting configuration by changing byte 18 back to 00.

Are you using ODIS-s (service) or ODIS-e (engineering)?
