Minor problems with 7P6 Bluetooth installation.

Featured Replies

Can anyone help please?

I fitted a used 7P6 ... E bluetooth module using a new CarSystem.pl loom and on the whole it works as expected. I can make calls, phonebook (from iPhone 3Gs transfers correctly), etc.

However there are two things bugging me:

Firstly, I cannot get Voice Control to work! I have coded it all in using VCDS and have activated 'Voice control' in two places but it still doesn't work. When I press the microphone button she says 'The guidance system is inactive' - exactly the same as prior to the instal.

The loom I have has three connectors for the microphone (see picture)

When supplied, and in an email to my query, CarSystems had D (microphone) connected to C (back to the car - presumably then back the BT module). They didn't say whether A & B should be connected together or not.

According to the picture and Google translate 'onhe' means 'without' and 'mit' means with. So I connected it as per the writing, no difference.

According to the My GTI website article I can connect direct to pins 7 & 1 which is where 'A' goes for sure (option 1), but I can't then work out what 'B' & 'C' are connected to to see if it is option 2.

Whichever way I connect it voice control does not work and I get an 'Open Circuit' fault in VCDS scans which I cannot find on Ross Tech or elsewhere:

I have cleared the fault and it always comes back usually with the car data present.

Has anyone had this loom and got Voice Control working? Or is it my module that doesn't support voice control?

The second issue is quite trivial in comparison:

Does 'Audio Streaming' mean that the head unit (a Columbus) will just select a song to play at random from the phones store?

If I want to select a song / folder / playlist to use do I have to select it on the phone manually and 'push' it to the head unit?

When you press the 'Media' button, bluetooth audio shows there, but pressing the soft button does nothing. When pressing the others (CD, SD, etc.) it goes to a menu of the contents. Am I hoping it will do something that it basically won't do?

If anyone has any information on either of these issues, I'd be most grateful.

On mine I had to swap the connections around when I received it from CarSystems, i.e. despite what is said, it wasn't properly pre-wired for voice control.

I'm not sure about the letters, but all the connections which can be made should be made with the microphone clipped into the back of the Columbus and not the BT module. This might help: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/238482-fit-handsfree-to-columbus/page__hl__+voice%20+control#entry2838344

Just don't do what I did and screw the light back up through the mic wiring!!

Thanks Adam.

I had already seen your thread. Oops!

I'll fit it with the wiring as you suggest (that made more sense to me looking at the My GTI info).

It may be a coding of module issue. Strange because making calls works (so mic works). It would be nice to have voice command working though.

7P6...E does support voice control, so I need to look elsewhere now to solve the problem.

And two people say that I need to uh the mic into the HU (pins 1 & 7) using the plugs and join the others together.

With those sorted it must be either a coding issue or a user problem!

And media streaming is either random tracks (if selected from head unit) or selected from the phone and 'pushed' to the HU.

Pity as I could have sold my MDI unit!

Come to think of it there was some reference to voice control in the coding I had to do, although as I recall it was already set as active. But perhaps yours is set as inactive?

I found two references to voice control - one in the BT module and one in central electrics (I think that's where it was).

I'll check at some point to make sure.

Just to clarify though (and rule out user error), if I press the mic button on the Columbus should she go quite and await a vocal command?

When I had the Columbus first it was on a 2xxx firmware and I remember pressing the mic button and she would, after a pause, say something about voice command not recognised.

Since upgrading to 3xxx and now to 4xxx she says something along the lines of 'Navigation not active'.

Am I using it right and expecting it to do the right thing?

hi i nstalled the hole bluetooth module last mónth and everything works perfect, except i havnt tried yet streaming music anyway microphone has to be connected only on the back of the columbus and the loop kit redirects it to the bluetooth ,and you have 2 options in regards to the microphone with full voice control and partial if you have done the full then your problem is the coding,if you are still have problems let me know

.........i Connect according to the picture 'mit' means with, and works perfect, if that helps as i was in doubts like .

When I press the microphone button she says 'The guidance system is inactive' which means it is not activated in coding.

PLEASE REMEBER THAT WITH EVERY CODE CHANGE THAT YOU HAVE TO REBOOT YOUR COLUMBUS FOR THE CHANGES TO TAKE PLACE IN YOUR CODING ,have you been rebooting after the code change???

Edited by john123

I think i get a bong, and it awaits a command. No voice message if all ok...

Thanks people. It seems pretty clear now how to connect the mic and other cables together. I'll make sure that's how I left them and look again at the coding.

On this occasion I had done a few reboots - at least I think I did! Do I remember correctly that you press <, > & eject at the same time?

If its not that, then 'no'.

That is a reboot yes

Same combination on mine, I bought the kit from carsystems.pl and wired the Mic direct to the BT module initially as I had a Bolero. When I swapped the Bolero, I then changed the in-line plugs on their loom so that I now have the Mic plugged into the cable that goes towards the Colombus and the cable out of the Columbus plugs into the cable that goes towards the phone module.

Voice control works fine for me.
