I don't think the JTDm fwd would make the best of all the power and torque - might torque steer into a ditch

Personally I would like an Alfa 159 with the 210PS 2.4 JTDm engine and I'm not bothered if it doesn't make 300bhp.

but re map the 335 and its back to running rings round the 330........

  • Title says sportiest, but an A8 is not sporty. Do you mean fastest or most powerful? BMW 535d for me. Not that I'd buy a BMW though. Don't like the brand image.

  • I know of bmw 135d that races nurburgring

BMW 640d, my old man had one on test dam that's a fast car!

335D no contest.

I wonder if a remapped 335d can take 500+ lb ft through the rear wheels without spinning them in the first 3 gears - and that's in the dry!

high power =/= sporty.

Sporty is about feel, not just acceleration.

BMW's biturbo diesel is a real character... actually sounds good, has amazing torque and power, and is still frugal. As far as diesel cars go, the 'sportiest' one would probably be a 335d.

However- the New Audi A7 BiTDi could also be a contender... 315(?)bhp, 480lb/ft. Apparently TG Magazine were ****ing off the driver of a Lexus IS F in one. Not as fluid feeling as the BMW though.

It depends if you want 'fast' or 'sporty'. Someone else mentioned the 123d- I'd say that's the one to go for if you find a 335d too heavy/lacking sparkle.

There was also the R8 TDi... don't know if that's still happening though.

I like the 335d, but to be honest, I think the Jag XF 3.0 diesel is better for a sporty image.

Diesel with more than 300hp?

That leaves only the bigger lumps of metall. Not sporty in my opinion.

Fast in a straight line yes, but far too heavy to be sporty.

(I like those, as I am more the autobahndriver)

Dont forget you're on Booskoda where the sportiness is measured solely by the amount of boost your turbo is giving.

Although it only has an auto box as far as I'm aware, which might be where the older 330 was nice.

U sayin mah free fousant ****i nawt enuf lyke?

35d is a good car shame they give some trouble tho with the turbos

Hi, the 300d is a good suggestion and I think it's possible to get them mapped near 300 bhp - what about the rear wheel traction?

300 bhp could include a remap to widen the options

The a7 would be better at putting the power down and I have seen remapped figures near 400bhp.

It's a rare second hand car though.

Maybe not what you're after ;)

Went to Wings and Wheels today.........fantastic day......Aston Martins, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus etc.

I went too, but didn't see many sporty diesels going up the runway...

Not sporty but quick:

New A6 bi-turbo, in a drag it won't be far behind me and I consider my car quick.

Be pretty quick modified to 390bhp , see THIS link

The BiTurbo has 313 bhp as standard, upgraded versions should be able to do 360bhp or more.

Biggest problem is the transmission, it will not cope with too much more than the std 650Nm.

As with a lot of Audi diesels, they only supply a transmission that can just about handle std torque.

(as in my pre face lifted car the transmission coped with up to 450Nm, which it had std. And the

facelifted C6 has a transmission that can cope with 500Nm, and guess what. Yep that is what

the engine has std.)

I already had a demonstrator for a whole day. Goes like stink and especially the newer 8 speed auto

is a gem. It can be driven very economically and fast if wanted. It does about 2200rpm in 8 at 125mph.

I thought VAG cars were generally over engineered, I remember I tuned a fabia with the 177 lb ft / 5 speed engine to 300 lb ft

There is a 5 series called the M550d but is not available in the UK.
