but re map the 335 and its back to running rings round the 330........

  • Title says sportiest, but an A8 is not sporty. Do you mean fastest or most powerful? BMW 535d for me. Not that I'd buy a BMW though. Don't like the brand image.

  • I know of bmw 135d that races nurburgring

A5 3.0 TDi Quattro for me

Toureg with the 5 litre diesel perhaps? 350hp 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, 150 mph.

Been watching the R18s going round Silverstone today.

Not sporty as called a prototype and an endurance car?

Went to Wings and Wheels today.........fantastic day......Aston Martins, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus etc.

err... sportiest diesel car? :wonder:

None of those are particularly sporty IMO. They are more a bunch of GT's/ Executive runabouts IMO. A 330d manual with a re-map would run rings around a 335d

Of those though, I'd say the Audi...but sporty?.... Understeer as default!

Porsche Panamera (running on Derv) must be in the running.

 My thoughts exactly!

Sporty in what terms? I`m guessing you mean looks, since you could just "look up" the fastest or most powerful. If thats the case, i`d go with either a 335d or TT (not saying its amazing, but its a diesel and a sporty looking car) I think. Some of the newer volvo`s look quite sporty too.

?? Is the Poll & Question because you want to buy and run a Sporty Diesel.

What maximum Budget are we considering or do you want suggestions on.

What MPG do you want it to be able to achieve?

george

Err the ex Fabia VRS SE of Boss Fox was just a little bit sporty !

Erm, shopping trolley with a bodykit? Sporty in terms of small hatches yeah but sportiest diesel?!

I voted 335d but maybe the 123d should be in there too? Size isn't everything.

Having driven a 535D to Slovenia at speeds up to 160 mph (it still averaged over 30 mpg on the Autobahns)

My vote goes to the BMW

Hi,

I was there to - it was interesting to see the Toyota's progress - the diesels need a bit of competition now that Peugeot is not longer competing..

To further clarify cars must have 300+ bhp , or be mapped to that, be rwd or fwd and be 'sporty'. Also, NO cars that need a SMF as I hate the rattling sound.

Touareg is a SUV so nope.

If you read a translated version of THISreport of A8 4.2 tdi it compares it with a Porsche

Hi, I would think that the Alpina D3 Biturbo is slightly better than the 123d - I read somewhere Tiff Needell took it around the Nordschleife in a very competitive time.

Needs to be 300+bhp !

Exactly, I'd expect the Alpinas to be more sport than the standard beemers.

No one has mentioned the M550d although I know it's not (currently) available in RHD.

The D3 is 214bhp - I would be very surprised if a map pushed it past 300bhp.

agreed so it's not included

Q7 V12 TDI or Touareg V10 TDI

NO SUV's please they are not sporty

Q7 V12 TDI or Touareg V10 TDI

Your 300bhp rule makes the short list rather small. The A5 makes 230ish bhp iirc, so that`ll struggle to make 300bhp with a map.

740d?

Jag XJ is around 270bhp so should make 300 with a map

The problem is, your asking for a sporty car but anything with 300bhp in diesel form is either a big luxo barge or a 4x4 so aside from a x35d there isnt a great deal of choice.

MK1 VRS ;)

NO SUV's please they are not sporty

Are you looking for suggestions on what to buy or is this a conversational piece with rules?

I'm sure AC Schnizer played with a 335d and it topped 185mph.

Personally I would like an Alfa 159 with the 210PS 2.4 JTDm engine and I'm not bothered if it doesn't make 300bhp.
