Dan's GTB1756 Powered Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

As above regarding stock cooler, nowhere near big enough to cool the 2.1bar of boost the GTB will put through it.

On the rolling road day we did we all lost power through heatsoak after the first runs, mine with the Forge Seat Style, Dans with gen Seat Sport, Alex with the Forge VRS front mount kit and Joel with a three inch thick cored custom cooler.

Another GTB1756. Nice work!

You'll never get bored with the turbo flutter Dan trust me! I find it pretty easy to make it do it aswell.

I don't think the LSD is 'essential'. But each to their own.

Standard clutch can work with the GTB1756, mine is now on 106k with original clutch. GTB fitted at 83k. Has never slipped, DMF can rattle a bit at low revs in 6th but it did that before the GTB went on.

However I think running the stock intercooler with this turbo would be extremely limiting, a good FMIC is needed!

I was surprised your clutch held up Alex after your booting it from low down and the torque came on hard and fast on the dyno! Very quick!

The turbo flutter is amazing isn't it Joe, over the moon with it. Going to order an S2000 filter so that've have something to fit while I clean the Jetex come I'm running.

You moving your battery to the boot?? i've got an S2 filter on mine but its tucked behind the battery which i dont like!

I've been wanting to but not got the balls to do it! If you know how to do yours then I'll quite happily come along and lend a hand someday so I get an idea of what needs to be done!

I guess it's pretty simple but don't like fiddling about with wires. Ideally the spare wheel well would be ideal but loosing the spare wheel would not!

I'll have a look see what other people have done. i think it will be relatively simple but like you say fiddling with the wires will be fun. In my head i was thinking just run one wire to the original position of the battery and connect it up (the live wire)?

That's the idea had too! But it almost sounds to simple! The battery needs to be strapped correctly in the boot and then covered etc. Then the bay needs tidying there's that fuse panel thing on top of the battery to deal with.

You can buy junction boxes to connect the live to. Then you'll need to earth out the other connections somewhere. Buy some decent quality cable and find somewhere to run it discretely in the car, then make sure you get the same thickness of earth lead and get a good earth to the chassis in the boot. You can buy battery trays too.

Personally I wouldn't bother. I don't think it's worth the hassle, expense and the usage of boot space! Ok, for stripped out race & track cars where every bit of proper weight distribution is required it's fair game. For a diesel hatch which still has 5 seats and soundproofing it's debatable I'd argue....

The Fabia VRS diesel is very nose heavy so removing a 22(?)kg battery from the nose and relocating it behind the rear axle is worthwhile IMO.

But if you don't do track days I'd not even entertain the idea.  You shouldn't get that close to the car's limits on the public highway.

Only really doing it for looks tbh! Rest of the car looks really good (to me) want to get the engine bay looking good next :)

Richard I've done the castle combe sessions thing, booked to go again in September, did find the car very nose heavy on track to be honest!

Worth it then IMO, you should feel the difference.

As a thought Dan, could it be mounted to the side of the boot behind the carpeted area? (Underneath the boot light)That way you still have full use of the boot

Like dis.

Not sure there's enough room there mate. May mention to DT as Karl's good with wiring!

Still debating whether to buy this quick shifter off eBay!

That would do Phil! What brackets holding your battery in? Is it screwed to the boot floor?

It's just an alloy battery holder from ebay, then it's just bolted down through the floor with nuts welded underneath.

Seems to work alright..!

Sounds good to me, did you just run the live from the engine bay?

Yeah, to a junction box in the front and from there to the starter and fuse box.

Kind of makes sense! Think I need to go out to the car and physically have a look will make more sense then!

What wire are you using?

Wire that I was given, but the core isn't thick enough really!

No problems, I guess the wheel arches fill it up.

If it's not too expensive I'd definitely give it a go. Nothing to lose really :)
