Citigo Bulb Types?

Featured Replies

I always use Osram Nightbreaker halogen bulbs for improved light output. My Citigo (2016) takes H4 bulbs, but Nightbreaker bulbs made a visible difference over OEM. I have Nightbreakers in my bike also. Powerbulbs or Eurocarparts are good sources.

Cheers I'll lookat them. Thanks for the steer

Where did you get idea of: "Figured out the main and dipped beam are separate 2 prong bulbs which twist out of the housing and pull out of the wiring/base."?

Assumedthe wiring plug would be a 3 socket type that pushed onto the bulb as in my other cars. Essentially I ended up yanking the bulb andholder out. With dipped headlamps on, the single filament bulb was illuminated. Using my phones camera i could see the bulb inc holder fits into a recess in the housing and a slight twist locksinto place. Just checked what I'd assumed was the main beam headlamp and it too was a 2 "prong" ie terminal bulb.

The brighter bulbs, like Night breakers and the rest fail quite quickly, and are not cheap. I have used these brighter bulb types on and off, since they first became available (and illegal rally bulbs before that), but now I have a slow little Citigo, I just don't need them. I have had many cars with poor headlamps (and I used to go far too fast) but I have found that good, well-designed lamp units are just as important as bright bulbs - you need a sharply focused beam pattern. I have to say my 2019 Citigo is pretty good lights-wise for a basic car.

My Nightbreakers in the Citigo are 3 years old now, not blown. (only 10k miles though) The ones in my motorcycles have not suffered any more failures than 'normal' bulbs, maybe 2 or 3 bulbs in the ten years I've used them (total, not extra failures). Motorcycle headlamps are permanently on and get far more vibration than on a car, so a good test of longevity. So I cannot agree that Osram Nightbreakers bulbs fail more frequently than standard bulbs.

I do agree that the beam pattern from the Citigo H4 lamp is way better than expected, I was pleasantly surprised. Given that I live up a very dark lane, it is much appreciated.

In fairness, I'm talking about when I was regularly doing 35-40k miles per year, and a 12 hour day meant lights on a lot. I switched back to standard bulbs and had fewer failures.

In any case, always stick to Philips or Osram - I found the off-brand bulbs to be less reliable (whether super bright or standard) and to have poor beams (owing to inaccurate filament location).

Or you could read owner's manual to get correct information about bulbs.

The brighter bulbs do have a shortened life, even from respected brands.

It's a trade off, output for life.

Well after delays I finally changed the headlamp bulbs in our 2019 sel green tech . Both dip and main beam are H7’s ie double prong single filament, the coverage charts i found were all wrong at least for our 2019 car. Using osram night breakers as main beam and initially tried led with a projector lense for dip but absolutely useless to the extent of being dangerous as you can’t tell you have anything more than drl’s On. So getting some more night breakers and forgetting all about leds  for this car at least.

I had the same issue when changing bulbs. I've previously used Osram night breakers but tried Philip's White Vision as Dipped and Racing Vision for Main on the citigo and I am happy with the set up, would be keen to see the Osrams though for comparison?

Not in the UK you can't.

Skoda have removed the bulb types from their owners manuals, another devious attempt to force more of us into their dealer network.
