New Business - New website

Featured Replies

But still, you're going to have to subscribe to OpenDNS Business. Which is going to cost you a fair amount. Which you're going to have to pass on to your home users. For a service which (again, IMO) isn't actually going to do a perfect job of blocking, because of the limitations of filtering on DNS rather than URL. The home users would be better signing up for the free product themselves and just using OpenDNS' built-in management tools, to be frank. They could get essentially what you're offering, but for nothing.

Your right yes but if someone had a reseller account and had many customers or one big contract it would pay for the reseller account. When I last enquired it was in its thousands however.

If you're going to be basing this on OpenDNS's free option, then effectively charging a 3rd party for it, then you're likely to find yourself in contravention of OpenDNS's usage policy and/or T&Cs.

If that's not how your planning on doing it, then ignore me!

Depends...

Say for example if I said to a neighbour I can implement web control at £10 a month you choose what should be blocked

Allow for 3 free changes to be made over the course of 12 months (example, make changes to categorise) after that it is chargeable.

Have different pricing ranges for different reports, so £10 a month would cover the user for the full report available per month.

I'm just trying to be imaginative into it. I know if I was looking for web filtering that I didn't need to set-up or manage and had a report on who is on what for £10 a month I would take it! :) £120 a year - For some software products out there it costs more and the user is expected to install it and set it up.

I doubt most home users would spend that much on filtering.

For the sort of people who'd be most likely to benefit from this sort of thing, that's probably how much they're aiming to spend on their broadband, let alone something on top.

You might get a few sign up, but probably not enough to cover your costs.

That said I might be completely wrong, and next year you might be a millionaire from it.

I signed in to my OpenDNS account for the first time in ages, the free accounts are now limited to a single "network" (where you can apply settings based on the IP trying to resolve). I've already got 4 registered (family and friends) so I just logged out quickly and will proceed to avoid it until such time they actually try charging me ;)

i think at £10 a month you're having a laugh mate, sadly home users don't value things properly at all, a friend until a few months ago ran an ISP but the likes of Talk Talk and Sky with their broadband ranging at between free and £7 a month has wrecked the market.

Aside from the fact that DNS based filtering is weak at best, the only real way of keeping users fully in check aside from something like websense with a dedicated server, is the walled garden model that AOL/Compuserve failed with.

Yep, agree.

You might get somewhere with Websense, but going forth with a flawed model which can be bypassed and can't guarantee to block content, whilst over-charging for it won't take off (IMO).

But as said, I might be completely wrong and you'll be the one benefitting :)

Most things have already been covered - but get a local rate number rather than just a mobile. It might help give some people who phone up confidence that you are local.

Hi guys, changed a few things, actually got the shop address on there now too, more constructive criticism required please!

oh and I have a landline I just left it wrote down in the shop so i'll be updating that later on

Cheers!

Minor points, but:

Some of the text is very long sentences with lots of commas sometimes. No use of full stops other than right at the end of the paragraph.

Capital letters in the correct places. PC or pc ?

Just general English stuff.

We Excel in customer service and the customer always comes first keeping you up to date every step of the way.

I gather that pun is supposed to be in there?

Overall though I think it does the job quite well.

But it's got no flair being a stock layout with a few stock graphics. It's functional.

I'll clean up a bit with the grammar.

I'm currently trying to teach myself how to use photoshop (starter half an hour ago :drunk: ) it doesn't seem to be my thing though! migt have to end up going back to my designer

And I don't want anything fancy, I just want to get the information there for the customer and somewhere they can get my contact details etc :)

Definitely better with the address

An awful lot of dead white space about the site. You could have larger text there but possibly you're just being hindered by a template.

Front page -

"Home" Why is that there, it doesn't serve any purpose? Mistake?

Dead space after that looks odd.

The picture at the bottom I would try to align with the blue title text. It doesn't look middle aligned.

Services -

IMHO too much small text leading to unnecessary scrolling. There is a lot of unused white space to the middle right. If you could utilise that you could widen the column and get rid of the scrolling.

People don't like to read too much so maybe reduce to bullet points + a little sentence.

Small bus

Odd alignment. I think you just need to word wrap close near the image. Or put in a 2 cell table to do it.

Looks untidy right now.

Prices

Untidy. You need to align the prices. Again 2 cell table will let you do it.

and you'll have to remember to keep them up to date.

Contact us

Do you even need that bit? It's just repeating what you have on the right.

Maybe should just be a link to the contact form?

Questions

Not bad. I'd tidy up the first para a bit and ditch the bright red it's hard to read on white.

Also your paragraphs are all to hell. Space before and after each question. Maybe put "Q." at the beginning of each one.

just something that gripes me, i HATE generic images of people smiling etc.

And the whitespace seems to be restricting me causing all the whitespace :(

You've copied the prices so you have the untidy one above the tidy one.

Get rid of the extra and it'll look fine.

I had a look at the source but I'm not sure what's forcing the white gap.

It's been 10 years since I worked doing web sites.

some more changes been made! please discuss :)

Grammar & spelling issues, front page.

'Want' should be capitalised.

PC should be capitalised and peripherals is mis-spelt.

Need Upgrades? Need advice on what to do with your current setup? want a quick and easy service for your computer repairs? You've come to the right place!

We also sell pc components or perhiperals just come in or ask us if you need anything and we will do our best to supply it at a great price!

I also don't find the hyperlinks in blue are that easily read, against the white background.

To add some more to the list:-

'located in the Irlam Area' - area needs to lose the capital letter

  • PC Repairs
  • Laptop Repairs
  • Small Business Networking
  • Small Business Installations and servicing
  • New Custom PC Builds
  • Used PC's can be sourced at cheaper prices
  • PC Crashing problem resolving
  • Internet problems
  • Software Errors
  • Hardware Faults
  • Virus / Spyware etc Removal
  • Booting Iissues

You need to get the capitalisation correct + what are 'Iissues' ;)

'And much more, if there is any service that isn't here don't hesitate to contact us or give us a call!' - maybe needs to be two sentences and re-phrased?

  • Free Quote
  • No Fix - No Fee - Nothing to lose
  • Same day repairs in some cases
  • Family Run Business
  • Free pick up and drop off within 10 mile radius

Just some of the services on offer

  • PC Repairs
  • Laptop Repairs
  • Home / Business Networks
  • Small Business Support

More problems with capitalisation.

£50/ month please call in the shop or contact us by Email or Phone for a quote - should be:- £50 per month. Please call in the shop or contact us by email or phone for a quotation.

You can address inquiries - You can address enquiries

The 'Questions' page still has multiple formatting problems such as:-

A: "No Fix - No Fee" simply means that if our engineer does

not know how to repair your computer, there will be nothing to pay at all.

Remove the carriage returns within the text.

Hope that will keep you occupied for a while monkeykler.

I will get on it in the morning, much appreciated! I did notice the "lissues" bad typo lol

Front page, in the 'Leave the IT to us and relax' section. "want a quick and easy service for your computer repairs" should start with a capital letter.

And as mentioned I'd lose the 'everything in CAPITALS' look on the right-hand side. It doesn't look good and distracts the visitor from the main body of text. Other formatting issues as already mentioned.

HTML title of the homepage is set simply to 'Home -' - so I still have your site running as a tab in Chrome, but I don't know what it relates to.

In the 'Leave the IT to us and relax' section on the homepage I'd re-format that and remove the continual questioning. I'd be telling people what services you offer; go for a straight-forward approach rather than forcing visitors to think about the questions you've raised.

Other proof-reading/legibility/marketing issues on the front page:

"....have it back with you before you know it, saving you the stress of being without your machine for too long."

Try to set a more definite expectation here. What you've put is too vague and leaves the customer not knowing exactly what to expect. You and I both know that it depends exactly what the fault is, the complexity of the repair, the time taken and also what that customer's expectation is and definition of 'back before you know it'. Don't offer things you can't guarantee to deliver. Avoid this issue by re-wording and placing some time definition on the service offered, e.g. most repairs are undertaken within X days.

"Some of our experts come from backgrounds where they had to look after companies with over 400 users." If the business is also planning to offer more than traditional PC repairs, there's another angle worth considering. For example, if you're building an IT service aimed at small businesses, having integration/automation capabilities can be a useful part of the offering. Something like https://latenode.com/products/embedded-ipaas can be used to embed workflow and integration functionality into a product or service, which could be relevant if you're eventually connecting customers' existing business systems rather than just repairing their PCs.

Depends on your target market of course, but that doesn't sound all that impressive a statement to me.

"We Excel in customer service and the customer always comes first keeping you up to date every step of the way. Give us a call now for a quote, with NO fix no fee you have nothing to lose!"

Excel shouldn't be capitalised. These sentences need re-working as they don't read particularly well.

Hope this helps and that no offence is taken by my comments. Just a few thoughts.

The visitor shouldn't have to work out what you actually do, how long a repair is likely to take, or what happens if you can't fix it. A clear list of services, realistic turnaround times and a straightforward explanation of the “no fix, no fee” policy would probably inspire more confidence than lots of marketing language.

I'd definitely fix the page title as well. “Home -” looks like an unfinished template and doesn't exactly give a professional impression when someone has several tabs open.
