Ebay HID's which one

Featured Replies

Before i start yes i know they are a grey area so please refrain from the bickering, I'll take a chance and fitted a set to my GF's yaris a year back they have been great but i need to check some things.

For my GF's yaris i bought H4's but they had a metal shield at the bottom, this was supposed to reduce scatter/blinding which they do actually, i have driven behind and oncoming and they do not blind you (we've never been flashed once), i was very suprised with the kit considering the price.

Do the same ones exist for the fabia or are they a different lense in the headlamp itself, thinking it would be better to get shielded one if okay.

Also can anyone recommend any on ebay?

And i take it the full beams are a separate light on the fabia?

The bulbs are h7... I have a set from my punto that I'm contemplating fitting...

Thanks mate.

Anyone else?

Hi,

The ones your GF had were probably H7R which is a specific version for reflector style lamps, vs the H7 usual kit for projector style lamps.

The H7R conversion is designed to eliminate glare from the lense because HIDS are not designed to work with reflector lamps, they blind people

Does your fabia have projector (smaller round glass ball kind of look) or reflector style ?

Hi,

TBH i could fit H4's to her car without the metal shield, but decided to go with the metal to reduce scatter/blinding. I'm not sure havent picked it up but its a 2006 model (not the newer engine).

Cheers

It def wants h7 m8.. h4 dont fit the mk1 fabia (which yours is 2006) it wont have domed headlights unless it already has genuine xenons (which would mean fitting HIDs would be pointless lol)...

so for reduced glare go for the h7r kit

HIDS direct are the ones i have heard favourably with regards to aftermarket conversions. They stock H7R and H7 i believe

If you give them a call they will tell you exactly which kit to order

Thanks guys.

I take the fabia isnt canbus?

Apparently not on lighting. I have led sidelights and don't even get a bulb warning.

If you have reflector lamps i would go for H7R to avoid blinding

carmodshop on ebay is good. . bin running mine over a year now with no trouble, easy fit (around an hour) and around £56 delivered. . .its the h7r kit you want :-)

dont need canbus no. .

the metal shield ur on about. . isnt that for dipping the headlights (ones that use same bulb for high beam and dipped)

Did the MOT changes this year make these an automatic fail unless you have projector style lamps, auto level & washers?

^^ No.

U cannot fail them for not having auto level or headlight washers when gas discharge or HID bulbs are fitted.....

...but if they do have headlight washers or auto-leveling + gas discharge/ HID lights they have to work or it will fail.

Passed an MOT today in the BMW with HIDs fitted into aftermarket projectors and with no self leveling.

no need for projectors or levelling or washers anymore, beam has to be correct and not too high, otherwise fine. Cant see why on that basis people are saying they are illegal, got told this on forum other day there. They cant be if passes mot surely.

Ive ordered some of course, and am looking forward to getting a more usable light on these country roads

That is because you are confusing "road legal" with passing the MOT.

It may pass the MOT doesn't necessarily automatically make it road legal. By that regard I would also be concerned with invalidating insurance.

Perhaps taking things a tad too far however who is to say that in whatever conditions the insurance may not wish to pay. I personally won't be taking that gamble.

I know I have little brain, but can I please check:

All HID conversions which simply replace the bulb are illegal

If you're going to break the law then HR7s will be better than H7s because they cause less glare to others

If you want HIDs then you need a new headlamp.....now...

What is a headlamp?

Would these be a new headlamp?

To me it seems that they should be because the parts outside the projector are not part of the headlamp, but are sidelights, etc.

What do people think?

Unless ur good at plastic welding/ fabricating i would steer clear of those m8.. iv seen it dun on other headlights see this link for an example on a polo 9n3 headlight

If i wer u id get a set of HID H7R bulbs... they may be classed as "illegal" but untill people start posting saying they've been pulled.. fined etc.. i wouldnt worry. There are ALOT of cars running HID kits n iv not heard of ANYONE having ne trouble with the police.. bearing in mind the document that keeps being quoted came out in 2010 + in 2 years iv not heard of a single incident where someone has been prosecuted for having them.. there are alot of grey areas in the police handbook.. meaning 99% of the time they get overlooked..

So don't let people flapping on here stop u getting them bud.. ;)

Thanks m8. Will take your advice.

I just bought a ser of hids direct h7r 4300k hids, heres a pic

Just fitted my h7r's from hids direct, canbus ones... I get a bulb warning light on for about 2 seconds after I switch the lights off then the light goes??

Also the passenger side doesn't look as bright?

Any ideas on both? Could the bulb be upside down??
