Remapping Yeti - ddoes it invalidate warranty?

Featured Replies

I phoned up a local firm to see how much it would cost to re-map the Yeti. I was told they could do it but that it would invalidate the warranty, is this true?

I see loads of posts about Shark Performance re-mapping but no mention of invalidating the Warranty.

it would if they found out.

You would find it very difficult to get any kind of warranty claim through if you did.

Yes....if the remap affected a particular part or part

Its not detectable easily unless they really want to find it

It would only effect a warranty claim if the remap effected the part that failed in some way.

So as a remap will put a little more strain on the engine, turbo etc... they could in theory refuse any engine or drivetrain claim... if they know about or find the remap.

I've said this before and I'm saying it again, why re-map a yeti? If you want more torque, power, or what ever buy something different. You may have read or looked at track days, and braking problems after thrashing a Yeti. Are you going to go the whole hog and get upgraded brakes, suspension etc,or take the risk? Yeti's are not performance vehicles, if 140/170 isn't enough, get something else.

Probably because a remapped CR is much nicer to drive.

It is jolly good fun though.

They don't suffer with brake problems at all, it's the engine oil that starts to get hot. The 312mm brakes are quite good.

In stock form they are suprisingly capable and it's quite amusing to be faster than people think...

The 110 engine is more than capable of being mapped; it's effectively a de tuned 140. However the gearbox ratio's are set up for 110, not 140 or above and the FSIII front brakes are only just adequate (my experience) for the standard hp and not straight forward to replace with the much more effective set-up on the 170.

Mine will be staying stock (engine not wheels :giggle: ), in my ownership anyway; she has plenty of go as is.

I love embarassing BMW's!! :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Because Skoda do not do a CR170...........DSG.

I have updated brakes as well from a CR170/vRS Octavia fitted as well, as the flappy paddle MFSW.

I do not drive mine fast, not easy around South London, where I frequently average 16mph over a 400+ mile tank full of fuel. When I do venture out I will sit at 60mph on the motorway- at about £1.50 per litre who can afford to drive their cars fast?

I have done it for fuel economy, and compared to the other 2 DSG's based around London who show their fuel consumption, 900000 & Bahnstormer, my vehicle is the most economical.

Oh, and Bahnstormer's is even more modded than mine.

The remapped engine makes the car even more flexible with much more low down torque and it is great for towing as well.

I have fitted the Racechip to my 140 DSG that I had on my previous 140 manual. I do feel that the car is smoother and more responsive and I am convinced there is a fuel consumption improvement.

Yes, I think if it went into the delers with the tuning box installed they might express concerns, but of course it won't as it's a ess than 5 minute, clean-hands job to remove/ replace it.

John

The 110bhp yeti responds very well to the shark treatment.....mine has 174bhp now, is much more fun to drive and does more mpg...but yep warranty is questionable

Ok, fitted Racechip box as John above, smoother drive,(mines a std 110SE) last week around Brittany,Normandie, and Loire got an indicated 55mpg, actual for the week of 52 over 1200/1300 miles, this included Auto route, voie express, country roads and lanes etc driving at recommended level plus a little, the car also has Aerobars fitted - prior to the box I doubt that level of economy, around 42/43. I accept the car has about 12k more miles under its belt after the box and is probably running more freely but 10mpg is a little unrealistic.

My view, the box works and as others have said its great in the traffic lights grand prix for the startled looks!

Another car wouldn't provide me with many of the benefits the Yeti can offer myself and the family ie flexible interior configurations, 4x4 capability, sleeper ability.... Why else would you remap one? Maybe because they are smoother and nicer to drive after a remap (well, I can speak for my Shark Performance remap anyway) and are capable of returning far better fuel consumption. I also find the chassis to be great very entertaining, the overall car has real depth of talent - great than the sum of its parts if I can use a cliche!

Ive owned far quicker cars, many the good side of 300bhp or 300lb/ft (including a stage 2+ mk2 VRS estate) and this one is by far the nicest to own. :)

Thanks for the comments - it was more of a whim than a determined desire to get it remapped. I do like the idea of haviing the extra bhp but realistically I would only make use of it once in a blue moon so it wouldn't justify having it done.

My daughter once fell foul of an Insurance firm when she had an accident and they withdrew their Insurance cover due to something she (totally unintentionally) didn't disclose when she took out the insurancet!! Luckily, after a year it worked out in her favour when the taxi driver took her to court and the Judge ruled that the taxi driver had caused of the accident. I mention this because I would have no hesitation in informing the insurance that the car was remapped - I really don't think we'd get that lucky again, especially when the taxi driver's costs were over £50,00!!!

Actually, I use it every day............

I press the loud pedal less and use less fuel, even around London.

Economy - me too. On a recent work trip, I averaged over 65mpg.

Totally agree.

I woud add thst despite Saga Insurance having allowed the chip on my last Yeti at no additional remium they have upped my premium by £60 for the re-fitted chip on my new Yeti. They're telling me that the agent made a mistake 18 months ago by allowing it at no cost. I am in discussions with them!

I wasn't happy when enquiring with SAGA about remapping my Yeti; their answers were vague. However, Skoda Insurance were very helpful and cooperative, checking with underwriters and then saying, yes that's fine for 10% extra premium; which I thought was fair. I've since declared alternate alloy wheels and lowered 'greenline style' springs; both without issue.

Why did I have my Yeti remapped? For the same reason as Rockhopper, that is, I wanted a CR170 but with DSG (for a variety of reasons).

Why not a different vehicle? I wasn't going to pay another £10K for an Audi Q5 to get CR170 with DSG! I might though just be tempted to switch to a MINI Paceman in a few years time.

Oh. To answer Sandy.Roger's original question; Yes, if they can prove the remap caused the failure of whatever failed. Risky; perhaps; but then you take a risk every time you cross the road.

Shark performance is the route I went when remapping my camper van. It transformed the performance and the economy is much improved. Can't speak for it on a yeti but they really seem to know what they're doing-and are strong supporters of briskoda

Not sure if it's the same in the UK but skoda here offer a remapping which doesn't affect the warranty. Might do for the insurance though.

Thanks!
