SuperSkoda lower grill winter cover

Featured Replies

Awful news James, I really appreciated your efforts.

That Porsche Cayenne must have been in season for the Yeti to pounce like that. Seems like the Yeti may need some glasses though as the Porsche is only a looker for me when I have the beer goggle on.

The front is designed to crumple so it doesn't break too many granny bones should one decide to fly her broom stick in front of you. Most new cars with a good NCAP pedestrian rating would deform the same.

TH, a dummies guide would be useful as I may well go and order that way. My Russian is non existent so I'd have to rely on babel fish.

  • Neither could I, I have emailed them again, mentioning that there may be several others who would also like to buy the grill. I have asked them if they have ever thought of selling on Ebay so that it

Hairball, Porsche has a big rounded behind  obviously my Yeti liked it .

In all honesty the damage is not that bad, plastic bumper bonnet and so on but engine is fine, rad still full of water and it runs, air filter and a turbo pipe has come off because it has a nice whistle! Only down side is we were going to use it for Scotland this xmas, so now it will be the Fabia and roof rack and roof box, should be fun..

I tried to post a how to buy a grille guide but the Russian text examples seemed to freak out the Forum and posted gibberish in a completely different thread (and not a very pleasant one either) is there a way of attaching a word Doc or a PDF?

I thought I had done it half an hour later with a word document as an attachment, but it allowed access to the original file (my laptop!!) quickly deleted.

.....is there a way of attaching a word Doc or a PDF?

Vegit8 might be able to help you there - he set up the Google doc Waiting List here - especially as he is one of the potential customers, I think!

Oh no.... hope your Yeti's nose is soon better James!

Thanks anyway for all your efforts with the grille, your attempts have been much appreciated even if it came to naught in the end.

Fingers crossed that someone outside Russia has a look at copying them & produces a more readily obtainable version... there's clearly a market. Perhaps Superskoda could get on the case ! I wonder of they read this forum?

I emailed Superskoda all the details (and YouTube video) of the Russian grill a while ago, but again - usual no response from them. Shame, as this item seems right up their street. Agree with TH, it is an pain free and safe experience ordering direct from the Russian guys, especially with help from someone who has done it already (TH). £60 seems a bargain for peace of mind. I still can't understand why Skoda don't fit a mesh lower grill as standard - even my wife's Totoya Aygo is fitted with one.

How to buy a Radiator Protection (Skoda Yeti)

It was not possible to put the entire guide into a post as I have used some examples of the Russian text, unfortunately the forum cannot cope with it and so I have had to put the rest on an attachment.

This really is not as hard as it may seem, there are just a few things to remember.

Christmas is not a good time to buy things mail order unless you have to, to allow for the chaos to clear I would wait until around January 10th before ordering

To them this is a very small order with more work than usual, so it will not be at the top of their list of things to do.

There is a four-hour time difference between London and Moscow (they are +4hrs)

Western Union offer two services, within minutes, or within 12 hours, in 12 hours is fine (and cheaper). The Russians are four hours ahead of us so by the time you have paid, then emailed them and they have got round to reading your email, it will be too late to collect it on the same day. I took my passport and a utility bill as proof of identity to Western Union

Their English, our Russian, and an on-line translator means some of the emails may be a little “odd”. Just think of the policeman in “allo allo”.

They will give you a tracking number with Russian post (if they remember), but you might have to ask them for it. Sometimes Internet explorer has trouble connecting to the Russian post website, my record is three refreshes. This may well be because it is a Russian site don’t be concerned.

The website updates erratically, the basic stages are, received into system, at export centre, arrived customs, exit customs, exported. Then the next you will hear is when the postman arrives at your house. Here is my old tracking number RA212494706RU it might still work enabling you to see what you will have access to, here is the website link,

http://www.russianpo...slug/trackingpo

When I sent them an email I typed my message in English, then copied it into an on-line translator, and then copied and pasted the Russian version underneath the English. They did not respond to any of my emails until I did this. Sometimes they did the same to me, sometimes they responded in just Russian, other times just in English. All the emails below are extracts of those used to buy mine, or Truthseekers grille, but the English names and addresses have obviously been changed

The first example shows my email in both the English and translated version, from there my examples are just in English, because if you use my examples changing the wording for your own name and address etc, my Russian example would be wrong. The replies however are exactly as they were received.

Good luck

Regards

Derek

Above and beyond the call of duty, TH!

Just in case anyone has read my guide (I hope it made sense) and is thinking shall I, shan't I? After a few days rest in Russian Customs, Truthseekers grill cover left Russia last night so hopefully by Christmas there should be another fitted to a British Yeti. Hopefully the proud new owner will let us know when it arrives and post a picture or two and some comments. :coffee:

Something from this sad tale might have emerged.

Looking at the photos, it looks like the fastenings between the plastic bumper and the metal bodywork are sturdy and located at the ends, where I could spot from above a single bolt each side under the headlight units.

Perhaps removing the wheel arch liner gives access to the fastenings - the only thing preventing me from removing the entire front grill.

Warmer weather is required before both front wheels/ arch liners can be removed

Going slightly off topic, when you remove the arch liners to get at the front fixings can you have a quick look and see if you think that would give access to replacing the indicator bulbs. I remember reading that a blown indicator bulb was a dealer replacement job, but having a quick nose around I thought it looked as if there was an apperture in the wheel arch covered by the liner, which if removed could save a trip (and cost) to the dealer. Sorry again for the deviation. Good luck with the demolition/rebuild.

Will do.

Just checked on ELSAWIN and front turn signal replacement requires the removal of the headlamp unit.

Thereafter nothing complex; other than removing a cover & O-ring held in place by 2 screws to be able to get at the bulb.

Grill cover arrived yesterday from Russia. Looks very well made, and was certainly well packaged. Will post some photos (if I can) when fitted. Thanks to The Hood for all his help. Well worth the wait and money in my opinion - looks smart as well.

Please take a pictures and how to fixed, please.

See post #14 and #126 on this thread for photos and video how to fix.

Well if anyone wants a grille cover the Christmas chaos should be over now. I sent the Russians a last thank you email on 17/12/12

Hi

The Radiator protection arrived a couple of days ago, thank you again for being willing to post it so far. Now you have two very happy English customers.

regards

Derek

I got this reply the same day

Hello,Derek!

Thank you for your trust to Russian entrepreneurs. Sincerely, Kokaev Kirill (Oksana's son, 9 years old).

So the price of a single purchase worked out at just over £60 delivered to the door, and took a couple of weeks, faster and cheaper than the group buy would have been. They are safe to deal with, and as well as Yeti's they do covers for Fabia's and other Skoda's. It's relatively easy to do and all the details are in previous posts (post No256) on this thread. If you want one but are unsure or uneasy about doing it yourself, drop me a p.m. I'll do the emails and you do the money transfer and take delivery.

Thanks to Feedie for posting the youtube video without which I would not have known about the cover, if you see anything else out of the ordinary make sure you post it on the forum, its location should not be a problem, although Chineese could be interesting :coffee:

  • 2 weeks later...

Those Dutch ones fill the upper grille area, whilst the S/Skoda ones are for the lower grille.

Thanks Kevin.

The second one is for the lower grill

... I will continue with my home grown approach for the moment. Mesh is cut to size and the chrome edging strip has arrived. Mrs 33q has got me wardrobe fitting at the moment so sneaking out to the garage is difficult.....but she is away next week so .....cats away mice will play!

I wonder if 33q has managed any DIY progress or if wardrobe fitting continues...

With all this talk of radiator muffs I had a play with the Russian grill cover. I took it apart and cut a piece of DPC to fit the mesh with a hole for the temperature sensor. I attached the DPC to the mesh with some insulation tape (only had blue will be changed to black). All fitted and working for under a pound and took about twenty minutes. There is also a third cover on the way for another forum member, has anyone else sent off for one yet?

Hello from Greece! I just returned from my trip to Moscow and i also bought my cover for radiator from strelka!! 2150 rub= 53 euro more or less... they also gave me a present for tidy the back space!

I have a question...

They gave me also instructions for installing it. Number 1 instruction: do not install it in tempratures below 10 Celsius...and i am asking you why?? it would make a sense if they say do not install it in high temrpatures (lets say above 35 celsius) because of the minimum air intake.... weird!

If someone has an answer please help!

Plastic parts that may break in low temperatures?

It doesn't say "don't use in temperatures below........"

May that be the answer! Hope so! Actually i am more concerned about the high temperatures in Greece (40 celsius sometimes) and the minimum airintake from the grille rather than the below 10!! :giggle::whew:

If you choose to install the radiator protection behind the grille, you have multiple choises in mesh types. I bought some black aluminum mesh (bay of E). Removed the front bumper, drilled a few holes, trimmed the mesh to fit the two grilles and fastened with plastic fasteners. As you will see here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/272262-diy-lower-grille/ .

I found two minor stone hits in the radiator.

Nice job! I am not intenting to close the top radiator intake at any way! believe me the temperatures in Greece are very high!!
