AmD Remap - WOW!

Featured Replies

Just returned from a driving holiday in Scotland after I popped into AmD first to have my Fabia vRS remapped.

What a difference! Power is up from about 145 to 180 and torque from about 235 to 305 lbft.

(I have a Seat air intake pipe fitted, but otherwise the car is standard).

As a real world test of all the cars I own, I see what speed I reach from a standing start to a road sign on a road near where I live. Untuned, the vRS hit about 96mph. After AmD worked their magic, it now passes the post at about 109. To give you a benchmark, my Volvo S60R with BSR remap (352bhp) passes the post at 114mph - so the Fabias performance is very impressive.

The throttle response feels better, and the torque gives much more confidence in mid range overtaking situations. It really made my holiday!

Also I noticed my average fuel consumption when driving sensibly (girlfriend in car) went up form 48.7 to 53.2mpg.

As the car only has 2500 miles on the clock I am hoping for further improvement to the power and torque as it loosens up.

If you're not sure about remapping - go for it!

With 2500 miles on clock I presume its till under warranty - doesnt that bother you?

Only ask as Ive just got my new vRS and was tinkering with the idea when the car gets run in...

Cheers

Cal

Glad your happy :)

Did you have the one-click, or a custom re-map?

At 2500miles the engine is still tight it will noticably loosen up at about 7-8K mark (well it did on mine)

Moved to appropraite forum.

Enjoy the remap and don't get hung up on the figs...all that matters is that your happy with how it drives. :D

Hello and welcome.

We seem to have at least a couple of things in common. I sold my 850 T5 with a RICA map for my little Fabia vRS.

The S60R is a proper car indeed, and interesting to hear how the fabia almost matches the speed of the S60 !!!!

Andy

it may match the speed but i bet the times were very different!

out of interest y did you ditch the volvo?

Could someone explain why the mpg improved while driving sensibly on a remapped VRS?

Less thgrottle required for comparable urge would be my guess :D + acceleration is quicker to a given speed so you spend longer at a cruise.

Whers's ScoobyChris when you need him :D:rofl:

I'm getting 53mpg at the moment with my skoda mapped fabia. :)

I'm not doubting what you say (ie faster car requires less effort to go to same speed) but I would like to know why, if the car can gain 35bhp (which after all is a lot)and not see a mpg decrease, Skoda don't do this themselves?

I mean I previously thought it was an emissions thing, but if as you say the mpg might actually get better, I just don't get it!

Probably reliability - an increase like this will increase wear'n'tear on the car, and Skoda don't want to be doing lots of warranty work if they can get away with it and still sell their product.

Also, it is possible that emissions are increased in "lab conditions" with a remap, even though overall on the road these emissions work out lower...

Rob.

If Skoda made all fabia's 180bhp they would be at the edge of the components tolerances and they would have to replace lots and lots of clutches etc during the 3 year warranty period.

Also its about product placement, if they make something super fast there is little room for improvement with the next models and it would be treading on the Octavia's toes not to mention some VW's....

Wouldn't want to take sales off the Golf GTi now would we :D

Thanks for that. It does make sense, I guess you are taking a little gamble with reliability, having said that I've read so many good reports..

IMO, not bringing out a 180 bhp Fabia vRS was a missed opportunity to compete with the Clio Cup. The 130 bhp car is just too slow to compete with some rivals nowadays.

It should have had a 1.8T from the Octavia in 180 bhp IMO.

But the fabia is alot more lardy for a start and if they did bring out a 180bhp Fabia I would suspect that Octavia vRS sales would of dropped.

Besides the Fabia is not marketed as a hot hatch where as the Cliocup is..

Clio Cup and Fabia vRS are a different league of cars IMO.

I dont think the Fabia was ever bought out to rival Hot Hatch's like the Clio Cup, but to offer a good comprimise between perfomance, reliablilty, comfort and MPG...

...And for that I think they hit the nail on the head :)

I agree with Chavyboy & James above, the Fubry was never intended to be marketed as a 'Hot Hatch' despite plenty of owners turning them that way.

Whether by luck or good fortune, Skoda appear to have pitched a brilliant 'flexible freind'.

Those who wish to retain its so called soft ride, comfort, MPG, can do so.

Those who wish for a 'Hot hatch' type car, can - Green filter, cupra intake, strut brace, eibach spring & damper, octy brakes, remap and still retain some reasonably sensible MPG, WEY HEY off they go.

Mine's just touched 14k and it's starting to feel the pain of being remapped, i.e. more smoke, tyres not lasting as long, clutch slippage, jiggles and strange noises at certain rev's/rpms, I put this down to the remap, the car also feels more sluggigsh than what it used to i.e. when I first got it remapped it felt alive, now it's wanting a sleep and I havent even touched 20k yet, admitadly I do drive very briskly.

20k? That's nowt, mine was remapped over 50k miles ago. OK it's an Octy but its a diesel engine similar to yours.

Mind you, I drive like a granny :D

^^

Maybe it just needs a bit of TLC :D

Thats the thing though isn't it, by looking at this forum, it seems clear to me that in fact a hot hatch is what most people seem to have wanted. The amount of people I've seen who go out and buy it and then do

As for it cutting into Octy vRS sales' date=' well technically it was discontinued very soon after was it not?

[/quote']

No, you cn stil buy a brand new Octavia vRS. And at around 13k a 1.8T Fabia would have defo caused a conflict.
