Vrs vs 2 Civic Type R's

Featured Replies

Ordered a Vrs a week ago but had its out for a 24h test drive. My cousin has a civic type r mugen 200 and decided he wanted to so me what real speed was. Well after 5 drag races down a 1/2 mile straight he lost everyone! This of course made him call his mate who drives a type r also but with 250bhp. Out of 4 races the Vrs won 3 and lost one (my fault with slow get away). This sealed the deal for me as it proves that the Vrs is a proper pocket rocket and now I just have to count the days down until it arrives :-(

He wasn't trying.

I'm assuming the 1/2 mile straight was a runway or private road for your sole use?

He wasn't trying.

he was changing gears like he was driving a mk1 vRS?

Niiice! I'm assuming this was on a private road..... ;-)

Shows the performance advantage the dsg gives.

The lack of torque on a type-R would drive me nuts.

Yeah private road to my work in an industrial estate. The Vrs def had the legs on the mugen and the 250bhp type r just couldn't get the power down. Was reli amazed with that dsg box, reli sweet changes

Is your cousin a member of Civinfo yet?

He wasnt trying or driving properly.

No such thing as a CTR mugen 200.

Mugen did a mk3 mugen CTR that was 240BHP and the cost was a joke IIRC ~33k!

With a few bolts on and reflash mk2's they will make 240BHP.

If your doddle about with a vtec you will get done, and most people cant drive them properly you have to drive them on the limit to get the best performance unfortunately this requires a bit of skill but can also be dangerous.

Owned various vtecs for the last 8 years.

Exactly, no point in having a "powerful" car if you do not have a clue how to drive it lol. I bet type R was being left spinning its wheels but was then gaining ground by the end of 1/2mile. Did you use launch control each time? Wet or dry conditions?

Still, I ma rather glad I will have my Fabia vRS in roughly 5 weeks, can't wait!

Yes there is dude. Type "ctr mugen 200" into google to see all the links and pics :-)

Jabozuma- the vrs dosnt have launch control

Tbf i walk away from my mates teg dc2 type r which only has a drivers seat and a steering wheel in it but once hes upto full power it starts to claw it back slightly but then it dies of again (private land owned by another mates family)

It takes alot of effort to drive a vtec to its full potential

I used to beat ctr's to 60 in my old diesel Merc estate as said its got most to do with the gearbox

The second type r was standard spec but has had quite a few tweaks done hence the hp increase, mugen 200 has standard 200 hp, mugen 200 never caught up (suspect it would over longer distance). Tweaked type r started to catch very quickly just ran out of road

@ ajs_vrs

You need to get more informed before you state things like that :

As a member of www.civinfo.com since 2007..I think I may know more than you :giggle:

Yes..I have driven one too!! :hi:

Sorry good point your right, I'm not saying i know more than you nor do i give a **** TBH :D

What do i know, i own a 457BHP supercharged S2000 ;):D which i have raced, installed and mapped myself - the fabia is a second more sensible car for me, but less of this willy waving.

I think there are a few people who dont know the specs of the mugen 200 being 200BHP as above :D

Ultimately power accelerates a car not engine torque.

The 200 is 237BHP as i found out mate :D

It doesn't have launch control. That's the 6 speed DSG that has it. Ours sadly doesn't :(

Good win's mate!

Oh well, As I do not have the car yet I must have gotten my wires crossed while inundated with the amount of info on this site :D.

some smart arses on here, mugen 200 has 200bhp, mugen 20 has 237bhp

Mugen 200 -Performance: 0-60mph in 6.6secs, max speed 146mph, 31.0mpg

Tech: 1998cc, 4cyl, FWD, 198bhp, 142lb ft, 1267kg, 215g/km CO2

My 1/4 mile times are faster than most civic's I have ever come across. Not only my times but up against them I've always came top trumps apart from a few Time Attack 260+ bhp ones with nothing but a single seat in them which in all fairness are pretty much race cars with license plates.

Will out do Intergra's and Misti GTO's easily too.

That is, a Stage 1 vrs mind you.

Lol like the picture - well played :-)

Civic type R's go backwards in your rear view mirror lol, especially when you catch them in the wrong gear, then its downright embarrassing for them.

Look forward to seeing the replacement which will be a turbo charged engine allegedly.
