Vrs vs 2 Civic Type R's

Featured Replies

How slow and overrated they are according to the uninitiated on here

Hater gonna hate but the facts speak for themselves

lol. Ok mate. So lets make some more completely pointless comparisons. How many rally championships has the civic won...... on hang on, it doesnt matter because I was talking stock v stock.

My opinion still stands. Its an over rated engine. Poor on economy, severely lacking in midrange grunt, needs to be driven at high revs everywhere if you want to make the same progress as most turbo charged hot hatches. I will concede that it is good when driven flat out to the redline in every gear, and its an immensely reliable engine, which coincidently gets mated to a very good chassis, but the crux of the matter is......

its no quicker than a standard Fabia vRS. Which is what the thread was started about, And it has been backed up by guys on the civinfo forum.

And this is what i mean, Soooo many people jump straight into the "no way is it quicker" typical response which proves that the engine is over rated, hence why that cicvinfo thread changed its tune to the duty "show it a corner" response. to be fair a few guys have even said on there they regularly get embarrassed by cars they wouldnt expect to out drag them.

haters gonna hate, right!!!!

Might be backed up by some other drivers but journos can get decent 0-60 times out of them , the only reason the Fabia is often quicker is down to the gearbox , you can get better changes if you remove driver input , thats the same reason my diesel Merc was faster in traffic light GP's , big auto load up the 'box and hang on , it was however a good second slower to 60 and up against a well driven CTR wouldnt have stood a chance

The fact remains the CTR IS faster to 60 , quicker top end , more powerful and a much better car "out of the box" its true you need to work the engine differently and it needs a lot of driver input its clearly not suited to all.

There is no doubt the TSI is hugely rated on here and it will certainly "feel" quicker since the driver can only feel torque not horsepower but its more suited to those who just want to plant their foot and require little or no driver involvement so again not really suited for those who really like to drive their cars

I'm also sure than when it comes to total race victories Honda would have 10 to ever Skoda one

I see where you are coming from, but i guess its also a void comparison considering one has the advantage of DSG, both cars have different gear ratios etc. Plenty of stock fabias on here with sub 7 second 0-60s though!!

FWIW, the 0-60, in anything but a traffic light gran prix is not relevant in every day use, just as top speed isnt. In everyday life its the in gear acceleration which shows an engines flexibility and performance, and that, as i have said all along is where the 2.0VTEC is weak.

tbh, i dont think the Fabia is quick as standard, in my review when i test drove it was really damning. Most guys couldnt believe why i was still buying it, when i practically slated everything about it, but i bought it as a project. Theres no way i would have it standard.

Ill give you that lol

:giggle: this thread is comical.

Just to throw a spanner into the mix with the 0-60 times, mine was standard the first time it ran 1/4 mile at GTI International with a bootfull of cleaning stuff. 6.58s

Having spoken with a few CTR drivers before, the ones I've met seemed to like and rate my Fabia. Each to their own I say, opinions are like ar$eholes, everyones got one!

The best way or working out the DSG is by looking at the Golf GTI Manual v DSG times. All the DSG cars are always much quicker.

Funny that, I actually went VW site And looks at manufacturer's performance figures for Golf GTI 2.0 TSi and there was no difference between DSG and manual (210bhp rated). There was a difference for R32 though.

That was totally unprovoked but since you're think your the big lad...

I'm happy for you mate I really am a++/gold star, but you really need to get out more.

I bet you’re the type of person who still lives at home with their mum yet thinks he's the big I am PMSL, if you’re going to try and even be remotely clever then actually come up with a reasonable/factual explanation why you think the fact is wrong other than some bull**** generic comment, I'll give you a hint of many reasons, gearing.

I think I've met my first ****** of the forum on here ie you, nice one.

Learn how to spell too mate you retard, then people might take you more seriously.

I'll let this be as it will mean more to you in your pathetic little life, i don't seek approval of others like you.

Cheerio

Well once again yet more bull**** falling from that same hole of yours because I am a 25 year old lad with my own mortgage i live with my daughter and g/f that doesn’t need to work as my successful career with Skoda pays for so the knowledge i have over you is because that’s my job and at my age the only way is up :) (hardly a pathetic life i would say) and also i don’t feel the need to bang on about some bag of s*** S2000 to make myself look good (talking of pathetic life) so can you do yourself a favour and take your face for a s*** and come back when you know what your talking about

P.S before you talk about my spelling have a look at your grammer you retard (maybe try looking at what your saying rather then how its spelt because intellgance aint messured on how well you can spell it)

Guys, guys... stop fighting!

One car is a shopping car for old people with a reasonably quick engine shoved in the front. The other is exactly the same.

Grammar fail on your part too I'm afraid sunshine.

Yay I love this part, the part where (Is that the write where? :D) the grammer police come to tell everyone off :)

lol sorry that’s just how we speak from round these parts.. I lost a little profession there.. Either way I will discontinue to comment any further on this thread as I feel I wouldn’t get anywhere or prove anything anyway or the only real achievement would be cluttering this thread with unnecessary babble so i will leave it now and shall not comment any further... Apologies if i have offended anyone

Bye :)

ajs_vRS obviously wasn't aware that Kie is a well known member here, hopefully everyone can place nice now.

not to take sides though.... but I would vote to have ajs_vrs removed for being confrontational and ignorant.

blessed be the peace maker ;-)

Don't throw your toys out a pram yet. Just ignore your interlocutor (!) and keep contributing plz. I think everybody deserves respect and courtesy-that is until things stay on the subject. When it gets personal ugly than it is not acceptable. Obviously I am not aware of any previous history you might have between you soo.

As for the grammar police, I am dyslexic and Eng is not my first language so I never correct anybody :D.

While on the subject of vRS v CTR performance and Fabia (obviously!) owning Civic I'd like to ask two questions.

1. To me Fabia's stock torque curve Looks artificially flat for a big chunk of its range. Looks like it is being limited by the ECU. People in the know, is that the case?

2. Can somebody post dyno sheets for those two CTRs which figured at the beginning of the thread?

Cheers!

Always in the Fabia section .....

The mk1 provoked lively debates, now the mk2 does as well.

The mk2 has come of age! :D

Hater gonna hate but the facts speak for themselves

When people are comparing road cars looking at cars that have had unteen thousands of pods spent on them to be super quick is a bit daft.

I quite like the Civic, it's good fun to drive. Just a shame that many drivers of them don't know how to get the best out of the engine.

At the recent Briskoda How fast at Bedord Aerodrome there was a Civic Type R.

It was slower in practice and less than one second quicker in practice... than my diesel Yeti. What does that say?

Nothing.

Better try and get things restarted then...

The MkII is ugly, has a gearbox for those that can't drive and it's got a flawed engine with a thirst for oil to rival that of George Best for booze. The Mki is a far superior car in every respect.............(runs back to MkI forum and locks the door)

Can't edit.

Ongoing cache issues (only on Briskoda!) on an hourly basis. So posted the correction.

i would only consider both cars nippy at best

Yep it says nothing so why bother?.

When the cars are new and in independent road tests the 0-60 is much more accurate , if you saw how these are achieved then I doubt you would even try in your own car

I'm not a fan of the vtec engine it's not my cup of tea but there is no doubt it's a very capable unit and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand

On the other hand the tsi is a deeply flawed unit

+1 :D

On the other hand the tsi is a deeply flawed unit

Why is it flawed?

The TSI could hardly be called a "deeply flawed" unit... Given its market share and success all these years, as well as pure performance/cost figures it would most probably be called a very successful and advanced piece of engineering but each is entitled to his opinion. I for one, prefer to go with facts and numbers. Oil consumption was never an issue with 1.2s and even on a poll done a while ago specifically for the 1.4 supercharged, it was proved that the majority of owners never had any issues with it. For what it's worth, me and and my friend with a Golf GT 160 never had any issues with our "deeply flawed units".

As for MKII vs MKI comparison, I cannot really comment to that, it's only laughable. I can only say that for a MKI owner to call the MKII ugly, it really needs some optical disability but he probably didn't mean that. Sounds more like "I can't get an MKII so I better slate it..." Again, great fun...
