Comments and questions on what the unit can and cannot do.

First one for starters.....

Do the rear parking sensors link to the unit to give a graphical display of the distance, or is it just beeps?

I've found a manual online for the unit, looks like you can copy the CD contents to a SD card. You may be able to copy the CD to the head unit, but it wasn't very clear.

It's gives a graphical display inc telling you which area is close to an object, bit no distance as far as I am aware. Just beeps.

My understanding is that the system can be updated via memory card. It does have live traffic info, not sure if that means it can also be updated "over the air"?

That'll do nicely! That sounds like what I was hoping for, beeps and a graphical display of what's going on.

Just to clarify, is the parking sensor view on this model the same as the view on the Bolero just a little smaller as the screen is smaller???

The displays, climate control and parking, are identical in form to that on Bolero just, as you say a little bit smaller.

Interested to see what Maxi Dot can do, lots of options in the manual. Will have a mess about soon.

Very impressed with Amundsen+ - so simple.

So the manual definitely gets Maxidot then? Asked about Maxidot at the dealers, they said no options could be fitted as the cars are already built. This car gets better and better!

Yes the manual DOES have Maxi Dot, as I have a Manual on my drive right now, was not expecting it, didn't feel I needed it, but glad its included.

Having said that I would think twice about DSG, as that also gives steering wheel controls, that he manual lacks !

The maxi-dot works compliments the sat nav on the amundsen + very nicely. the maxi dot shows a very simple directional arrow (i.e. straight on, left turn) and how long left in miles on the current road, whilst the amundsen screen shows the 3d representation. very impressed with how they interact together. Maxi dot also shows mp3 information too as well as many other things.

With VCDS the headunit can have the BT enabled which give full phone control and music streaming.

Mine seems to have lost MP3 and or sat nav display, perhaps as I was messing with it showing other detail.... Will have a play later... All its seems to show at the moment is min speed, oil temp, avg speed, mpg etc.

if you hold the top button of the right stalk it will give you a menu MFD, navigation, status (if fuel light on etc), phone (when enabled), radio

Thanks, will try.

I've just filled a 16GB SD card full of music (4mb free), organised (folder structure) by Artists then Album. When first inserted in to Amundsen+ took about 15 - 20 seconds to read structure. Following that initial scan, navigating and playing music is instantaneous; even following turning off ignition and turning on again. Very impressed with the SD performance following reports of slow SD scanning on anything bigger than 8GB on earlier firmware/other Skoda ICE.

Also having been used to a 6 CD MP3 changer (I though that held a lot of music!), I'm enjoying the immediate changeover to different albums (sequential or random), having been used to a CD 'changeover' previousley.

With the SD capability I can't see the need to add MDI later, as a 32GB card will cover my collection (even 16GB covers a gigantic amount of music). Bluetooth addition will be a must though.

Thanks for the input Booble, good description of how your using it. Cheers.

Have you copied the NAV CD to either a SD card or to the head unit at all? From what I can work out the Sat Nav runs off the CD with an option to copy / load it somewhere else.

32GB card user here, full of songs at high bit rate, works fine, quick and sounds good.no need for MDI for me,

Maybe a silly question but if you upload a movie onto an SD card will it play????

Not tried it. But I bet it won't work.

Will it play random tracks off an SD card from all the directories/albums? Will it play Apple format tracks?

Thanks

Steve

It will play random tracks, not sure about apple/iTunes formats, all mine are flac/mp3.

My outlaws Sat Nav works with no SD card in the unit and no CD in there either. The chap at the showroom said the datas stored 'inside' the unit and will be updated at every service. I'm thinking it could be that 'Data Storage Device' thats a no cost option on the Colombus unit, could be wrong tho

From what i know the maps are loaded on to an internal 4Gb memory. These are updated from the SD card but the SD card is over written or wiped once the maps have been copied. Not sure they will be updated every service as these maps from what i have seen are in the region of £199 (ish).
