Coming Home lights

Featured Replies

I can't seem to find the settings to get my headlights to come on when I lock/unlock the car

Its an SE plus....what am i missing

Thanks in advance

I just put my lightswitch to the verticle "auto" position.

I 'm sure my Elegance is the same as your SE plus

Pauper spec SEplus with no auto lights....so no go for me

Alas you need the light sensor from the autolights to make this work... think about it a bit: how is the car supposed to know it is day or night? Without this sensor the lights will always come on even in the day when you unlock!

Johann .... I did not realise the beast was so sophisticated to only pop the lights on in the dark. Previous cars have just put the lights on.

Clearly I still have lots to learn from the great masters on this forum.

Thank you.

Think you can VCDS the car to have them work but without the light sensor they will come on during the day as well. Don't use them myself, the puddle lights work for me and I don't like the xenon's firing on and off all the time.

You can (or Gizmo can!) VCDS them so the fogs come on rather than the xenons-I too was unhappy with them firing up so many extra times.

Had thought about it but decided against tinkering, particularly after having two episodes of intermittent active headlight issues; not responding to changes of direction plus going out of position, causing other drivers to complain (neither of which produced fault codes and no not in tourist mode either) Resetting basic settings has put things back to normal on both occasions.

I think I'm in for a trip up the road for about 4 miles to Shark performance for a bit of VCDS chages

Coming home lights

Cornering fogs

MPH second speed on Maxidot

Towbar coding. I could get the fitter to do it (apparently they only have one machine and my fitter had to arrange a second visit..fair enough but if the car is going on a machine might as well do the lot together)

I can't see anyone local who is active with a VCDS.....but anyone between Nottingham and Mansfield could enjoy a glass or three on me

If I leave my lights in "auto" here in darkest Wales the Bi-Xenons come on and the DRL's go out. A blink of daylight and they go out again - can the day/night sensor be adjusted? I have managed to stop the Sat Nav from going into night mode. Also I have not noticed the Xenons swivelling when I turn the steering wheel. I have ticked the box in the MFD - "Assistants" and "Bend lights" (I think?). I know you have to be travelling at least 10 kph. Do they swivel in both dip and main beam?

Peter

The lights certainly do swivel-at low/town speed the cornering fogs illuminate the side you are turning towards and at open road speeds the main and dip anticipate the path of the car -most clearly seen on unlit open road slight bends when you see the beam ahead turning -only a little in the direction of travel as you steer.

I changed my car to Australian to get the mph display in the maxidot but I like to have several things displayed at the same time, consumption, speed, time and temperature. With the mph it is not possible do so and I ended up changing back. Another change I reversed was increasing the lane change from three blinks to five, it seemed like a good idea at the time until I accidentaly knocked the indicator stalk and could not stop the indicator util it had flashed five times.

This is what you get with mph displayed th_IMG_1582.jpg

I'd like the mph in small text at the bottom where normally its kph.

I fear from your experience this is not possible.

Not good news....bu***r.

Thanks for your advice

There is a nice big dial with the mph on beside the maxidot. Maybe you missed it

I prefer having the outside temp displayed where the km/h was.

you mean the one without sensible markings for30 and 50mph!!!!!

In addition Mrs 33Qs Mini has digital mph and that what she wants. So I rest my Case.

I'm not that far from you - just off Jct 25.

30 is half way between 20 and 40; 50 is similarly at the mid-point between 40 and 60. Like every other :swear: ing analogue speedo in the bl00dy world.

I wonder if people on European VW forums whinge about Golfs not having a "sensible" marking at 50kph?

As noted on this thread, there aren't half some picky people about...

I know I'm picky, pedantic, fastidious etc. I just am.

I will PM you ....many thanks

I know I'm picky, pedantic, fastidious etc. I just am.

That's absolutely fine, most people aren't :giggle:

PS: what does "l/min x 100" mean on the rev counter - because I might be picky, pedantic, fastidious etc as well?

x1000 surely?

PS: what does "l/min x 100" mean on the rev counter - because I might be picky, pedantic, fastidious etc as well?

It means revolutions per minute times 100. A revolution is not a physical thing, or energy or anything so has no specific units. The non-scientific way might be revs/min and since revs have no unit, it is just (nothing)/min. Instead of nothing, you write 1/min because anything times 1 is itself (so if you read 15 on the dial, then 15 times 1/min is 15/min). The x100 thing is because the numbers around the dial are in tens, which you have to multiply by 100 to get the true figure (so reading 15 on the dial means 15x100/min = 1,500/min).

It's a bit messy and there are other ways of doing it, for example 100/min would be cleaner and accurate (but perhaps more confusing). RPM would probably be acceptable in most places too.

Ohh... and there was me thinking it was laughs per minute, the faster you go the funnier it is!!

Blimey! I know what rpm means, most places would be on a rev counter in a car.

Although being an industrial chemist for nearly 40 years, I've never heard of 1/min as a unit. Looking at Wickipedia, I can see where youre explanation came from :giggle:

Surely rpm would be more suitable for a revolution counter, suitable for ordinary, non nuclear scientific drivers :giggle: :giggle:

Skoda must have high expectations for the brain power of their customers - I'm flattered - thank you Skoda.

ps: for the pedants, this must be the ultimate compliment :nerd:
