Amunsden Plus Bluetooth and Microphone install "How to"

Featured Replies

People are getting confused here between the different head units. For a bolero or Columbus you need a box under the seat for Bluetooth.

This thread is about the amunsden plus which others have confirmed has bt built in and just needs a mike and coding

EDIT: and just to be 100% clear, the factory fit for the Columbus/Bolero is under the seat. Obviously for post delivery fit, the box could be anywhere.....

I've just done this today on booble's car and it all works! the only thing is the phone isn't in the MFD I know on the link in the first post says it shouldn't but welsh_kai_boy shows it working? Did that require any more coding?

And Auric the box definitely needs un-ticking to activate.

...........So why can't a Mic and the Coding be done at the Factory. Seems like the dealers can't do it, or don't know how to

Well I'm sure you're right, but it's only the same as my vRS not having cornering fog lights enabled from the factory - it's just another thing they use to differential between models.

But you're right, it does then seem a little steep to be charged to plug in to a computer and tick a couple of boxes.

Reminds me of mortgages where they try to charge £1000 "product fee" to put you on a fixed rate - which again is somebody typing a rate and a period in to a computer screen.... (perhaps that makes the dealer seem good value!!)

Totally agree with you. Why can't dealers tell you what you can have done to the car on it's PDI check, anything the car is capable of doing you should get the option wether you want it turning on. After that, if you change your mind then you should pay

Seems a bit to simple to me but that's life

I reckon most salesman just aren't that knowledgable or interested.

Thanks to Hayden (H17YD_L), a very helpful and knowledgeable chap. I would totally recommend him for those in the Northwest area, thanks buddy - lovely looking Fabia VRS too!

It works well, I just need to order a mic and find someone to help fit it! The MFD integtates to a point, when a caller rings it shows who its from from on the MFD. The phone button simply controls call accept or call disconnect.

Also the bluetooth media streaming is excellent. When I press the media button now I get choice of CD, SD, Aux and now Bluetooth. Really can't see need of MDI now.

A very happy chappy now! Time to order my mic!

Is any one willing to fit for a price?

All working? Glad you found the guide helpful.

I find it crazy that a tool that helps to be legal is disabled and then the literature tells you you need certain items fitted for it to be functional.

Sorry, mine is a parrot I fitted a while ago. Just saying what you did is very clear. I have had my dash apart 3 or 4 times so I'm a season pro

Last time was moving the kit to the middle and sorting a speaker issue

People really need to make sure they don't skip posts. The thread is stereo specific and tells you only about the Amunsden.

If you are gentle is easy to take the car apart and the guide is spot on. Give it a go, it always nice to know how your car is put together and the glove box is just a few torx screws

Cheers mate!

Hope you get the mic fitted and sorted, I'd have go urself follow the instructions and you can't go wrong, I've had the dash and pillars apart when fitting footwell lights in my fabia and when fitting a power source to my amp in the boot. Most things pull off an clip back on easy.

OK so the only features that may allow me to have the phone menu in the MFD is that mine is set to Australian so that I get the digital speedo. All I did was untick the box as explained in the first link in my how to.

Just to be clear there is no under seat module this is how the GSM iii is installed, BT is integrated in this model (as stated in a previous post).

Mines now fully integrated in my maxidot. I have a phone entry in maxidot and can browse phone book etc. We must have initially tried it before phone was paired

Mine has had the digital Speedo added after we set up Bluetooth, so maybe that is a common factor. Though suspect once phone was paired it triggered it.

possible paired phone triggers it?

Yes! Think that's it even on mine if the phones not paired I don't think it's shows 'phone' on the MAXI DOT

Just ordered my mic, I've decided I will have a go (with a mate who's handy at this type of thing), the guide is really clear thanks to Welsh_kai_boy.

Considering the dealer quoted me £300 for a 3rd party (Parrot I presume) BT solution, I will have this enabled and nicely integrated for less than £50 all in.

Can I order a trim tool off e-bay? Are these specific to Skoda? (sorry if its a dumb question)

Cheers

Good luck. Still can't bring myself to even think about dismantling the dash of a brand new car.

Wuss :peek:

ok, just ordered. I will really nervous about doing this, but with taking my time I'm sure it will go back as it should undamaged. which tool in that pack is the most suitable (I feel like a tool asking these questions) for removing the bits required - is the smallest of the long plastic orange pieces?

Look, honestly don't worry about this. As long as you don't use a claw hammer you're be ok.

I installed my kit 18 months ago with no specialist tools.

I used some of the plastic "tape" (the sort that's used to hold cardboard arround while goods) and used that under the fascia to pull the fascia out until i could get the ends of my fingers under.

Then i carefully worked around the edge of the fascia, working the fascia further and further out until it pinged out. Just do it like anything else you would where you're trying to get something apart. Don't just pull on one corner and expect the whole thing to come off - that may crack it. Just work round slowly as i said.

On the pillar, i forget what i used. It would have been just my fingers or a plastic "fish slice" from the kitchen.

Regarding the trim tools, it's difficult to say. You want the widest you can get in the "gap". This is probably the second from right in the pic, but you may need to use another to raise the trim slightly before you can get that one in.

Just take your time, and pay attention as you go. If you start to think you're marking the trim, stop and try a different tool.

Once you've done it, you'll wonder why you worried about it!!

Good luck

oh and enjoy the new car

http://www.vwauditec.co.uk/

just been to vwaudi specialist explained all about bluetooth on skoda blackline, they activated bluetooth no problems,

they have ordered the mic and are installing it next week as they are very busy ,great cant wait

cost all in £110 which i am more than happy with as i would be reluctant to try this myself . this company are in chelmsford, essex. as per the link

cheers sdenny, I appreciate your advice. now just need to order a fish slice!

loving the car, I've had it well over a week now and its a cracking motor.

I used a plastic fish slice to take the centre console out in the focus. You can use anything Aslong as its soft and a bit bendy.

Just taken my new Blackline to a firm with VCDS but they could not activate Bluetooth.

They said it gave a message of "no communication". The dealer has already tried to install a third party Bluetooth before I found out about

the possibility of Bluetooth using VCDS. They were unsuccessful in getting the 3rd party Bluetooth installed so wondering if I have a technical problem

with the Amundsen itself and it is not communicating?

This is all turning into a bit of a nightmare!

Dealer has been very helpful but does admit they can't use VW type software as it will invalidate the warranty!

Do they have the current version of VCDS? Make sure they are looking under navigation not phone.
